This was the first “class” I watched in real-time. I had just seen reruns of the previous seasons and I was READY. What really made me excited for this class was the ICONIC “Shark in the water”. This class was a hot mess in the most entertaining way.

I think a lot of people forget that looking like they went to Torrid was the trend during the early-mid 2010's. Vests over shirts, dress suits, short hair, cold shoulders, that was huge. For real! It’s absolutely hilarious. And then we get that parent meeting with Eli and Simpson and Bullfrog, because, duh, Eli streaked, but they have that heart to heart that is absolutely heartbreaking as is but really brings down the vibe. Even though the line “ Yoi did drugs and got naked?” Was pretty funny. That episode has both the funniest and most heartbreaking moment for Eli. Probably. His girlfriend, his best friend, and his unborn child die but him talking about being suicidal hurt. I have not slept in over 22 hours and barley slept the night before so I’m not sure how much this makes sense.

Rewatching the show again as an adult Mo and Marisol are my favorite couple. They are one of very few teen relationships on the show that was healthy. They seemed to make eachother better and I dont get the impression that the characters will have to spent half thier 20s trying to unlearn whatever screwed up shit they picked up from thier high school relationship.

With Bianca you did miss the part where Mrs. Torres grows to become a surrogate mother figure to her in a lot of ways. How Bianca went from causing Adam’s torment at school to becoming closer to the Torres family than anyone else is a wild ride.

The thing I love about degrassi is that while storyline is recycled..since the OG 80s version, they still made it relevant to the time but every character had a similarity to one from a past season. For instance Bianca was totally Alex but in a different way.

This was the class that had a rocky start but came thru in the clutch at the end! 👏🏾👏🏾 Season 12 was the last good season of Degrassi TNG, and was the best season of that newer format (40+ episodes per season). A lot of the newer format was focused on relationship drama..this season went back to focusing on issues. I dont know why they didn't continue that momentum afterwards.....

The grade 9 stuff felt like freshmen drama, the grade 12 stuff felt like senior drama, i loved how they started using the main cast as background people again so it felt like a real school etc. Season 12 just had a great balance...it was the closest thing to "old degrassi" we got since Emma's class graduated

When I tell you the character of Eli shook the table on Degrassi. I didn’t think any male character of the show could take away the fandom I had for Bipolar-Craig, Marco and Spinner, but Eli came in brought a much needed shot of life to the show. Eli & Clair love story was the best romantic pairing for the show. A true SUPER COUPLE. They definitely left their mark because after Eli & Clair the show was begging to be canceled.

Drew and Bianca were easily one of the greatest relationships on the show. They’re up there with Paige and Spinner, Manny and Craig, and Emma and Sean. They’re both attractive and their chemistry was out of this world. They were teen love perfection.

The remaining couples were the unforgettable fan favorites from those generations/seasons when those seasons were airing for the first time. Idk if you watched the show in real time or not but the remaining couples I listed were the IT couples among the Degrassi fan base back in the day. Like many other people, this class was my first dip into Degrassi. I think I was about 10 or 11 when I first seen it because my best friends older sister happen to be watching it when I was over her house one day. Before that I had been pretty much exclusively watching cartoons and Disney shows so Degrassi was my very first deep into real teen tv drama. Since then I’ve honestly been trying to find another tv that gave me the same feeling that this class did and I’ve just never found it. If only I could go back in time and watch it all for the first time again just to relive that feeling.

This class is when Degrassi started to lose me lol. When I went back and watched it all from beginning to about season 13, I really think it started to fall off as a series around s11 but def once class of 2011 graduated. I will say, I like how the complex storylines were more ongoing (ex:Bianca, Drew, Vince and Eli’s bipolar) than in earlier seasons, helps develop characters better imo. I liked Eli and Bianca probably the most. Eli’s bipolar story was very different from Craig and I think that was an important depiction. I don’t ship Eclaire especially after s10 but the monologue is iconic lol. Bianca had to grow on me but she too developed really well. She went from being devious and selfish to having a lot of compassion for others. I would put Fiona up there too but her obsession with her brother👎🏾. I enjoyed her character s10 and afterwards until she got with Imogen. Really wish she could graduated with c/o 2011.
