I loved the system of Unity. The parkour was amazing, the stealth was so much fun and made you really feel like an assassin, and the combat was good enough to wear you could take on a couple of guys at once like an assassin probably could but it wasn’t too easy to the point where it didn’t matter if you were stealthy or not in a mission because you COULD get overwhelmed with enemies and an assassin isn’t supposed to be a one man army character who can take on dozens upon dozens of people at once. I’m not saying that it was impossible to fight dozens of people at once because it definitely was possible, I did it a few times just for fun but on the harder difficulties it really tried to make you sometimes have to abandon a fight and sneak away like an actual assassin would do if they got overwhelmed. Back in the classic games all you had to do was do one counter and then just instant kill pretty much everyone around you and it really didn’t matter how many people you were fighting.
@scelonferdi2 жыл бұрын
Unity was great from a design perpective, but suffered from it's time and the terrible launvh/execution. It's basically a refinemend of ACs core formular, cutting away all novelties like ships or the wilds whilst improving all main features (mainly stealth, parcour and combat). It's just that back then series fatique really was settling in and Black Flag had shown how innovation can keep it interesting. So a refinement of the OG playstyle totally WASN'T the right thing at the time. Nowhere days it would be utterly great (if executed and launched properly).

As someone how was so pissed off with AC 4 not having a MD protag, and leaving the franchise for a few years, I went to Unity when the game was patched. And nowadays, it's in my top 3 AC games alongside Revelations and Origins. But it's incredible sad that it was the main responsible for why we have RPG full on mythology games because of it. And I can agree 100% that it's the most disappointing thing Ubisoft did regarding AC. Imagine were we would be now if AC Unity was polished and not rushed (there are a lot of cut content that it shows during the story). I really like Arno, he deserved better... Great content as always, guys!

I completely agree with the first point and they should give Edward a trilogy with the same or better thought than the Ezio trilogy. The second opinion they should go back to the older style because it actually took skill to kill your enemies. You're third opinion they need a better modern-day storyline rogue's modern-day had promise, especially the ending cutscene. I also feel that they should bring Connor back so Ubisoft could show that Connor has more depth so fans don't need to read the comic books or books to understand his character better cuz it that's or you have to really think in depth to understand Connor sometimes

I really think they should split the RPGs and AC. Make the former a Templar focused series under a different name (like templars code or something) but in the same universe and return AC to its open world, action roots (ideally starting with the concept of unity). The templar games could then focus on "gentlemanly" (or gentlewhoever) archetypes who work a lot with allies and through Bioware style dialogues, as that plays to the Templar's strength, who better fit this RPG thing. So basically go the Bioware/Greatfall route with lots of intrigue, politics and party based combat. I guess starting with a Knight during the Crusades (ideally not the third one) once again would be a great place to start, featuring a ranking Knight Templar as the protagonists. Further AC adjacent settings could be the rennaisance Holy Roman Empire during the Reformation, something somewhere in the British Empire around the War of Independence (or maybe Latin America?), the Buccaneering period (first part of the Golden Age of Piracy during the 17th century), the Naopoleonic Wars, something in higher social levels during the Victorian Age/Industrial Revolution, Roman Republic (age of the second triumvirate?), not sure about an Odyssey equivalent but Greek antiquity is huge (rise of Macedon? Or maybe Diadochi wars?) and Carolingean Empire or Norman Conquest.
@Jon03872 жыл бұрын
Killing off Desmond was really disappointing after they built him up for several previous games. The modern day story basically went around in circles after that. No closure or follow ups to characters. I’m still disappointed we never got a Unity sequel set in the Napoleonic wars, a sequel with Connor or Bayak exploring the Roman Empire.

One mistake was taking away parkour control. I know it was hard for a lot of people, but it gave people complete freedom and control of movement. The games after revelations gradually decreased that control and now the people that want to pull off cool and skillful moves can’t because of this. Imo there need to be skill in video games because that destroys the learning curve and fun of playing them. What I think should happen is that Ubisoft should have an option before players start an ac game is to switch between automatic parkour control or complete Manual control. That way it won’t divide your fan base and everybody wins.
@DegenerateJay Жыл бұрын
I actually completely agree with you because now it's just pretty much climb up anything very quickly. I thought it was done very well in the Ezio trilogy and then I actually still thought it was done well in three and four but it started getting more and more automatic as time went on. I know everybody loves unity climbing and I still agree it's great, but I do wish there was some more control over that because I feel like if you had that system but with more manual control like the first four or five games, you'd have a pretty perfect parkour system.

I enjoyed the systems of the og ac game's. And I think they changed toward RPG to try and mold there universe/story to a new target audience. Probably because of the heat they got from unitys launch. I concur that a return to form for a few projects in between would be nice. I think Assassins Creed is so successful even though they have had there up's and down's is because the history. Even if you don't like RPG's or perhaps you don't care for the Assassins conflict, there is still the setting/era it takes place. For me, it's: 1. Prioritizing flashy combat over stealth mechanics, which removes any and all incentive or reward to play stealth 2. Open world. The older games were already somewhat repetitive and "MMO fetch quest" in nature. Making open world games just highlighted that painfully. 3. This one sort of ties together with the previous one, but setting these stories in the ancient past before the rise of dense urban environments means that quality parkour really dies an undignified death. Everything else that people usually complain about, I'm actually kind of OK with. For example, the high fantasy/sci-fi Isu stuff is alright when it takes a back seat to the historical setting and stories, so it was only a big problem for me in Valhalla.

Ok but a civil war era old school-style AC game would be really cool. After feudal Japan (which we are thankfully getting a game for) and maybe a WWI or WWII era game, the American Civil War might be a really cool game. Then again, not sure where that CW-era game could take place that would be different enough from the old America we have already seen in Ac3 and Rogue and warrant a whole new rehash of all of that. On second thought, maybe a Civil War AC game is a bit further down my list than I first thought lol.

My comment on Rouge (Dam Spelting) It came out at the same time as "Unity?" was it? the time when everything was transferring to the next gen consoles. I along with many others can not buy a new counsel when it comes out. That along with the same reason I don't buy a new game on launch day. I let everyone else have the fun of the bugs. Back to my point. I felt this was a game that they said "Here have this cheap knock off and enjoy until you can become one of the popular one." They are not making that mistake this time around. I think that's due to the fact that you can't get a PS5. But there are many reasons that Rouge was so underlook. Let me add, I'm 63. I upgraded to a PS after I had been out of gaming a few years (Geneses) was my previous. The first game I got was AC1. I was hooked. I've been a fan all along. Now with Infinity coming out I may be done with it. I'll wait and see, but I don't like what I'm hearing. AC has always to me had a story in the story and we have lost that. I don't see how Infinity will keep it going. In addition they will need to charge you more money if what we are hearing is true. So I hate to say it but Valhalla may be the last AC game I get.

Aiden killing the CEO of Abstergo Entertainment is a big deal that has a huge impact on the AC universe. You can't tell me that it was just an easter egg. I've been saying for years that Ubisoft needs to step up their merchandise game. They have one of the most recognisable franchises in gaming and they don't take full advantage of it. The merch has gone downhill since they shut down Ubiworkshop. They used to produce quality merch and they produce hardly anything now.

I don’t mind the rpg but assassins creed died the minute it stopped respecting the blade. If I stab someone in the neck with my hidden blade or spear then they should die instantly, not shrug it off as if I didn’t just replace their tracheae with a piece of cold metal. Also they got rid of intricate parkour which peaked with unity and syndicate. All it is now is hold this button and you’ll scale a mountain without any clear ledges to grip onto. There is no longer consequences for free roam mistakes in the games. The reason they are so successful despite people hating or disliking it is because of marketing. Who didn’t want Vikings to be the central focus of a game before Valhalla? Everyone wanted to be a badass Viking with a hidden blade and because demos are no longer as popular as they were people had to buy it just to find out it was 80+ hours of the same gameplay loop with narrative elements here and there.

Unity brought much more innovation to this franchise than people give it credit for. All core pillars - stealth, parkour, combat - were either improved, deepened, or outright revolutionized. This game was too ambitious for an annual franchise. The launch was horrible, and Ubisoft didn't handle it like CD Projekt Red with Cyberpunk. They failed to address all the issues Unity had, didn't provide sufficient extra content to convince people that their money was worth it, didn't deliver a sequel with all the necessary improvements, and didn't work to change the public image of the game and franchise. They didn't trust their own game enough to invest in it. Instead, they released Syndicate just 11 months later, and even though it may not have had downgraded movement and other aspects, the timing was dumb. Now, when people give the series another chance, they encounter Odyssey and Valhalla instead. Those are not what these people were looking for.

@tommygossi36772 жыл бұрын
I don't even know where to start. I guess small stuff first, from brotherhood through III, desmond should've been more playable, like have some more things to do than just run around a small area, III fixed this by adding the modern day mission, but they were too linear and simple, i just wished more of his skills were shown. (also assassin's creed III has probably the worst sound design of all, Connor is too loud and aggressive when he talks to people). In rogue i would've liked a little more backstory for Shay, to know why all the assassins apparently hate him for no reason, and also, even though Shay and Liam have been friends since childhood, why is Liam a master assassin while Shay seems like a rookie. Also Chevalier was just waiting for an excuse to kill Shay. We've had 4 games (5 including Liberation) that take place during 81 years of the 18th century, that all relate to each other in some way. Instead of syndicate, we should've had a big crossover game between all of them. like Arno, Aveline, and Connor team up to take down an old Shay who's now the grand master of the Templars in London (if you want to keep the London setting, but in a different time period)
