Deftones is a Grammy-winning alternative rock band renowned for their hits “Change (In The House Of Flies),” “Sextape,” “Diamond Eyes,” “You've Seen The Butcher,” “Minerva,” “Rocket Skates,” and “Beauty School.” They worked with artists like Jerry Cantrell, Maynard James Keenan, and Serj Tankian - amassing billions of global streams and receiving multi-platinum certifications.
Lyrics:
Here I lay
Still and breathless
Just like always
Still, I want some more
Mirrors sideways
Who cares what's behind?
Just like always
Still your passenger
The chrome buttons buckle on leather surfaces
These and other lucky witnesses
Now to calm me
This time won't you please
Drive faster
Roll the windows down this
Cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees anything?
I'm your passenger
I'm your passenger
Drop these down
Then put them on me
Nice cool seats
There to cushion your knees
Now to calm me
Take me around again
Don't pull over
This time won't you please
Drive faster
Roll the windows down this
Cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees what tonight?
Roll these misty windows
Down to catch my breath and then
Go and go and go just
Drive me home and back again
Here I lay
Just like always
Don't let me
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go
Take me to the edge

"Having Maynard perform on the record wasn’t something that we planned on doing. We didn’t plan on having any guest on the record. But being a fan of Tool and A Perfect Circle, once Maynard was involved, it was just a magical thing for us. Honestly, when he first started working with us, he wasn’t supposed to sing with us. He was just working on the arrangements, riff structures, time signatures, and things like that. I don’t know if you’re a big fan of Tool’s music, but they’re really mathematical. I’ve been to their rehearsal space, and there’s this big chart that just looks like calculus-the way they write songs, it’s just crazy. It was good to have someone else who has different ways of writing songs, ‘cause everyone has a different way of doing it. He came in and we started working on this one song in particular, and he just grabbed the microphone and started singing along to it, and my jaw just dropped. All of a sudden our band sounded like Tool; it was just crazy. Then, probably two months later, we went in to record the album, and I went in to record the vocals on it, and I just kept hearing his voice, this recurring melody with his voice coming over it. So I called him and asked him if he wanted to come down and sing on the record, and he had no problem with it. Once he came in, I gave him sort of what I wanted the song to be about, and he wrote a couple of ideas down, and the next day he came in with all the lyrics written all out with blank spaces where my lyrics were supposed to be. He’s very professional like that. He wants everything set perfectly, which is the complete opposite to the way that I write, so it was cool. And then I went in and did my vocals over it, and it just seemed that our voices blended together pretty good." - Chino Moreno, DeftonesWorld

When I was 17, (20 years ago), I was very deep interested into this two bands. When the White Pony came out and I realized that they had this collaboration together, was mind blowing for me. It was a pre-social networks time, so been amaze was still a possibility.

3 years ago I underwent a massive surgery in a final attempt to stop a bacteria that had eaten away 3 of my ribs, a clavicle, half of my pec muscle and finally reached one of my lungs. I signed a DNR and asked the surgical team only 1 favor. Have this song playing in the surgical room before I went under. I will never forget staring up at blinding white lights hearing it play as i counted back to about 8. 2 days later My Surgical Nurse told me in the ICU that they left it on loop the entire duration of the 9 hour surgery.

Working club security in 90s at Deftones shows was fucking epic! The pits were sick !! Stage dives Chino in crowd. I still have a Deftones crew Shirt ripped up destroyed in a frame on my wall. It was combat working the shows but the Band and crew would smoke n drink with us after. They really appreciated us keeping the stage fun but safe too. I went on to tour with bands all over the world as personal security or bodyguard and these early shows made me fall in love with the live experience and make a career of it.

Music is better than a drug. More original. It doesn’t hijack your evolved reward system. It’s part of it already. It’s real. It’s a living thought. Unlike those other things. Those other things might tell you about yourself. But they rarely tell you anything true, that you couldn’t have found out. Or true in the concrete physical sense. Unlike music. It occurs to me that the mating of metaphysical to physical is self evidently meaningful. Is what life is at all. A thought with no recourse is nothing. Reality without thought manifest is void.

@@calebashford1686 Oh yeah, about 3 months ago I finished their discography bro. My opinion on each album: Adrenaline (Was alright but they definitely made better albums after). ATF (Definitely a great album but not their best). White Pony (The magnum opus according to other fans but I don't agree. It's really good though). Self titled (Chaotic but still had good tracks. Not in my top three though). SNW (If Pink Cellphone and a few other tracks were removed it'd be one of their greatest to me). Diamond Eyes (Insanely good. Took me a few listens to enjoy it this much but it's truly amazing). KNY (The tracks are a bit too long for their own good but it's one of my favorite albums). Gore (Phantom Bride was outstanding but I didn't like this album very much). Ohms (Excuse my language but this is fucking amazing. I'd leave out Genesis because it felt too convoluted but the rest is perfect. I'd say that if White Pony is their magnum opus then Ohms is them perfecting their entire sound a second time). I do want to see where their next album takes things. A part of me hopes they release Eros or at least some tracks from it.

@@lrn5152 indeed. My brother and I stumbled upon them with dumb luck from a pothead friend 😆 I'm just now getting into Alice In Chains, so don't feel bad.
