This pollution issue, lack of enough manpower for cleaning and no clearly displayed signs against littering, should be addressed from highest political level from your President down to Provincial Vice Governors and City Vice Mayors. To wake them up, groups need to be formed on social media and lobbying done in the news. Leaders whom fail to handle pollution should not be reelected. It should be crystal clear for the public that littering is prohibited. It will take time to change the mindset, but it will happen. Try to get some expats helping out cleaning the beaches in Dumagete. Better to be on the beach cleaning and move than drinking beer in a bar. Great job by all of you cleaning!
@Life_WithShay

I very much agree Heinrich! We have to start to bring awareness to everyone what it cost us to not clean our streets, promenades, and beaches. Then, the politicians have to be involved so that we can implement policy and create a paid workforce to maintain these special places, but also even the local streets. This will only help the politicians as well, so it can be a win - win.

Take care of our environment. Tiny ladies with huge hearts . Great filming, great production it’s working give it time keep the heart open smiles coming. Shay, Ann and everyone that participanted in the cleanup - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! It is sad that people don't appeciate the natural beauty of our world and just throw their trash every where. I wish I was there to help. Here in parts of the USA we have something called "Adopt a Highway" where sections of roads and other areas where companies or resturants sign up to volunteer to clean up areas. It almost becomes a competition on what group can clean up better. Maybe you can talk to the bars, resturants and hotels along the boardwalk to volunteer to help clean up the beach and boardwalk area once a week. Signs can be posted along the boardwalk that says this area kept clean by the name of the company or resturant which also gives them advertisement. Great job and again Thank you!

One day perhaps your example will inspire others to take a little pride and help. Your spirit and bulldog tenacity is so beautiful to witness 👍👍👍 unfortunately in the USA back in the 60s and 70s to get people to finally stop throwing garbage down the local government had to start issuing small fines to the citizens caught doing this! But finally with the same type of bulldog tenacity that you have people here in the USA also have, and did not give up! So now we teach our children almost from birth not to litter, and to leave the land in better shape than you left it! But it was a long, long road to get to this point! Very interesting. I remember when I was in Japan. While visiting some of their neighborhoods, I watched many cleaning the area around their homes and the street and sidewalk as well. As time went I, I realized that it is part of their culture to do this. Everywhere I went, it was always clean. It was the same in some parts of Mexico. Especially in the smaller towns. This seems to be a world wide issue and you are right, we need to take more pride in our surroundings. Thank you for what you and your family does.

Hello Shay, I'm sure there are plenty of people watching and taking notice silently as they pass you and your daughters by as you pick up debris along the boardwalk and the actual waterfront. It all comes down to mindset and pride which needs to be promoted throughout the community. This is something bigger as a collective in making people feel as though they are contributing to the community and should also be something that needs to grow intrinsically in doing the right thing so as to sustain the benefit of keeping the community cleaner. This can only be accomplished through education and should be constantly promoted throughout the business community, schools, and universities, by the leaders within the community. They are the only ones that can truly change the mindset of the locals to take ownership of the community and show some level of pride. You would think the universities would get involved in the community and help promote what you are doing and make people think about their personal actions. People should also understand the long-term effects and should feel some level of shame and not just leave trash on the benches as if they have no responsibility to the community or themselves.

Seeing how people don't care for their homeland (I see it everywhere to a greater or lesser degree) can be deflating... But... I always say "Lead by example..." Hopefully others will follow, sooner or later...Certainly your kids are getting a good lesson... It may take some tough legal repercussions for NOT following the rules in the case of trash... In Minnesota they put a fine of $500 for littering...That got people's attention... Litter was a problem on the roads and in many of the more popular 14000 lakes in the state... Not so much after the fines were put in place (still lots of road kill though, more animals than people upstate on the border of Canada where I grew up!)... Also, getting some media attention might help generate some support for less trashing and more help to clean it up...Social platforms too maybe? Even the local government could get involved...Maybe some of the repercussions for breaking the law might be cleaning the beaches up... Anyway, hang in there... Best of luck...Don't give up...Having a nicer environment for yourself and your kids is worth it... Peace... 🙏🙏🙏 👍😎👍

Wow, here’s hoping that change can come to the Philippines. I have noticed in the Philippines that part of the culture there is to just throw your garbage on the ground where you finish the drink or food. The whole culture of shame has to be learned so that if someone else see you doing it they can say something to that person that it’s not ok. Your hard work is appreciated but it must feel overwhelming that the work never gets less in time because people have no pride in keeping a place beautiful

I have been living off my motorcycle for the last 6 months in Mindanoa. Anything with public access is polluted. Private resorts are clean. When you see blogger vids talking about the beauty of the Philippines, it is really a vid of an attraction or resort. But vast reality is the people here pollute their own environment.

I have seen your approach work on a smaller scale. My youngest son played on a inner city competitive soccer team. The team didn't charge a fee so they played on public areas. We would clean the field before each practise, a safety issue. The first time was about 45 minutes to pickup the trash and broken glass. Ten weeks later it took 5 minutes. Good Luck on your project!

I was raised in a household where service to the community and others was of the upmost importance, whether it is seen, understood or even joined by others is secondary to making the effort to contribute to another humans quality of life. When we help another, we help ourselves. Keep making Duma beautiful... and the beaches cleaner as well.

Hi Shay and Co, "In order to write about life first you must live it." Another Hemingway quote. Sadly, I have encountered similar problem in an other South Asian country a few years back. Local authorities only started “doing something about it” after a major accident created by pollution had costed the government $ millions. Then municipalities had to put in place trash collectors teams. They financed it by imposing heavy fines for perpetrators. It was extremely unpopular, but it had to work. I am afraid, Shay, that nothing will be started unless a comparable situation arises. It is a real shame that passers bye didn’t feel they should help you. Let’s hope that your campaign attracts local authorities’ attention, and induce your compatriots into participating, or being ashamed. Woefully, it seems to be the only way.
@Life_WithShay
@Life_WithShay Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Guy for your thoughtful comments! I am hoping that we will start a movement that will lead to our local government starting a job campaign and pay people who need jobs to keep our cities and communities clean. What better way to bring in tourism? If we keep all our places clean, and tourists appreciate that and come more and more, the jobs program will be paid for many times over. I hope people don't have to be fined, but that might be a part of the solution if people can't resist polluting. It affects us all.

@@Life_WithShay Thank you Shay, this is all so true. And, as you said, Dumaguete municipality has spent already a lot of money transforming the seafront, building the boulevard and creating this extraordinary welcoming touristic area, now famous all over the world, thanks also to renowned KZbin vloggers like you! It is beyond belief that they have not already organised a serious maintenance team to keep the place tidy and maintain their investment. If i was a civil servant there, I would be ashamed to see that such important and common sense “green issue” had to be taken over by a small dedicated and concerned local family, by four young women who felt compelled to act to work so hard freely to preserve their own neighbourhood themselves.
