After watching that start segment, a video idea that I think would be really fantastic to see is a radar guide. As someone who is just reaching radar oriented jets for the first time, it’s a little confusing when it comes to the different radar modes and how they function. A video explaining the use of radar, how the function, how to use it, and similar to the start of this video, explaining which key bindings you want to assign and why would be incredibly useful. Great video as usual btw.

Vertical scan is good in dogfights if you can't use HMD for some odd reason. Also in DCS without markers it's sick for scanning an area during a turn at your altitude, which is helpful for reacquiring a target during a fight.

Briefly tried it in the F4J too and it's actually pretty fun too now with the change. A little bit of a slug these days but it's a big upgrade not having to drag the nose onto target for a lock.

That's probably why they added the feature to planes with 2nd seaters, to add functionality that you otherwise can't get access to in a single player contolled plane.

The F16 is correct imo. It doesn’t turn at all above 1000 kph. It feels like a f104. It can turn below 1000 kph, but you will bleed all your speed in 4 seconds. The mig 29 is better than the f16 in my opinion. I have played both and I definitely prefer the mig 29

@@OzzyTheWild The F16 doesn't really bleed all its speed... it has massive acceleration.... the issue I've run into most is that I go too fast and don't bleed speed so the only way to turn is to use airbrakes a lot. Its definitely like an F104 at high speed, but at mid speed that thing murders every other plane. I once had 4 enemies on me for a good 5 minutes straight during a match and they just could not keep up enough energy to get a shot on me, my team ended up cleaning them up. By comparison, the F14 bleeds its speed a lot more and has less acceleration because its so heavy, but that thing feels a lot better for getting your nose on target at higher speeds than the F16.

You would never have problems locking people with radar if you had a radar keybind "Select Radar/IRST target to lock" since it allows u to cycle thru targets on your radar and choose manually who you want to lock.

The problem with the "old" ACM mode can be somewhat eleviated by binding it to one of your mouse buttons instead of buttons on your keyboard. I got it set to middle mouse button, and when it selects the wrong target I just press it off and on again to aqcuire a new lock (or break lock if my missile starts tracking a friendly). I also have my missile buttons bound to one of my side mouse buttons. Basicly with this way you're controlling your movement and all of your weapons with one hand, and you have your other hand free to do other stuff like holding "C" to look around, switch weapons, use flares and controlling basic throttling up and down of your engine. This works really well for me.

My comments and concerns with the introduction of the MiG-29: The HMD, on console it doesn’t work when you’re free looking like you can on PC. Only tracks the cursor of the “mouse aim”. Secondly, with how well 9Ls and PLs track through flares, I don’t understand why they couldn’t add the R-73s but nerfed from how they were in the dev servers. R-60Ms are completely trash. Thirdly, the R-27ER with its inconsistency be frustrating. Few times I’ve launched, with solid locks, it over shoots. I’m only using it in medium/long ranges. Not understanding why it’s so inconsistent. Fourthly, how the R-27Ts (whichever supposed to have the ECMM) does for flares more common than I thought it would. Doesn’t seem like it has the ECCM at all. Overall the best flies amazing but the loadouts feel so suppressed and somewhat lacking/underperforming. Then before anyone thinks I’m a Russian main, I play all nations. F-16 solid but a joke it has a G limit and engine thrust missing about 15000 lbs of thrust. I say just add it

R-27 in WT are nerfed versus real life. in WT R-27 has less range and are slower. IRL have R-27 up to 30% higher range compared to WT and are 4.5 mach in real life vs 3.5 mach in WT, so again 30% nerf. usually gaijin are nerfing Russian tech by 30%, its their common practice

the hmd is absolutely a massive asset irl, remember pilots dont get a radar on their hud (unless theyre russian), and that hud definitely isnt on their helmet(unless theyre very modern). modern combat doctrines mean merges and dogfights dont happen often, but when they do you effectively always hmd slave your radar to acquire a target. and you of course want a small targeting area because its a dogfight and you want to lock the correct target just wish the mig 29 radar didnt lose lock so easily in war thunder, though it is plenty good enough right now. wonder if theyll accurately model that in american hmd planes the lock mode on the hmd is permanently active while in hmd mode, and not a button press like the russians. makes it easier to use in a panic, and more likely that you lock an ally while panicking too.

@Dingle if played right an F-14 alone can easily carry the entire team consistently no matter team composition on both sides, the mere presence of Phoenix missiles fucks up the enemy positioning no matter if they get hit or not, and most of the time at least some of them will, after the initial merge and radar missile exchange there's the fact that the F-14 is a monstrous dogfighter that mogs the 29 and 16 at higher speeds and keeps up at lower, the guy's right, the F-14 is unstoppable, the only slight problem is the energy retention and mid-to good acceleration, but it's really not the end of the world compared to the rest of the perks it has

@Dingle >flying to the right or the left for an extra 15 seconds won’t magically ruin your game I can tell you haven't played top tier in a long time, every game whichever team finds themselves against the Tomcat will fuck up their positioning by flying to one of either extreme left or extreme right while hugging close to the terrain, otherwise a Phoenix will destroy their ass, it's not 15 seconds of difference, it's the advantage that the team that has Tomcats gets by being able to choose where to go and if played right will decide a game before it's even started > dogfights aren’t even that common either in which the f14 can only compete at low fuel and little missiles Lmao the Tomcat's a beast even in a full config and with high fuel, at low fuel it's just a UFO and has a much better roll rate with swept wings than the 29 and 16, turn rate is debatable, but it's not nearly as bad as a dogfighter as you make it out to be compared to the competition >And missiles wise the aim7F is the only strong missiles the plane has which aren’t difficult to dodge Aim9h are servicable, the Phoenix mere presence intimidates the enemy team, Aim 7F are the third best pure SARH missiles in the game and dodging 30 g missiles is literally based on luck at this point, and answering above, yes r60ms are useless at 11.0, they work at 9-10.x cause half of the enemies lack flares and brains, but at 11.0 unless someone's is literally blind you aren't going to make a kill against a decent player that flares, or keeps his speed high considering the abysmall 2.5 km at best kill range even when faster, 9hs will hit reliably from 3.5 km or plus with equivalent speeds >poor acceleration, hot engines. Hot engines is a non issue, the standard procedure will still work 90% of the time, the last 10% chalk it up to skill issue, most of the time as with anything massive flaring and a sharp turn will invalidate any missile even when ABing The acceleration isn't really that poor, sure it isn't F-16 levels, but it's more than good enough to work in all cases >especially with the f16 and mig 29 running around is embarrassing to say Both of them beat the Tomcat in some areas, but neither gets the comprehensive package "very good at everything, master at most" that the Tomcat gets

I have no idea, I'm also curious. I think with its arrival as well as the su-27 the soviets in many ways at that time had superior aircrafts compared to the US and the rest of the world, so as a kind of rooting for the underdogs type thing, this thing was impressive and a incredible engineering feat for the soviets. It's also just simply a beautiful aircraft. Also I'm not saying this is what I think DEFYN thinks I have no idea but I appreciate it for these reasons.

Mig-29 was all about performance and little about hardware. Trouble in development with his many "upgrades" and lackuster performance in combat rendered this aircraft with a bad fame and overshadow by the Su-27 and by it nemesis, the F-16.

@@SymeonPhronema Yeah, people tend to compare Mig with F-16 but F-15 eagle is his biggest nemesis, today we can see the performance of the F-15 compared to the su-27 and 35 against migs.
