@@cupidok2768they don’t. It’s not really possible to translate the lyrics directly and it fit into the written music. So they choose the best transliteration and translation. Instead, defying gravity becomes seeking freedom.

Just saw the musical today in Osaka. This song was overwhelming. My Japanese is only so-so, but the performance was amazing. The lighting, effects, and vocal performances were amazing... The actress doing Glinda was the same today, as was Elphaba. I will say that the vocal quality live seemed better, but being in the moment probably colored my experience. This is also 2 days before the end of the run, so they've had time to perfect everything. 8000 yen well spent.

i loved the person who played Elphie... she has a good voice!!! no offense, the one who played Galinda (or Glinda i forgot her name) she needed sound a little more sweeter and sincere. it's a powerful song towards the end but in the beginning, it's sincere and sweet.^^ i love the japanese verison =) and i saw the original Broadway cast with Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.. that was THE best musical I have EVER seen in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
