I remember back in like 95 or 96 I saw the Deftones in the small little club with lots of pool tables. i actually met Chi and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. He was talking to me as he was tuning and getting his gear going for their show. I didn't want to take any more of his time as I knew he was busy but he was all like "hang out and talk man" and I did. I remember him asking me if I was going to see the Pantera tour they were about to do and I was like hell yeah. He signed a shirt I bought and drew a picture on it. To this day I am still trying to find that shirt and hope its somewhere in boxes of stuff. I miss him.

+James Weil Deftones were the first band i ever saw live, as they opened up the White Zombie/ Pantera tour in 96, the one you mentioned. I was not a big of fan of them as I am now. I remember vividly that Chino jumped into the crowd to body surf, and lost his sneaker. I can still hear him say "Find the guy who took my shoe and beat him!"

+nj3478 HAHAHA! It's hilarious that you mention the thing about crowdsurfing and Chino losing his shoe....that used to happen almost every single show. It used to piss Chino off so much! I remember him being like, "It's cool that they get excited and all, but why go after my shoes? Leave my fucking shoes alone!". Stolen shoes is one of the main reasons Chino no longer does his leap into the crowd like he used to. And we all know(well, those of us who were at least teenagers in the 90's) that Chino loved his crowdsurfing! One love for Chi! We love and miss you, brother!

😢😥 I'm still impacted from his death. Chi was a bright soul that was taken from us far to soon. He was a kind and compassionate person to everyone especially his fans. Him and my friend share the same birthday. When we got to meet him at a show my friend mentioned it was his birthday and all he wanted was to see the Deftones live. Chi went and brought back 2 beers and had a drink to celebrate both their birthdays. I bought the second round for both of them. I wish chi was still with us. It breaks my heart cause he was such a good person. My friend Ryan who shared the same birthday as chi was devastated. That really was hard on him cause it was everything to him that they had a few drinks together and just chilled. I know he's in a better place. A soul as bright as his will never be extinguished.

Warner removing the original makes me worry they have the rights to all the music from the Eros era and will not let it go. They see it as theirs and an income. The band stated long ago that Eros was a desperate move, an experimental album for a band who didn't know what they wanted to do and after the stress of Chi's death, they shelved it because they thought it would end their careers. Deftones have an excellent relationship with Warner's, always have, so I wouldn't waste your brain power trying to manifest negativity. DWW x

Kyle James-Patrick What the hell are you talking about? Desperate after Chi's accident? The album was made WITH Chi. They stopped making it because of Chi's accident. Get your facts straight. Diamond Eyes was created afterwards and not out of desperation. They made it to not all fall under depression and let the band die off. They wanted to get back into making music for Chi and make something positive because Eros was (is) pretty dark according to Chino. They loved Diamond Eyes. Eros was shelves in hopes of Chi one day being able to fully wake up and recover to play with them and tour. Unfortunately it's not possible anymore. Chino has said that they MIGHT release it after the next album. So maybe in a few years. They need a break, then create an album and tour. Afterwards we could see Eros. And Chino is in Crosses too so that could add time if he decided to record more with them and tour.

I’m still so pissed Deftones won’t release this album. Like if I was Chi I would want my last work I put my heart and soul into to be released so I could live on through that as a goodbye. But no they just bury it, they say out of respect but I find it insanely disrespectful. They buried the album and immediately worked on a new one with a new guy like nothing happened, I get that it was to probably cope and stay busy. But come the fuck on, it’s been how many years now? Matthew, i hope the day finds you well, i am curious of two things, first why you think deftones are over rated (your opinion) and second what you feel is an equal type musical group that you feel is better listening value..please keep in mind that i have enjoyed music for 50+ years, i have seen thousands of groups and styles of music come and go. i have traveled the world and listened to many wonderful cultures musical talents several of which are underrated or not as celebrated as they should be. i find much of the current main stream music horrid.. and not really music at all but a means to an end for making money, and lack luster talent popular, (my opinion) which is why i will restate the deftones are underrated, (again my opinion) ...i am open to discussion and would like to hear from others like yourself....

I have a theory. Their albums follow a pattern of album covers featuring an animal (Like Linus) a thing (Adrenaline) a woman (Around the Fur) and then an animal again (White Pony). Self titled album was a thing again, Saturday Night Wrists was a woman, and I think Eros was supposed to be an animal, but it got shelved, so Diamond Eyes was an animal. After that, Koi No Yokan was a thing, continuing the pattern, their next album with be a woman. For the album after that, they will use an animal again, and I've seen Eros art feature both a dove and a jellyfish. Either way, it's an animal, so they will release Eros after this next album because it will stick to their pattern of album covers.
