Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a 2023 American computer-animated superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Spider-Man, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), it is set in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called the Spider-Verse. The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, in their feature directorial debuts, from a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller (who both also co-produce) and David Callaham. Shameik Moore voices Miles, starring alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya and Oscar Isaac. In the film, Miles goes on an adventure with Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman across the multiverse where he meets a new team of Spider-People known as the Spider-Society, led by Miguel O' Hara / Spider-Man 2099, but comes into conflict with them over handling a new threat.
Sony began developing a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse before its 2018 release, with the writing and directing team attached. It was set to focus on the relationship between Moore's Miles and Steinfeld's Gwen. The sequel was officially announced in November 2019 and animation work began in June 2020, with a different visual style for each of the six universes visited by the characters. With a runtime of 140 minutes, it makes it the longest animated film ever produced by an American studio.[5]
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premiered at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles, California on May 30, 2023, and was released in the United States on June 2, having been delayed from an original April 2022 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to its predecessor, the film has garnered universal acclaim from critics for its animation, story, humor, vocal performances, and musical score. A third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled to be released on March 29, 2024, while a female-focused spin-off film is in development.

It's a bit like Spidey's version of a Rickroll; comfortable, genial, not mean-spirited, and most people just smile at it, but some folks are tired of it. At least it's not yet as overused as the Wilhelm Scream. ...or Muh Uncle Ben and endless Spider angst. Man, if Miles can Break Canon and finally let writers make happy Spiders, we're on the cusp of some great stories.

I dont think Peter siding with Miguel is out of character. The whole Multiverse collapsing really hammers home one of the main principles of being Spider-Man and that is responsibilty. We saw this too with Spider-Man PS4. Peter had to choose either letting May die, saving hundreds or saving May and letting hundreds die. He knew what he had to do but hesitated only for May to reassure him that he knows what needs to be done which is let her die to save the others.

And to the general concept that a hero "needs" a "dead parents or mentor figure" in their origin story to "motivate" them into heroism.

I loved how big a role Hobie turned out to have despite his limited appeareance in the movie: - He's the one who taught Miles to improve his Venom Strike by using his palms and not just the fingertips. - This leads to Miles being able to escape the forcefield that Miguel put him in, you can even see Hobie holding up his hands and mouthing "palms" at Miles while he's there. - Hobie doesn't actually leave his watch for Gwen, he builds his own! You can see him stealing bits and pieces from the lab in the spider-headquarters, and he foreshadows this by telling Miles to build his own watch instead of relying on getting one from Miguel. - On their way to see Miguel, Hobie tries to get Miles to go his own way and do things his way, I think this is both due to his anarchist believes, and because he knows how Miguel feels about Miles. - When everyone else is telling Miles to just accept that his dad has to die, Hobie isn't agreeing with them, even being told by Jessica that he isn't helping to which he replies "good". - When everyone else is chasing Miles, Hobie is the only one refusing to participate in the chase and he even quits the spider-society for good. (and leaves his watch from Miguel behind). - Later, when Gwen is thrown back into her own dimension, Hobie has already left a new watch (which he made for her) for her at her dad's apartment, thus making it possible for Gwen to go and assemble a team to help Miles. - And of course Hobie joins Gwens team too.

@Jordan J1601 I believe Disney owns the TV Rights to Spider-Man, and they don't seem to have any interest in ressurecting the show. Plus, even if Disney wanted to revive Spectacular Spider-Man, Sony owns the rights to it since they're the ones who originally made it.

21:30, also to add on to that. If you pay attention to when Peter saved miles in the first movie. Peter's spider sense was red and blue in the background while Miles's background was green and purple, which is prowler colors. Indicates that Miles was supposed to be the prowler in the future but changes to a heroic red and blue. Changing the story of miles.

Some people say that Peter B Parker was ruined when he sided with Miguel and while it is an unexpected turn for the character, especially for being the main Peter in this multiverse, I like to think that this Peter is still learning what it truly means to be Spider-Man or at least needs to be reminded. In Into the Spider-Verse, you can see that while Peter is trying to mentor Miles, you can see that he himself learns from Miles too and it's because of that does he redeem himself to where he is now. I believe Peter B still has some areas of growth even in his adulthood and this is an opportunity that Peter needs to know is that Spider-Man is someone who could save everyone, no matter how small of importance they are and will try to do everything in their power to do just that, no matter what the cost. I remember in Edge of Time where Peter also criticizes Miguel for this very same belief of being Spider-Man and I hope to see something like this be delivered whether it be Miles and/or Peter showing Miguel what it truly means to be Spider-Man.
@dn22pkkdd476
@dn22pkkdd476 Жыл бұрын
Plus, Peter B. was there when Migel's adopted dimension collapsed and died. He saw first hand what happens when a dimension falls apart and everyone inside gets wiped from fucking existence. But he's shown the entire Nuva York chase trying to talk Miles down from his course of action, stealthily helping him out, and cheering him on as he tries to defy fate. Anyone who is calling this "character assassination" knows nothing of Peter B. He's the Spider-Man that's always been a bit more wishy-washy and more lax in his convictions and his motives. He'll try to take the easier path due to being so tired of failing and what looks like his ongoing depression symptoms that he's only just starting to shake off. But when the chips are down, he will act and help his friends in any way he can. I think in the next movie, we're going to see Peter faced with a similar choice between his daughter or the multiverse.

Went to see this movie with my sister yesterday! We both had a HELLAVA time with it! (Even though at times we did feel some important dialogue went by too fast at times or was drowned out by music and sound effects.) Still, this film absolutely deserves all the praise it gets, and rightly deserves to be recognized as one of the best AND most important Spiderman films ever made! Another matter worth bringing up is how Miles is walking the razor's edge and having quite the (undesired) gamble regarding the relationship with his parents (particularly in so far as he has to keep his Spiderman identity secret from them). How Gwen tells him that revealing that secret can only end badly like it did for her and her dad, but then several scenes later, Pavitr Prabhakar (the Spiderman voiced by Karan Soni) reveals his identity to his but it ends beautifully for him. (And how, even for Gwen, Captain Stacey came around and accepted her.) It really drives up the stakes and anticipation as to whether Miles will eventually make the move to come out and tell them. And when he does...that's when he gets the rug pulled out from under him, during the revelation that he's not in his universe! Yet another thing to be saved for 'Beyond the Spiderverse'...and I'm absolutely at the edge of my seat at seeing how that's going to play out! Although I will say (maybe this is due to be not being as well-versed in the Spider-lore as more devoted fans are) the big reveal of Miles confronting an older version of himself...turning out to be his enemy...I did NOT see that coming! (Anyone else reminded of the Zurg reveal from 'Lightyear' by that?) But that one shot at the end, before it cuts to "TO BE CONTINUED"...it's also a really nice, subtle callback to one of Miles' important Spiderman lessons from the first movie: "First rule as Spiderman: Watch the hands!"

17:45 I like to have this idea in my head of a universal way that dimensions and time travel works. Like just a concept for myself. One of the main things ive come up with is, time has a flow, like a river, but that river can turn to ice. The parts that are "ice" act as fate, and can be "broken" but its difficult if not impossible depending on the circumstance.

Here's my crazy fan therory/prediction for Beyond the Spider-Verse. Beware of spoilers. At one point in the movie, Spot references that he has a family that he can no longer be with because of the accident that made him. I think that Spot's wife will be revealed to be Olivia Octavius, the Doc Ock of Miles's dimension. Here's why: 1. They are both scientists who wanted to tap into the multiverse. That's a pretty major common interest. 2. When Spot uses the Super Collider in Mumbattan, he says, "The power of the multiverse in the palm of my hand." This is significant for two reasons. First, it calls back to Doc Ock's line in Spider-Man 2 where he says, "The power of the sun in the palm of my hand." As we later find out, the Raimiverse is tied to the film's multiverse, but this raises the question of why would a random unrelated character from another universe echo a Doc Ock quote. But if Spot and Ock are husband and wife then perhaps this was a phrase Ock once said and Spot is now repeating. Second, Doc Ock herself was actually going to say this line in the climax of Into the Spider-Verse. Perhaps this is a hint to a larger connection between the two. If my theory is correct, then expect to see Doc Ock back in Beyond the Spider-Verse working with Spot to cause even more trouble for the Spider-People. If you read my entire comment about what even I'll admit is a crackpot theory I commend you.

I find it amazing how they make Spot a c-list villain from the comics who’s only real personality trait is being friends with Mysterio to a funny at the beginning but terrifying villain. I know I’m probably one of the only Ben Reily fans to think this but I didn’t mind his character. It was a bit of a character assassination though only real problem I have is that this will probably be Bens only appearance in anything besides the comics and the 90s animated series. I loved Miguel’s characterisation as a huge fan of Spider-Man 2099 he definitely has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He defied canon destroying another universe. Even though I side with Miles more I do understand his perspective. Gwen was elevated from being an okay side character to an interesting character. Her storyline begins the movie and ends the movie and her relationship with her father Captain Stacy being amazing as someone who thoroughly enjoyed the original Spider-Gwen comics I also enjoyed Spider-Man’s new suit. It didn’t have any webs on it but it still looked great and was a new good design.

This film realy plays with the Trolley Dilemma that superhero movies love to tackle. The idea of being forced to choose between 1 person and countless people. What differenciates a hero from a super hero is thst a super hero has the ability to do both. Miles is a superhero a "good guy, is that he's willing and able to do both. Something that a lot of the other spider people seem to have forgotten.

I'm sticking with my theory Canon events can be avoided so long it doesn't alter the deminsion to much. Miguel took over someone's life and changed and altered countless other lives because of it. Because he was saving people were fated to die, think of how drastically this can effect everyone around them, which could effect other people or things, and those could effect others, there's no telling where it would end. And Miguel keeps saving more and more people, stopping crimes, causing or preventing collateral damage, causing people who wrote supposed to live to die- and it kept going and going until the deminsion couldn't keep up eventually caved in on itself. What makes it worse is if he'd quit being Spiderman and just been there for his daughter, things might have turned out all right. But because he chose to keep helping people, it cost him everything.

One theory i've heard to explain the absense of glitching in stuff like the MCU, could be as you said compatibility, like maybe because the worlds we see in the MCU look exactly the same as the regular universe then the body atoms don't fall apart, like if you look at Tobey's world and Tom's world they are 100% exact same looking, therefore Tobey doesn't glitch when he enters the MCU as his atoms are compatible with that world Now with Spider-Verse each universe has its own style even if its small, but they have their distinct looks, so lets say if Tobey went from his world to Peter B. Parker world, then Tobey would glitch out, as now his body is totally incompatible with this world that looks totally different from his world. Side note: i had a different experience with the pointing scene, while your crowd groaned, over here everyone laughed.

wanna know what made me fall in love with this movie? it wasnt the fluffy budding romance, or the amazing animation, it wasnt even just the characters that i loved returning. it was a moment in the movie, one that has been one of my biggest pet peevs in man of steel, and pretty much what made me unable to take that movie seriously. its when miles asks miguel, peter b, gwen and the other spidemen around "what should i do, let him die?". that scene in MoS, was botched so badly, it made me unable to sympathise with either clark or his father. but in spiderverse it works, not only because miles is asking a question BEFORE he does it. for clark he does the deed and is reprimanded by his father, telling him he shouldnt, and we are forced to believe that he "learned that lesson". that he lost that super heroic spirit he had. but to miles its the opposite, he asks this to people who KNOW what they are talking about, and they are telling him he shouldnt. and we can see in their face that this isnt a "maybe". and then, miles absorbs that, and tell them, no, i will save him, because that's what heroes do. i really hope someone one day does a break down on why that scene works on spiderverse, but doesnt in MoS.

I fucking loved this movie. It was so great. Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!! I think it’s even better. It actually develops miles character. Way better than what it was in the first movie. spoilers!!! And miles literally sees what he could be at the end of the film. And start to realize his mistakes. And Miguel told this man lol. Avi Arad, convinced Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. To add The spot as the main villain. Because he wasn’t the original villain. But even so the spot was an amazing villain. I loved him. And the twist with the 2 miles was crazy so that other earth that we follow our miles that we think is the original. Technically the original would’ve been in earth 42. And he fucked that one over. What in actuality was spot. And also Gwen was on point and I really liked her father. And Miguel O’Hara was great too. I give it a 8.5 out of 10. I have to rethink my list for the best Spider-Man movies. Because for me it’s no way home, Across the spider verse is my new 2nd. And spider-Man two is definitely going to down to the third place. Followed by Spider-Man one at 4th, and lastly at fifth spider-Man homecoming. I was so excited man I can’t wait for part 3. Beyond the spider verse. Which is scheduled for, march 29, 2024

It's incredible how many orders of magnitude bigger and more epic Across the Spider-Verse is compared to Into the Spider-Verse. It felt like it was never going to end, and I didn't want it to. Don't think I can wait another year for Beyond, but I'm beyond excited to see how this story ends.

I for one can't stand the new Miles suit. People saying that suits are being overdesigned, this one feels like a complete downgrade and its not just the fact it has no webs. The red down the sides I just think look so boring and misses the charm the og had. I would have been happy if we had the first suit back, even in the first film that suit didn't get much time in the spot light except for the final fight.

It was an amazing movie and loved your video, but no you shouldn’t give Arad a pass at all. All credit here goes to Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and their team of directors and animators and editors. For every giant and wonderful step forward this film represents and is, this also the studio that produced venom and morbius and will give us kraven soon (and I am pissed off at that one in particular since kraven is one of my favorite marvel characters).

I think if you look at it this way, you’ll understand. You can have free will, but also live in a predetermined timeline. For example. It’s my choice if I want to wake up and drink coffee in the morning. But the timeline already knew I was going to drink coffee so it was already pre-determined that I was going to drink coffee. It’s not the timeline that made me do it. It’s just the fact that it knew I was going to because that’s just what happens. There are certain events in life that are vital to our character development. And without those events, certain things wouldn’t happen. Certain points in history that just cannot be changed. Or else it would affect everything else. So it’s kind of hard to understand. But in my opinion, Freewill can exist in a predetermined timeline. Just like in real life, God knows every move that we are going to make. But we have free will.

This is kind of a question with no answer but I feel it's worth asking. Miguel has no definitive proof that breaking canon will destroy a universe. His actions may or may not have been the reason for the destruction of the universe he was in. The situation with Mumbattan, yes Miles saved someone who was supposed to die and a giant void showed up in the middle of the city, but if we looked closely at when the Alchemax building was collapsing we already see something black was encroaching on the building and the void was exactly where the building landed. This could just mean that it was whatever spot left behind. So the question is let's say that Miles didn't save his dad and his dad died, his universe still ends up getting destroyed because of the Spot or whatever other reason. We know they will attempt to save that universe because it's the whole point of their group. But who will take responsibility? Will all the Spider people that were involved actually do anything? How will they take responsibility for a 15 year old losing his father because of their action? Cause there's no way they'll just go O well sorry you lost your father for no reason.

I still find it absurd that Spiderfolk "canon event breaking" would break a dimension. It's a weirdly narcissistic sort of conceit. I get that such is the groundwork for the Miguel vs Miles conflict, but man, Spiders just aren't the backbone of reality. More to the point, *Suffering* Spiders shouldn't be the backbone of reality. If the writers can break canon that way and open up the whole storytelling nature of Spider-man to allow for happy Spiderfolk and all sorts of different *coughdiversecough* stories instead of the same tired old story beats, well, that would be a triumph beyond the movies themselves.

Just like the first movie, this movie is so freaking unfair. Like I’m still trying to wrap my head around how incredible it was and I saw it 4 days ago. I can’t think of any negatives I have and I have tried to think about it but I’m drawing a blank. This is maybe the most beautiful looking movie I’ve ever seen, every big character is so good, Miles and Gwen both are really great characters on their own and have such a good dynamic, I love every bit of the story and we haven’t even gotten the third act with Beyond the Spider-Verse, and the references and callbacks, I swear when Spectacular Spider-Man showed up played by Josh Keaton, me and my brother where actually shouting (our coworkers probably got a kick out of that), and obviously things like Insomniac and Andrew were awesome to see and had me going nuts but especially Spectacular when we haven’t seen him in so long and Josh Keaton hasn’t played Spider-Man in so long as well. I’ve given myself time to really think about this and I’m standing by this, this movie is tied with the first for being my favorite movie of all time. Talk about a masterpiece

To be fair, that is a fairly accurate description of 2099 in the comics... He's literally just a total dick, he's an arrogant, cocky, angry, former drug addict who became spiderman by an accident caused by a former coworker out of spite... His brother was the hero, he's a rebel freedom fighter fighting against Alchemax and other megacorperations like Stark-Fujikawa, while Miguel is a jackass who works for the very companies his brother is trying to stop. There was a legit point where Miguel even attacked and smacked his girlfriend halfway across the room. He stole his suit from a vendor at a Day of The Dead celebration. He's not a good dude, he has more in common with Venom or the Spider-man (current era) villains, than he does with ACTUAL Spider-man. And yes, he's badass, but you would be too if you had talons, claws, the ability to weild Thor's hammer and beat Thor to a pulp with it, the ability to see and react faster than normal Spidermen, and fangs with venom capable of paralyzing a foe the size of galactus... For a good comparison, think of it this way: Spiderman 2099 is basically what you would get if you gave Jason Todd Spiderman abilites.

Quick correction for some of the story you got a little wrong, (not saying you're wrong for forgetting, just wanted to clear it up) 1. It was Gwen that was warned about the Canon event, not Jess, Jess shows up with the spidey team to try and fix Spider India's World. 2. Spider Punk didn't give Gwen his watch, he made one he dropped of at her Dad's after he quits and leaves his own watch. Gwen didn't get the watch till the end from her dad. 3. Spider India was featured in Gwen's team at the end of the film (Thanks to Bored Erlands for pointing out where I missed Pup forgetting a detail)

An argument could be made that the way doc strange's spell works was changing the universe to include the villains and other spideys so they weren't glitching because the universe was breaking to accommodate them. That's why the spdeys in this movie glitched, because they were in unaltered universes.

After seeing this movie I’ve given a lot of thought to this. I liked it a lot, but I’m surprised by everybody saying it’s “the best Spider-Man,” or “the best superhero movie”. I think it’s incomplete. I don’t feel like Miles’ arc with his parents is complete because he still hasn’t resolved it with THEM. I don’t think his arc with the Spider Society is complete because there’s still a big conflict brewing. I also don’t think his arc of “doing his own thing” is complete (despite being somewhat of a rehash of the first film), because he has not yet accomplished anything but momentary survival since declaring it. I DO think Gwen’s arc about finding her “band” is complete, but despite that being how the movie chooses to begin and end with voice-over and all, it is quite far from being the main focus of the film. Does anybody remember Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest? Yes, it’s considerably inferior to Across The Spider-Verse, but it similarly followed up a fun standalone film with a world-building movie that starts a lot of plot threads that are promised to be resolved in a third film that was shot at the same time. Only that third film advanced or ended several of those plot lines offscreen and for the rest, it jumped ahead to the end of their arcs in a dissatisfying way. I don’t believe that will happen here, but if it does, it will make this movie feel less good in retrospect. But beyond all of this, the scope of this movie is so incredibly grandiose that it doesn’t feel like a Spider-Man movie. I greatly enjoyed the original Spider-Verse comic event and thought it was a fun, unique adventure for the series. I thought Into The Spider-Verse was a great way to take those ideas and ground them into a more street-level-friendly storyline. But hundreds of Spider-Mans living together while determining and directing the fate of the universe feels very offbase for Spider-Man. He’s supposed to get sideswiped by Sandman on his way to college, miss his class, lose his wallet, and cancel the date he was looking forward to, not decide which lives are expendable for the fate of every universe. It’s a cool story, a fun story, but it can only be the best Spider-Man story if you don’t want an actual Spider-Man story.

that's probably what they'll go with if they stick to this interconnectedness between spider-verse and the mcu, and if any explanation does ever become necessary, say for example they do more multiverse stuff within the mcu. probably just a bit more of a retcon since i dont think they originally had in mind that the film universes would be connected but idk, for all i know they discussed this like 3 years ago

I loved nearly everything, even the pointing meme mainly because they raised the scale of it (I do think it ought to stop there, unless they can somehow naturally implement every Spider-Man ever pointing at each other; I doubt it), the only issue I really have would be how fast Gwen's Peter's story is told, I think some more time seeing the two of them together and her dad's dynamic with both of them before Peter died would've made the conflict in their relationship more compelling.

The whole thing about "defying canon" doesnt quite make sense to me. Because ok, so the concept is defying canon... but in reality they are just making the canon function in a way that makes sense. Like, that's effectively what this movie existing does. it adds to the canon, it doesnt dismantle it. It just happens to have a character who's shown to be in the wrong that values their "version" of the "canon" but that's not the canon in reality. Because they are making it, right there.

Leaving a second comment on a rewatch but frick it, I don’t see any rules about how many comments you leave on one video. I’ve got a bit of a theory (“A FILM THEORY!”…sorry, I had to) on part of how canon events may work and how that could work in Miles’ favor to save his dad and not have his universe fall apart in the process, so we’ve so far mainly seen two canon events being the one in Pavitr’s universe after Miles saves Inspector Singh, and Miguel showing what happened to the variant of his universe, but near the end when Gwen talks to her dad and he decides to quit being captain, and we know about the whole police captain/canon event thing and Gwen even seemed to realize this when she said “that means…” so it seems like Gwen might have broke a canon event and her universe is still fine, so think about this, why did the other two canon events we saw at least start to unravel that universe, with Miguel it was because he took the place of the Miguel of that universe, with Pavitr’s universe it’s because Miles saved Inspector Singh, Miles and Miguel weren’t from those universes, Gwen, when she may have broke hers, is, so that’s what I’m suggesting here/suggesting Miguel and the Spider Society are missing, if a canon event is broken by someone from another universe then the universe collapses, but if it’s broken by the Spider-hero of that universe then it’s safe, and now that Gwen has experienced that and if I’m right (which I very much may not be, we’ll find out whenever BtSV comes out) and is able to connect the dots then she’ll probably let Miles know and so he and Gwen’s team will know that Gwen and her team need to make sure they’re not the ones to save Miles’ dad and he does when the time comes so maybe his universe will be safe. Once again, I could definitely be wrong, I’m even kinda expecting that, I was just thinking about this and put these pieces together, but we’ll find out whenever the day of what’ll hopefully make this a perfect trilogy in my eyes comes
