According to the book, one of the reasons why the Dwarves needed Bilbo is because there are 13 Dwarves and that is an unlucky number. Bilbo makes things 14. The reason why Gandalf has a friendship with The Eagles is because he saved the Alpha Eagle from an arrow. They are in debt ever since. Bilbo’s mother was more adventurous than his father. @user-lb9xw4xf2q18 күн бұрын
I agree it has great elements to it, but I fear the bad outweighs the good, and there is evidence of its troubled production in it - an easy example is to point out how it established a framing device of old Bilbo telling this story to Frodo, but neither appear again outside of the opening of the first movie, which is such an easy thing to complete that the fact they didn't have them back for the end of the third movie at least to wrap things up, shows how much of a mess things were. Plus, the second movie has its climax cut off and inserted into the beginning of the third movie because they knew Smaug was the only strong selling point they had, so couldn't convince everyone to watch some Five Armies most wouldn't know or care about if they weren't baited by the dragon action. But then, they make Smaug's death a joke with Bard using his son as a bow, and Smaug's dead body landing on the Mayor like a comedy shot, leaving discount discount discount Wormtongue to take the Mayor's role from the book. Also, most of it felt like it lacked passion, which makes sense when knowing that Warner Bros. practically forced Peter Jackson to make them three movies in a bid to repeat NewLineCinema's past success. And that's only half of it. That all said, I won't begrudge you for enjoying it.

For me, this is the best performance Andy Serkis gives as Gollum in his career. Not only because the technology finally became advanced enough that the VFX team could accurately capture Andy’s performance with the face camera and tracking dots on his face (which didn’t exist when they filmed LOTR) but he’s playing Gollum who isn’t yet effected by the events and encounters with people he’s had in the LOTR trilogy. He hasn’t had a conversation with a single living thing in almost 500 years, so this is both threatening and exciting for him.
@--mr4yoАй бұрын
I wasn't a fan. At this point in the timeline, Bilbo (and therefore the reader/viewer) knows very little about Gollum. Before he is "Smeagol versus Gollum" in LotR, he is JUST Gollum in The Hobbit. He is creepy. He he slimy. He is chilling. Serkis fails to capture Gollum's menace, which is pivotal to his presentation in The Hobbit, instead turning him into a comedy act. He strayed too far from the source material. He's brilliant in LotR though.
@earth2sakaАй бұрын
@@--mr4yo Serkis simply cannot fail at capturing Gollum's menace. He is a top notch actor. This is how he was directed by Jackson so this is what he did. Jackson fell into the fanservice trap. He saw that people loved Gollum so he gave them Gollum. Everyone is at fault here. The director, the people who even bought Gollum pillows and sheets. Everyone created this monster. The Hobbit WAS a children's book that Tolkien told to his children AND it is written from Bilbo's perspective (and His adventure was kind of fun). But The Lord of the Rings was finished when Tolkien's children were grown, and was written by Frodo whose adventure WAS much more serious. You saw the aftermath of Balin taking back Moria, with Ori and Balin in the tomb. Also Azog was actually killed in that battle, the Dwarves pushed them back. The Battle of Azanulbizar happened because Azog beheaded and mutilated Thrór, Thráin II rallied not only an army of Durin's folk but all the dwarves of Middle Earth and for 6 years they destroyed Orc strongholds in the Misty Mountains fighting all the way to the Eastern Gate of Moria. Outnumbered the Dwarves fought hard again and again until Nain arrived with Dwarves of the Iron Hills and they stormed forward driving the orcs to the gate and Nain called out Azog only to be killed by the orc. Dain Ironfoot which you saw briefly, sprang forward beheading Azog at the tender age of 32. Azog's head was put on a pike. Dain looked in the Eastern Gate of Moria and saw Durin's Bane, the Balrog of Moria. The houses divided not seizing Moria and the Dwarves of Durin moved to the Southern Blue Mountains to wait to take back Erebor and Khazad-dum.

After recently having re-watched the movies for the first time, I must admit there is much more in them that I appreciate now then I did 10years ago. And yes, Martin Freeman as Bilbo, and his relationship to everyone, makes the movie. I would have wished that the movies had kept the arc about the son of the White Orc wishing to avenge the death of his father, instead of keeping the White Orc alive but having him loose a hand...

Hobbits in general are known for not to be seen easy, if not moving in shadows or else they're hard to spot at all.

I love the fact that the entire scene with the trolls doesn't really need to be in the movie, but in the books it was one of, if not the first page (except for the map at the front), to have illustrated pages, so it's highly memorable for all the readers of the book.

Tolkien began writing "The Hobbit" in 1930, as a way to entertsin his four Children, but it wasn't specifically written for Children...But, rather came from his interest in Mythology and Legend.

The eagles are a proud kingdom, like the elves, and would not consent to be horses for dwarves. They do favors for Gandalf because he and their king are great friends. In the book, we get to see them speak. I think Jackson tried to avoid talking animals because sometimes in movies it feels a little silly.

I love the making of for the hobbit and the lord of the rings. That is why I bought the Blu-ray collectors editions of both. Hours and hours of how these epic tales were brought to the big screen. Also, the playback is mirrored, everything is flipped to opposite side. Plus any words on the screen are backwards like a mirror. I'm not used to seeing that on this channel. Editing error? Love the nails Achara. Hope you ladies have a happy new year. Love the reaction vids.

So much fun to watch with you two! One small (but I think lovely) tie-in to the LOTR movies (someone else will likely mention this): in Fellowship, when older Bilbo leaves the Shire (after his 111th birthday), Gandalf waits for Frodo in Bilbo's house. He's lost in thought, muttering. One of the things he mutters is "riddles in the dark..." And now you know why he was musing on that topic at that moment... (also, the chapter in the Hobbit book where Bilbo finds the ring is called "Riddles in the Dark") Looking forward to the next episode!

1:41:49 Beard Care There are some things a guy can (and should) do with his beard: 1. Consider an "Amish" or "Abraham Lincoln" beard by shaving off the moustache and the area just underneath the mouth. You'll be removing the hair from the places most likely to collect food. It also makes it easier to wipe your mouth. Another benefit of an Amish-style beard is that it still looks good when you're letting the beard grow out. The clean-cut look around the mouth and along the jawline balances the wild and unkempt look of the beard. 2. Shampoo your beard REGULARLY. Get a scrub brush designed for beards like the Toiletries silicone beard scrubber. 3. Use a brush to detangle it. Reach under your beard and lift it up. Start combing it down a little at a time to avoid tangles. NEVER start brushing from the top of your beard. You'll just make the tangles worse. 4. Check your beard oil, as it can go rancid. 5. Clean your beard brush regularly. Oils can get on it and go rancid. 6. To save money, I pour a little argan oil and fractionated coconut oil into my palm, and use that to oil my beard. It has a MUCH milder odor than most beard oils.

some fun noncanon recontextualizaton: in dnd, the creation myths of halflings (hobbits) involves that they were created last, and their patron diety saw they were the meakest least aggressive humanoids and would be preyed upon by other peoples, so she literally divinely gave them passive magic abilities of hiding, running through larger creature's legs, being hard to frighten, and luck. they were so adorbziez that a god made them magically super hard to notice or pick on. so in dnd, like lotr, halflings are surprisingly OP. not canon to lotr but real cool to see how dnd interprets what's happening in certain hobbit scenes.

Lowkey, even though these movies are not as great as the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, I do think the Hobbit trilogy does have some really great moments, too, at least not in its entirety. Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins was such perfect casting as he truly embodies the timid, polite but brave heart of Bilbo Baggins. The scene where we are introduced to all the Dwarf while Bilbo is trying to have dinner is one of my favourite scenes just for how fun and entertaining it is to watch. Honestly, I can totally relate to Bilbo's anxiety during the scene even if Dwarfs are nice enough to clean up after themselves for him.

To my humble opinion. I think this is a PERFECT rendition of "Page to Theater" of any character I have ever seen. Whenever I read the book as a kid and teenager. I saw Bilbo EXACTLY like the one on the screen before you. And these movies were entertaining. But go a little off the rails in every other way. Lol. But I enjoyed them.

At 1:20:32 Acharra marvels that such a long narration can spawn out of a short kids book; the early '70s Penguin paperback edition of The Hobbit, the first one I read, is nearly 300 pages. There's a lot to come in that book yet, and this movie trilogy takes all the time needed to stop in crucial moments or elements. The Eagles are creatures of Manwë, king of the Valar and implicit king of Arda. Their interventions might be seen as the will of Valinor tipping the scales when it's needed. BTW, love your reactions, you go in up to the elbow 💐

The three movies have tons of non-canon filler, but by far this one had the least, it was actually pretty faithful. The meeting of the wise in Rivendell is not recounted in dialog in the book but it’s alluded to (as the Council of White Wizards). Scenes involving Bilbo are pretty faithful - the book is 95% limited omniscient point of view looking over Bilbo’s shoulder. If there were a cut of the movies with only the Bilbo scenes, it would be pretty faithful. The non-Bilbo scenes are almost entirely the added filler.
@Rocket1377Ай бұрын
There are fan edits that cut out all the non-canon stuff, turning the whole trilogy into a single two hour movie.
@thelastone7123Ай бұрын
I'd like to imagine thats what happens when its not retold by bilbo. I mean the trip of gandalf to the dol goldur where he discovered sauron really happened in the books but it just happened way before the hobbit. In the battle of the five armies bilbo was knocked out but still of course the fighting would continue without him. There are things I wished that didn't happen like the love triangle or the dwarves facing smaug in erebor but overall a lot things can be canon.
