If it helps, try pausing the video at intervals between 1:00 and 1:25 to see the knot tied slowly from a first-person perspective.

The final result is usually determined by how you hold the tie at the beginning. When you start out, try to make the length of the wide-end about one-third of the total length of the tie, and make the thin-end about two-thirds of the length of the tie (1:00). For most ties, this will give you the right proportions to finish up with a nice chunky knot (1:20). Hope this helps.

I think this is the way I normally do it but while it is around my neck. I just watched the instructional videos on how to do the proper half windsor and full windsor... but I will keep this additional way in mind, too. Thank you. (Now I know 4 ways to tie a tie.) :)

I have to wear a tie occasionally for my work. I don't ever leave the house without a half or full Windsor knot. I pride myself on looking dapper and well presented. At the beginning, when you're holding the tie, try to ensure the length of the wide end is about one third of the total length (1:00). That way, when you wrap the thin end of the tie around your hand (1:04), there should be enough of the length left over to make a thicker knot (1:21). Ties come in all sorts of sizes and proportions, so this is only a very general guide. For most ties, I find the one-third (wide) to two-thirds (thin) rule works. Hope this helps.
