I was at this performance, they told us to not make to much noise cause it was on tv and they wanted the band to play without interruption cause it was on tv so everyone could watch it and hear chinos vocals , they told us to cheer at the end of the song only

Yea what helps them hold up from other rock and metal bands from the time what that they were just straight up no gimmicks. Not that there weren’t other bands like that at the time (Tool, SOAD, Mastodon, Gojira) but Deftones really did have a true sound that was all their own.

What I love about this performance is the actual difficulty hitting those notes on the chorus and Chino hits them for the most part. The thing with their music is it is all pretty hard to sing live vocally. Deftones forever!!!

Abr Cunningham from deftones is one of the best examples of lies being more. I grew up on metal, and mathcore, and used to think that showing off and being overly technical was a sign of how good you are, until i heard this song. His little nuances on the snare, with those little rolls and skip beats that bounce between the high hat and snare. I love how on white pony they used a different snare drum for every song
