I vote for lore friendly Heavy Weapons. Nowhere near enough of those in the vanilla game.

Almost all of these shotguns have been a staple in my load order, Hunting shotgun which is the biggest need in any playthrough of Fallout 4, Same with the Caravan Shotgun and the Single Shotgun. I also would reccommend "Cranky" as it's another early game shotgun based mod with minimal mods, but having some neat animations and custom sounds for the cranking. Plus, it is similar to a Pipe weapon hence why I think it's lore friendly as well. Hell, the makeshift Shotgun and improvised Grenade launcher mod is a nice two in one bundle and obviously the Handmade Shotgun is another lore friendly shotgun in my mind as well.

I don't know if this gun was featured in previous games, however if you want an era appropriate gun, the Remington Model 11 is a very good gun. John Moses Browning's "best creation", his own words.

I have a thing with the bullet counted reload for the hunting shotgun where the with a reload the shells move back to where they would be a second after the shotgun itself

I have most of these mods with a few tweaks in performance. As such, there is a "progression" in my shotgun system: first is the CC Handmade shotgun, then the vanilla double barrel. Hunting shotgun and Combat shotgun for mid game and finally the Riot and CAWS for late game

A non lore friendly gun suggestion is bl guns, all the borderlands guns from if I recall either bl1 or bl2, and all the guns that use the same ammo you can mix and match the parts of, so all the shotguns are technically different variants of one gun for example

I use the CC handmade shotgun to fill my void. I have never had good results with the pump action mods. They all glitch or under perform at medium range. I use laser scatter-gun pistols or plasma if I can get them. Oh the Sawn off mod does look good & I have not tried it so thanks for the video I did get one to try.
