As soon as i read "The worst episode of Degrassi," was Tristian talking into the camera. I literally threw up in mu mouth and hated it so much that not only could i not finish the episode, I was not able to watch any rpisodes after that. I was thankful the show was canceled.

Before even watching this, the winner was Emma. Shes the only one that stripped for a cause. Lol. Way cooler than the other two.

I think maybe Emma by a tiny bit because she had causes she believed in and stood for. Definitely not Maya.

My personal opinion as to why the original cast tends to resonate better than the later ones is because they are kids first, actor second, and soap actors last as far as their characters go. Later on, you get characters who feel ripped straight out of other shows like Declan, Darcy, Zoe, and Tristan after he lost the weight, so that sense of authenticity suffers. You can tell by Tristan's dialogue in later seasons what the producers priorities were. Somewhere along the way the kids stopped feeling like students I would have gone to school with, so the mandate of meeting kids where they're at seemed to disappear. The priority seems to be keeping up with temporary shows like Awkward or Zoey 101.

on season 4: i didnt really understand why people felt bad for rick honestly. he put one of the sweetest characters in the hospital and then came back to a school where he knew he wasnt welcome because of what he did. sure the whole paint and feather thing and jay framing jimmy was insane and stupid but rick was an abusive asshole and shouldn't have got as much sympathy by the narrative as he did imo

Miles. Miles is my baby. Mostly because I see a lot of myself in him and also because of how much he suffers with his dad and still finds a way to stay strong for himself and for Frankie and Hunter.

I'm a 90's kid but I didn't watch Degrassi until Next Class (and then went back to rewatch ALL of the next generation) so I think I'm a little less biased then everyone else. It's hard to pick a peak season because while one plotline would be good, others would be bad. So instead I'll pick my favorite plotlines and relationships: Sav and Holly J (agreed, power couple. can't believe ppl preferred her with Declan more) Paige and Alex (done dirty by the show. best wlw relationship, I think, since the other two didn't get as much development) Fiona and Imogen (really stupid breakup. Imogen being held back a year was terrible for her character arc. her legacy remains that she was a relatively boring background character outside of relationships) Katie's injury, subsequent addiction to drugs, and then reform as kind of a hippie chick (returning for great sisterly scenes with Maya after Cam's suicide) solidified her as one of the best characters on the show- for me. She wasn't entirely a mean girl, but she had her mean moments. Her morals seemed pretty set (compared to other flip-floppy characters) and her sibling relationship with Maya was one of the best on the show. Maya being both a nerd/musician was such good writing. And her weird obsession with death in Next Class -esp after the school bus incident- really reflected PTSD in a way the show didn't tackle before (i.e. just giving another character bipolar). She was an artsty kid. A weird kid. Smarter than a lot of her peers and that made her stand out. I liked that she stood her ground. Even when she was at her worst, I understood her motivations. Lola and Saad was mega wasted potential. Just when they had the chance to do a really interesting storyline on Islamophobia (extremely salient in today's society - STILL) the show ended. And his pairing with Lola was also unique, as we finally had more characters of different backgrounds (aside from white and black) and the storyline didn't revolve around stereotypes (i.e. strict indian parents) Adam's initial season, dealing with accepting himself, dating, etc, was so good. It was so genuine and he was so genuine. His later back and forth drama with Becky leading to his death felt so uncalled for. I wanted them to make more out of his character. Ally and Dallas. A great couple. Again, wasted potential. Ally's growth on the show in general was so good. It felt so true to real life. Repressed girl going crazy when she was young, kind of coming back and reforming; reaching her full intellectual potential while at the same time, having more understanding relationship with her parents. She should have been the main character of that season. Her story was far more realistic than others.

Ellie was great Seasons 2-4, then they derailed her into one of the earliest "Pick Me Girls"...

Frankie went from being the smart type A kind of girl to another zero personality brainless boy obsessed teenager! Her personality shift made zero sense, it's like the writer gave Frankie's og personality to Shay!

I just decided to "look at" this show a few weeks ago. Im on season 9 and these are a part of my life now. I was too old for this show when it was current. I was 21 in 2001. Its so hood tho. The stories are pretty genuine, its very believable and relatable even tho I was a teen in the 90's. The show writers were 13 so thats reasonable. I think the unintentionally funny parts are my favorites. Im trying to decide if I care about keep watching seasons 10+. I loved seeing the cast grow up and I really like little Clair and Alli.
