Chino is a self admitted addict and heavy drinker. Judging by his music and lyrical content that's not exactly surprising. Got to see them live for the first time in 1998 I Philly. Absolutely magical!

Sheldon Benton Exactly. The strength of the songs and passion in the performances far outweigh the notes a front man can hit. This is one of the many reasons Deftones are so widely respected in the post hardcore community among both fans and bands alike.

for me one of the main reasons i love his voice so much is the contrast between the whispering then a burst of murmered screaming. if he stopped deftones would loose alot of thier unique sound.

Between 2003 and present, Chino packed on a substantial amount of weight. And unfortunately it is not in a rocker's image to maintain physical fitness. But as mentioned by others, Chino's health directly affects his abilities to sing. On the album version he actually sings the word "earth". In all the live versions he screams it.

@BLACKSUNR1SE I'm not looking to pick a stupid youtube tiff, but personally I feel this performance is Deftones in the most pure form. If anything, the studio versions are so clean you lose the real raw essence of the band, which is really rough and violent; it's not for everyone but I've seen them live many times and it might be shocking at first because it doesn't sound like the CD, but I actually think it's suits the sound better. in the end its my opinion and I'm throwing it out there

SNW is probs one of there best effots coz it covers so many different area's Deftones are the the best :)

I honestly think because Deftones cover so much ground that their fan base is really broad...you have your korn pantera fans that like the straight foward metal material...(what little of it they do have) than you have the hardcore fans that like their experimental dreamy sonic washes that seperate them from every other Numetal group that they got lumped with in the 90's. thats why I liked SNW I think it was a big fuck you to the lesser of their fan base.
