Well, I can agree, I can make an argument to disagree as well. I mean, the song is probably their most commercially successful and most. of the Toolarmy consider it one of the top 5 for sure. And with Tool that's hard to do. Also, there is probably a third of the entire population that knows what the Fibonacci sequence is now. So definitely deserving of the video. Now my counter argument to myself. This really feels like a courtroom for your pretend and like you're arguing with each other, but you're really on each other side. Anyway, that's a kangaroo court. That's a different tool song. Now, my counter argument would be no matter how great the video was. If Alex & Adam went back to Universal Studios and made the video. It could never live up to the expectations of the variance of pickiness levels within the ToolArmy. Also, all the haters or nickelback and rush fans would be in their feelings. Turn it down in every way possible. Oh, did I forget Nirvana, it's ok Everybody else did too.

In before people cite the quay brothers because kurt cobain was pissy one day he was asked about Tool. And also here to say that Adam does not deny the influence, in fact he claims his first few were in his own words “almost shameless rip offs”. But it wasn’t popular until Tool, and Adam took it and went beyond it and without a doubt did plenty that was his own thing. The symbolism, Adams unique style and delivery, combining it with Alex Greys super cerebral spiritual colorful identity… just so good. That whole gray scale, flat, blocky, almost black and white flat dead and dark certainty being doused in the bursting magical lively biology and spiritual illumination at the end couldn’t have made either pop any more than it did.

I realized this in 2021 at age 42: At the beginning of the video, a frame drops down, which creates a smaller "window" that we watch the video in. I never knew what that was about, I kind of thought it was some early 2000s internet pirate artifact and this was the only version of the video I could find, but I never gave it much thought (and I was completely wrong). The frame is there to make our brain think that we're watching a video of a certain size (smaller than the full screen), and the length of the video eventually convinces our brain that the video is that small. At a very specific moment around 8:45, the frame that's been there the entire time slowly zooms out as if the camera is zooming in, but the frame never re-appears, and the next scene is full-screen, physically larger than the video we've been watching. This tricks our brain into believing that we are actually seeing something "larger" or "greater" while it moves through the Alex Grey scenes at the end. Previously there was a limit or boundary, and the boundary gets slowly removed when enlightenment begins, effectively tricking our brain into thinking that we're now looking at something actually larger.

I hate to burst your bubble but the answer is drugs. Specific techniques are used throughout tool videos that rely on the ghosting effect given by hallucinogens. So much so that if you haven't done heavy psychs and watched these videos, then you just haven't seen them. This isn't just "oh dude weed, yeah man drugs are cool," these are very meticulous choices that take a ridiculous amount of fx skill to emulate. The entire video box set this comes off of is an absolute trip. It even intentionally fucks with you on the home screen, ensuring viewers will have the initial background burned in to their vision by the time the videos start playing. As a collection it is arguably one of the greatest artistic achievements of all time.

The best thing I've ever done was to listen to them again, my favorites from this album are "The Patient", "Schism", "Parabol", "Parabola", "Eon Blue Apocalipsys", "Ticks & Leeches", "Lateralus", "Reflection" and "Triad", all of them are just masterpieces, sorry for my bad English, it's not my mother language.

Maybe one or two elements .. but Tool took all of the elements, turned them up to 11 and left everyone else for dead. I would also argue Radiohead have a similar trajectory and place in history.

Me, too. I think the plot to it is this: the men at the beginning are the "gods", aliens, higherpowers. The antennae guy is mankind, or an alien equal to such. The little guy is animal life, "lesser life". While the human rep is busy studying science and trying to unravel the universe, the lesser life is desperately trying to warn him of mortality and danger. The human doesn't listen, tries to rage at the coming death, then flees into the wilderness, but is ultimately overcome. He finally sees the light and energy of us all, and the two eyes represent Male and Female as a spiritual concept, both living equally in every living thing. They bind together at his death, his real or "third" eye opens, and he lays down into the interwoven fabric of life's light blanket...

I also like to see it as transcending into a higher form of understanding of existence since a big part of tools message is that we are all just part of one big thing ... basically the universe. This song resonates with me more than any other Tool song that I've ever heard including Schism. I attempted su*cid* at age 16 in high school and I decided to isolate myself where I thought no one would find me once I was de*d. I celebrated my 35th birthday 3-1-2024. I suffered all forms of abuse my entire life. I truly wanted to escape permanently from all the abuse I suffered through. At age 16, my initial thought process was su***de was the only real escape for me. I'm very glad I could find solace of mind & emotion so I could truly enjoy my life as I've done for the past 19 years & going forward. It was an extremely difficult journey of more suffering. However, I am so very happy that I've achieved so much in my life and I pushed past the suffering to find contentment in my life. I had to wait a very long time to find solace, but I bask in my happiness now. 🤗

So in other words......it ACTUALLY MOST CERTAINLY IS a song about turning away from suicide......as treasuering life as the holy gift it is would negate the desire to end one's life by their hand.......I should know, I am only still alive because of this song and all of tool/Maynards work........I mean that absolutely literally too......this song stopped me.....and I didn't put it on......it was on a Playlist my friend made and I had it on shuffle, there were HUNDREDS of songs that could have started playing as I put that bottle of Xanax up to my lips.......but it was the ONE.....SINGLE.....SONG......that I needed to hear RIGHT at that moment to stop me......tool saved my life.......
@r3b3lvegan893 жыл бұрын
That’s a very plausible and applicable conclusion. But it’s not so much about avoiding suicide and it’s more so about existence itself and where we come from. It’s why the first words are “embracing new this reality; this one this form I hold now, we barely remember what came before this precious moment” they are saying it’s a deeply holy experience to realize where we actually come from and I don’t mean the womb of a woman, I mean the essence of human life to begin with: both women and men and it’s the same source for all matter and existence which Eastern science has known for millennia but western propaganda has muddied the waters for so many sadly. It’s why they show the “egg of life” and the ego portrayed by the little creature. The ego is an illusion and when looking past it we can see the holiness of reality

Anyones theory can be as valid as anyone else’s. The lyrics are pretty up for interpretation, intentionally so that it means what it needs to mean to each person. Mark of a great artist. Mark of a decent person as well, as many if not most songs are highly narcissistic… Tool have plenty that are genuinely here to be for everyone, including dear Maymay. I always thought of it a little more cerebrally. As in… we are all made up of an outrageously unlikely potion of ingredients and choices and chaos, and the incredible unlikelihood of that lends there to be reason to think that consciousness itself decided to… be. A sort of birthing of itself. We are a mix of choices the universe made, and not to take that for granted… as we are highly significant in our extreme insignificance compared to the other or nothing that could have been. Basically, to breathe is to appreciate itself. And to drown in misery is basically the only thing you can do wrong when it’s all such a marvel, including you and your suffering.

This song saved my life on a particularly dark day, and started my journey of learning how to love myself, finding sobriety and becoming physically fit and healthy. I was about to jump to my death, and decided to listen to some spotify. By some absolutely glorious coincidence, parabol and parabola played first on my playlist. I had never given much thought to that song before, but in that moment, It had a whole new meaning to me, i started crying tears of joy as Maynard sang "this chance to beeeee alive and breathing." As I was walking back home, I made a pledge to myself to start embracing life and taking more control over it, instead of viewing life as something that just happens to me. Obviously there's things I can't change in life, but I can change my outlook on life and how I choose to overcome the struggles. I just wish there was some way I could thank Maynard, Adam, Danny, and Justin personally.

Among other videos I've seen comments about a band called "Tool" so I decided to look it up. I chose to watch this video and I am really impressed right now! These are some of the best song lyrics I've ever heard and I love how existential this is. The song makes me feel like there is one eternity or unity everything comes from, but at the same time it makes me realise that I am right here right now alive and in my own body. It reminded me of a realization I had some months ago: I am from Germany and here body is called "Körper". The word Körper is not only used for a human body but can also mean geometric solid like a cube, a pyramid, etc. I had issues with my body years ago but now for me it feels like a geometric solid, a house or a tool to carry "me". It is easier now to feel at home here :), even though I feel separated from my body sometimes. The line "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality" almost made me cry. I also really loved the video! My favourite part was the end because it reminded me of meditation and the way breathing sometimes makes you feel that there is a flower growing in your chest. I will definitely listen to other songs of them! And I know this comment is a bit unnecessary, I just had to share my personal experiences with this song. (Also my English is certainly not perfect, but I am doing my best; I am still in 10th grade and have to learn a lot)

Desoxyribonukleinsäure, this comment is fucking good. It’s badass that you are so deep into this fascinating experience. The Ending ( 8:35 Alex Grey portion) of this video is brilliant. It depicts whats called Mahasamadhi (when consciousness leaves the body and forms super consciousness into the universe). It shows earth energy (cold energy - food being hot energy) entering through the chakra meridians (the eye flames - which came from the leaf - which came from the tree - which came from the earth) climbing up and opening the 7 chakras of the spinal cord. The fifth being the solar plexus chakra (you can see the lotus flower opening up) last being the third eye (pineal gland chakra) - then leaving the mans body (death- as you see the man fold his arms to a burial position) and turning into a grid of light mapped out into the web of the universe. Mind you the eyes all above him as this is happening are past souls looking down at his "graduation". Alex Grey is BRILLIANT for knowing this (Mahasamadhi).

@@ChrishBlake maybe a peak into symbolism, begining with 6, the fascination of 7 systems to which when viewed both inward and outward lead one around and up the path towards knowing what was hidden for so long. The images remind me of ancient symbols the repetitive design of the tree for instance, the seeds in the apple, the regurgitation of the circle, idk maybe it's totally not that and just a means to inspire one's own interpreted series of illusions or delusions coming undone to reveal what they already innately knew.. towards the end the you get the lifted veil and an emergence into a truer sense of reality as mentioned above. 🤷

This is how an out of body experience starts.I was blessed to have one and return to life.I was really exahusted after 4 days without sleep and i went to bed.I was trying to calm myself to sleep but my mind was racing and all i could feel was my pulsating body.I started feeling waves going through my legs thats numbing them.I didnt feel my legs after a while and i was thinking about how quiet it was at 12am.Didnt hear the neighbours or any usual sounds.And im sitting there like.. well im not even hearing my stuffy nose breathe.I don't feel my lungs moving,only my chest is levitating towards the celing kinda.I have stopped breathing.At that point i knew i wasnt breathing for minutes and im probably dead.Then as people say life flashes before your eyes,I wasnt feeling regret, i was proud of my life, knew that if my circumstances were different i couldve done better and stuff like that.But i forgave myself and everyone because i understood that we come from the same place.I was in a dark tunnel but i started seeing the light.I felt at peace like never in my life, so humble going to this holy white energy or matter.I've had experiences with hallucinogens and this wasnt like any of them, but i wanted to open my eyes and see.Then i saw the duality of my body lying on my bed while im still consciously thinking.Didnt even experience cognitive dissonance, my brain just went to this point of the song and was like "aha so Tool were about that".Later i woke up and i felt in a higher state of conciousness for like a week. Thats why the lyrics at this point go: This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality Embrace this moment, remember We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion.
