I think your tournament feel for the game was useful here. You don’t wanna put yourself in bad spots with an otherwise good hand-AK w/ the backdoor, and you were right that the caller did that on flop and turn.

Who started this Villain/Hero crap? I've been playing poker for around 25 years, never heard this stupid term used until I guess the "gamer community" grew up and leaked into poker. I know it's not a big deal, just makes poker sound like it's part of comic-con. Why don't we say the guy in seat 5, or the opponent in seat 5 raised me,ect. Like normal adults.

1. DePaulo is too damn funny, and it’s especially entertaining when he flashes that actually is really studied and knows his stuff in between all the jokes. 2. Good video about the perils of poor sizing. 3. You’ve screwed yourself with your turn sizing on the river, but either way this river bet is an absolute fold all day long. The only way it’s anything other than a fold is if you have like massive stacks left and want to consider bluffing, and I’m not sure if that’s good anyway. Not well played after the flop.
@ryanjones41502 жыл бұрын
According to the training materials on CLP, you should tend to bet a flop like this when you have the backdoor, and check when you don't, otherwise you have too many bluffs, BUT that's more for a dry flop, when it's so wet and connected, it seems like you should check so that you don't get blown off of your equity.

Am i alone laughing uncontrollable at this hand?? Wonder who played it worse, hero or villain?? What was villain thinking when he re-raised the flop? What was hero thinking to call a re-raise with A high?? Why did villain checked the turn?? If he thought he was good on flop, he was good on turn. Why hero bet the turn?? Is he turning his A high into a bluff?? On flop hero presumably called with AK high thinking it's good. Then we have classic value-bluff bet by villain at the end. Most comedy hand I ever saw. Wonder if it was played on zynga poker 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Back doors are often checked on the flop so that from IP facing turn probe you are not only calling hands that can never improve to a stronger hand. Nice content!
@RyanDepauloDegenerateGambler2 жыл бұрын
You mean so when you do turn the back door flush draw after checking back it allows you to have some? So in other words balance? I ran it and it was more bet than check to my surprise but still total mix and what you are saying makes sense if I understanding correctly

so im pretty confused that caller thinks that he has a big range advantage on QT8ss. is it just because it's hijack vs button so ranges are wider?? idk i feel like villain will have all the QT, JT, J9s, Q9s, 88, etc. that hero can't ever really have. which brings me to the flop action. if hero really does have a big range advantage here, he should be betting much bigger, no? i guess my point is that on this texture a small c-bet just doesnt feel correct to me like ever. personally id check back this texture with 100% of my range on the flop (some small stakes exploits against specific opponents aside) bc i feel like i don't have a range advantage and want to try to realize my equity. but if i did feel like i had a big range advantage here, i think it'd have to be more like 75-125% pot given the coordinated nature of the board.
@aceking53602 жыл бұрын
He checked the turn for either pot control or to be deceptive and to get the call on the river. Remember he did this
@RyanDepauloDegenerateGambler2 жыл бұрын
Villian played this very well I think
@jamesharrison54202 жыл бұрын
I think shove or check turn is best at the point where he was at, the half pot on turn and if checked to on river with only half pot left gets called down too lightly. If the turn was a heart I would shove with my equity, without heart maybe just give up and try to river A K or J. DePaulo calling was awesome man he's so NY and goofy but his poker insight is underrated. This is why I love poker though like Ryan said everyone can have their own view or play and be plausible. Love the show bart!

AKhh is probably a mix between x and big bet- I hate the small size
@RyanDepauloDegenerateGambler2 жыл бұрын
Well it’s a 3 bet pot remember. I think you right if srp IP vs BB but Solver has it when I ran it as 33% check 66% bet small size actually on flop IP with these 3 bet ranges but I think you right and I agree almost always bet big or check but you get lotta folds and some value by betting small still with AK. I thought solver was gonna have more check than it did
@jeremiahlafrance96042 жыл бұрын
The small sizing at the end also seems like a blocker bet, specifically with something like QJ. He knows that he is probably calling off and if he checks the river you can value bet AQ, AA, KK but would be unlikely to raise those hands here. There is no time that someone takes this line with KJ or AJ/A9 spades. Even an awful player wouldn't do that.

Is the 10 not a card the villain could have some leads on in theory? Since they'll have hands like JTs & ATs in this line and hero won't? Seems like a reasonable choice with QJo, you set your price vs AA/KK/AQ, and you can even get value from some hands like AK.
@RyanDepauloDegenerateGambler2 жыл бұрын
Villian did lead and villain played it very well I think. I don’t think anybody check raises then check calls turn though in 3 bet pot with many Tx those hands are not hands they will have I disagree with you strongly about AT JT Bart and I were saying in practice often this line people just show up with Qx way way more than Tx but the reasons you explained at end are why block bets are good. You get value from some worse and set price. But the lead I think on river is more exploit than because T good for him. It’s not really food for either I don’t think because you don’t generally check raise middle pairs on flop
