A quick correction. At 8:17, you mean sin^2(α) = (1-cos2(α))/2 (one minus cosine two alpha all divided by 2). It's not (1-cos^2(α))/2 (one minus cosine squared alpha all divided by 2) like you said. That's an easy thing to get mixed up since sin^2(α) also = 1-cos^2(α), and you correctly put the cos2(α) into the equation later anyway, so the final answer still ends up being right.

V_0 is simply the value of the potential. It can take any value, so we just give it a name: V_0
