Gday from Australia!!:):) U guys r true proffesionals,it is clear 2 c u love wat u do and do it well!! U r all proficient and masterful Technicians of the Art and I like the Realism that the Mills KK offers thru its break-down of Technique,real world applicability and ability to answer almost all "questions" asked of it on the "street" One movement yields many possibilities which are figured out as the Response to the Threat unfolds in real-time during an Encounter.Here in Australia we only have a small handful of Kenpo Karate schools which are mostly either Master Jeff Speakmans 5.0 version of Kenpo or a couple of unrecognized off-shoots of EPAK.Here specifically in Perth,which is the Western end of the Sea-board of Australia,we have only 1 school of Kenpo Karate which is founded and run by a gentleman by the name of Sam Purcell,who is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Kenpo,namedly in the Original Ed Parker Kenpo Karate(EPAK) system from the EKKA(European Kenpo Karate Association) which I believe to be 1 of the very 1st Associations the Ed Parker gave his blessing to open to disseminate his system Internationally.Sam Purcell was from Dublin,Ireland where his Dojo was and got up 2 5th Degree which I think is an Associate Professor from his Sensei who was a Direct Student of Ed Parker.So the system we r learning here is very much a direct translation of the original EPAK system that is not too diluted oe too far removed from the Original Source!! I have been away from learning Kenpo for many,many yrs but am going back to it under Sam Purcells tutelage in the New Year so Im very excited.I love watching your vids as u make me remember y I love training in Kenpo in my teens and now in my later 30s' im going back to it as a older and wiser man who sees Kenpos true genius and power that I missed as a youngster!! I am getting into High Level CPP/Bodyguarding work and opening my own Security Company so this part of my life requires an effective,go anywhere and solve any problem art which undoubtedly is Kepo Karate.I will be travelling to the USA as part of Some Studying in the Future and would love 2 come and hang out with u guys and train with u and get to know u as u r all very good and I could learn a lot from.Cheerz:)

3 questions 1- does someone there have a loogie stuck in their throat, sounds like he's trying really hard to cough/spit something out 2- I notice a lot of slapping trying to remove dandruff from each other, have you tried head & shoulders? it works wonders. 3- why do you turn around in a circle in between movements...? is this also including salsa moves?

Great skill. Only problem I have with these drills is that the perpetrator is nearly always throwing a single strike, and holding position afterwards, which facilitates a space for the martial artist to drill multiple strikes. Real world situation-people don't stay in place, and they will retract their punches and swing multiple times very, very quickly; You won't get in all these strikes......... but then again, hopefully the first one takes care of them?
@zachfetterman50509 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Jones Self defense techniques are meant to teach principles. Its said that you should never have to do a complete technique on the street or else you are doing it wrong. In reality, the first one or two strikes is enough to end the conflict. Oh and trust me, as fast as these guys are moving, anyone on the street throwing multiple swings will seem really slow to them. There are also several techniques that do have combo attacks, just not shown here.
@1983gladstone9 жыл бұрын
+Zach Fetterman I took KK for 3 years I know the concepts, my argument remains: Train self defense how fights unfold then i.e don't have your partner hold his strike out, nobody ever gives you that on the street "Oh trust me." -respectfully...
@Liquidcadmus6 жыл бұрын
as master loogie demonstrates here, you first spit into the attackers eyes, then with the esoteric hand gestures and dancing footwork you induce them into a trance, after that just slap away and you've dominated your attacker!

Great self defense work! Interesting combinations. I noticed you guys don't appear to use waist rotation when you deliver your strikes. Was that increased speed to make the video look better or is waist rotation not part of your system's teachings? Really great stuff, looks like a lot of fun. I like how Kenpo always follows up the defense with a multitude of strikes and counters. Again, lots of fun.

To all thise doubting thomas's that keep saying the attacker just stands there after throwing a punch. its easy to say what you think what is happening watching from the armchair. The bottom line is Kenpo is designed to overwhelm the fist attack so that the attacker cannot THROW a barrage of puches and kick your ass. If the attacker is able to throw multiple attacks then something went wrong. aslo whats difficult to see is specific body positioning that is stuffing, pushing, blocking or pinning; orherwise creating a barrier to reduce the chance of a couterstrike by standing real close, "hugging" and therefore keeping your attackers movements stationary or neutral. Go to a reputable Kenpo school and try to punch on a proficient student not some purple belt. Not to say you wont get hit. I dont care how good you think you are even Bruce Lee ate a couple. Train smart, train hard, win easy
@Liquidcadmus6 жыл бұрын
actually kenpo is designed by Ed Parker (the L Ron Hubbard of martial arts) to fool the naive and ignorant minds of americans in the 60's and 70's by using fast flashy movements that look kinda cool and esoteric (but actually totally useless) and doing silly poses and hand gestures and calling "techniques" and combinations with weird names taken out of cheap kung fu movies, stuff like "flying dragon devastation" , hammers of destruction", blabla (come on, what kind of glue was ed smoking?)

Eyes ear throat liver groin knees destroy these as fast as possible. I love Kenpo but our students must resist and fight back. We only use 4 body weapons, fists elbows knees kicks. 50% power or more if there's no effect on the opponent. No open air kata, always hit something. Chaos is always present in real fighting. Workouts alone should be hitting as hard as possible with alot of aggressive power. CHAOS

Speed is an illusion of power, to much speed will nullify your power principle. Remember the Kenpo motto accuracy,power,speed, you need a balance that is why I put them in that order. Accuracy to hit the target, power to make them hold and react to your strike to set up your next one. And last comes speed, I hate that word because Kenpo people get into doing to much speed and lose the power behind their strikes. It's like my instructor Mr Planas say's just walk up to a heavy bag and hit it good and hard 3 times and think how long that took and now your gonna try to throw twice as many strikes with your kenpo. Good hard hits make kenpo work, pain and the ability to make your opponent hold were it hurts. Your partner needs to react to the strikes and not just stand in one place like a statue I have some good videos that show this check them out. TCB.
@zachfetterman50509 жыл бұрын
+Rich Coppens (RCKenpo) Speed is an illusion of power? Power is made up of two things. (f=ma). Force is mass and acceleration. Two ways to increase your power, increase your speed and put more mass behind the strike. And at the same time, limited any wasted movement and increase efficiency. Just because someone is moving fast, doesn't mean they aren't putting power behind the strike. There are little things you might not be noticing. If you don't think one can have speed and power, look up Mr. Mills' videos and see for yourself.

Find a guy with solid abs, punch him in the gut, now take that same guy and have an open hand and place a slap in the proper spot and see which hurts his nerves in the abdomen more, a lot of open hand strikes in kenpo karate attack the nerves so it'll be effective against even a more muscular opponent, there's a time and place for fists and a time and place for open hand strikes
@Liquidcadmus6 жыл бұрын
The only time for slaps is at patty cake or when a pimp slaps one of his women. a slap to the abdomen would never do more damage than a powerful punch, at most it would irritate the skin a little.
