The Sith Empires of old were built on the back of billions of slaves while the sith lords were chilling and plotting and killing etc... You can look out for The Old Republic stuff if you want to know more. The Zygerria arc is definitely one of my favorite arcs of the CW, and its just after the Umbara arc which was one of the best too.

"Zycherian scum." One of the most incredibly savage lines from Anakin's inner Darth Vader. He is coming. We don't know how or when, but he is coming.

Since the dark side is strengthened by fear, anger, sadness, and other negative emotions as you said, slavery makes the Sith stronger in a force sense. But it also has just been a mainstay of Sith Empires of old for practical as well as ideological reasons: slavery means free labor - but it also utilizes the concept of forcing the weak to submit to the will of the strong by force. This naturally appeals to the Sith, therefore it goes hand in hand.

Fun fact #1: this arc is based on a tie-in comicbook miniseries titled "Slaves of the Republic" that was first published from 2008-2009, written by Henry Gilroy, who also wrote the episodes themselves. This first episode combined the first two issues of the comic: in the first issue, D'narr's role was filled in by a Besalisk (same species as General Krell and Dex from AOTC) Separatist commander, and the Zygerian's involvement was only revealed in the second issue, when Anakin and co cornered some gangsters to get information on where the colonists disappeared to. By replacing the Besalisk, they not only avoided having two villains of the same species in a row, but also allowed them to condence the plot, by having the Zygerian involvement present from the start. #2: A couple other differences: Ahsoka was much younger in the comics, since it took place shorty after her introduction. The comic also marked the first appearance of Clone Trooper Waxer, who was killed in the last episode's friendly fire scene, and was replaced by Boil in this episode. Waxer and Boil were the clones who helped the Twi'lek little girl in "Innocents of Ryloth". #3 The Zygerians were also rather different, they all had red hair, and boney spikes on their faces. This new design as a "coyote-people" was show runner Dave Filoni's idea, who had designed a character like this for the backstory he came-up for Ahsoka and Plo Koon. The backstory was that when Ahsoka's people realised she was Force-sensitive, they contacted the Jedi, and a coyote like creature came, claiming that she was a Jedi and came for the child. Since she looked majestic, the people believed her, and gave her Ahsoka. Then Plo Koon showed up looking like a weird bug, and turned out, the majestic coyote was a bounty hunter/slaver, and Plo had to rescue Ahsoka from her. #4 The "potato birds" are the same species as the ones that were camped outside of the Youngling's hideout in the "Padawan Lost" and "Wookie Hunt" episodes of Season 3. They are called Convors, and this specific subtype is imaginatively named "Kiros bird".

This is a dark arc. It might be the darkest one to date and I’l was pleasantly surprised at its maturity.

The philosophy of the dark side and sith is based around the strong dominating the weak and the weak offering unquestioning obedience. The only way to be free is through strength and power. Thus slavery is perfectly aligned with sith philosophy, though they would sometimes accept slave revolts on an individual or larger scale if the slaves truly demonstrated strength and power that exceeded those of their masters.

In times of crisis the Sith would even recruit from slave populations if they showed some ability with the Force. The Sith Inquisitor from SWTOR was an example of this. Sometimes when a slave revolt would occur, they'd allow it to endure as long as it benefited them in some way, such as allowing them to test a new bioweapon.

The film's don't really go into the specifics of slavery. The gist of it is that slavery is banned within the Republic itself, but the Republic authorities don't care about what goes on outside it's borders, thus slavery thrives in places like Tatooine which is controlled by the Hutts. Since Kiros was a Republic colony, the enslavement of it's people did warrant Republic interference. This incident worried the Jedi, because it showed not only how vulnerable the smaller Republic settlements are, but also that their enemies no longer feared retalliation against atrocities like it.

I forgot this arc was back to back with Umbara! Another very dark arc, but well executed. It looks like a lot of the fun facts were already taken care of. The only thing I would point out is the first appearance of the droideka sharpshooter, one of the very rare droideka variants. They only show up in this episode and an episode from what would have been season 7 I believe, but was unfinished before the show was cancelled originally back in 2013. We also got to see the return of sassy Obi-Wan, a fan favorite character. I'm sure I've missed some stuff, this arc is one I'm a little fuzzy on the details of. But, I'm looking forward to the next episode!

Why slavery happens is kinda vague. It's kinda vaguely explained in the book, Master and Apprentice, that the Jedi are kinda iffy on ending slavery on every planet since some species have cultures and religions that rely on slavery and a hive mind and imposing their morality on them would cause a lot of strife and war and the erasure of a culture. In the prequels it seems like Slavery is illegal on the Core Worlds like Coruscant, but planets like Tatooine in the Outer Rim are kinda like the wild west in space and can do whatever they want.

Yoda’s comment in the end has two meanings, in the extended lore slavery was used by the sith to build an empire the 2nd meaning is that to Jedi slavery is so evil that only a sith would use it

The Sith have a word relationship with slavery. The old Sith empires back before the rule of two used it, for practical and ideological reasons, as someone else already pointed out, but because of their beliefs in strength and power, there was a strange kind of mobility among slaves. If they distinguished themselves, they might be raised to serve the empire in other ways, from joining the military as soldiers or officers to becoming Sith apprentices themselves if they were force sensitive.

Slavery has existed in the Star Wars galaxy for eons, but the Sith elevated it to new heights. Unlike the Hutts ane other crime lords where you could at least buy your way out, slavery in the Sith Empire was an institution. Once conquered, you and your family were doimed to be slaves for life, as well as any future generations. The only thing that could save your family from slavery was if someone turned out to be Force sensitive. If a child could complete.their training as a Sith this would elevate the status of their whole family.

Slavery instead of Skeletons for Halloween, hmm? It is interesting to see the Star Wars universe deal with the subject of slavery. Even this close to the fall of the Jedi Order, it is nice to see that there is still stiff opposition to the practice.
@DovahFett
@DovahFett Жыл бұрын
There always has been stiff opposition to it. Even the Empire officially outlawed slavery (while practicing it in secret) because they knew that acknowledging its usage would be a political nightmare that not even Palpatine wanted to deal with. They just called them "prisoners" instead of slaves.

Yoda might want to time his speech a little more carefully "slavery a great tool it is...{rest of the quote}" Man is going to be taken out of context like they did to that mandalorian guy when debating occupying mandalor
