It's funny to think that Wheels was the only cast member of the original show that wasn't a trained actor , yet he was the most interesting and compelling character and he was great

Fun fact, he was also one of the ones, along with Stacie Mistysyn aka Caitlin, who was there in the original show. They were called some other names back then like I can’t remember her character’s name, but I know he played Griff on The Kids of Degrassi Street before they went into Degrassi Junior High and he became Wheels 🙌🏻

@@OHeyItsClara To bad Wheels real life was messed up AF. He died living in a rooming house in 2007 and nobody knew about it until 2012. Among other things. Am I the only person who wishes the show could have just continued on from High/School's Out, and maybe followed everyone through college and then even afterward? The original cast captivated the whole damn country. I don't think it would have failed to have had the show go on for several more years. School's Out did so well because everyone wanted more.

No, it ended on a good note. Look at what happened to DTNG because they decided to continue on for a gazillion more years. It could have ended on a high note with Emma, Manny, Toby, and Liberty graduating. However, it's now associated with the show that would never go away.

The sad thing about Neil Hope's life, was appearantly he had seemingly found happiness in 1998, after falling in love with his co-worker at Money Mart, and proposing to her in 2000. Sadly they broke up in 2001, my guess is his alcoholism may have played a part. It's so ironic that in 1992, he made a PSA about dealing with substance abuse, saying it killed his father, and he may have been estranged from his mother, as she often took/borrowed his earnings from the show to feed her alcohol addiction (his Mom became sober in 1998, and died in 2010, not knowing if Neil was alive). Alcoholism runs in families, but it nearly boggles the mind that he died alone in a rooming house in 2007, and his family were not notified until early 2012. It's ridiculous that the CBC, a taxpayer-funded network, could cut him and the cast out of royalties for acting on the show, which made CBC millions of dollars. There should have been a union that took care of him and others.

I didn't know CBC did that, but I'm not surprised. They're awful. Yes, I know all about alcoholism and families, as my parnter of the past 12 years is an alcoholic. On his mum's side, both her parents were, although she somehow escaped it (but she has done drugs, and I think it's perfectly obvious that she has undiagnosed mental health issues, and FAS). On his Dad's side, his Dad was, as well as his aunt (who died of it). There's more family members of his with it, too. It is very sad, what happened to Neil Hope. But after 12 years of insanity, I have no trouble believing that that happened. It just makes sense to me, in a sad way, and in a way in which I could not have fully comprehended before my relaitonship with an alcoholic. This relationship has shown me things I never wanted to see, and put me through things I did not think I could live through. I did not know what I was getting into, and by time I knew, I was so deeply involved.....

Sadly what happened to them is synonomous in Showbusiness. Since 1979 none of the cast Members from The Brady Bunch get Residuals and their Sister Show Gilligan's Island. Dawn Wells (RIP) who played Maryann never got residuals for reruns and Sherwood Schwartz who Co Created both Shows made 90 Million allegedly. Also Erin Moran (RIP), Don Most, Anson Williams & Marion Ross sued CBS/Viacom who now own the rights to Happy Days as well as Queer As Folk (US), and The Brady Bunch for back Royalties. In Las Vegas Marion Ross (Mrs. C) saw a Slot Machine with her face and someone got a jackpot with Three Mrs. C's.

A tv show is not a support group. What Neil Hope needed was to get help for his addiciton. The responsibility was his, and his alone. Like I said, a tv show is not a support group. It's not AA. It's not there to help the actors with their mental health issues. I spent 15 years of my life with an alcoholic partner. I know more than anyone should ever have to know about addicts. Neil Hope had the same problem most addicts to - he refused to get help. He seems like a nice guy, but that doesn't change the fact that he chose to not get help. It frustrates me to see people refusing to make addicts take responsibility for their chocies, and instead blame-shifting it, to, of all things, a tv show. Also, as someone who was hurt so badly that I developed panic attacks and anxiety disorders and health problems from the never-ending horrible stress of being with an addict, I want to point out that there is no doubt that Neil Hope hurt people in his life the same way my partner hurt me, because that is the nature of addiction.

@@Julia-nl3gq I don’t think anyone is saying a tv show is supposed to be a support group. The previous comments were talking about viewers wanting to see more of the Wheels character and what his story was after the schools out movie. Nothing to do with Neil hope and his real life addiction. I’m actually an AA member for over 5 years now. So yes I respect real life situations get in the way of things as trival as a tv show of course. Nobody said tv shows are there to help actors with those issues. You seem to have taken the last two comments way too seriously. Obviously you’ve gone through some personal stuff. I’m sure you know a lot about addicts and alcoholics. Okay, so this is why Wheels is credited in the reunion episode. This scene is probably the most important of all. The only thing that could've eclipsed it woulda been Tessa showing up with Joey's secret love child. But they should've definitely kept this in. While Lucy was hurt, the fact remains that she insisted he - with a beer in his hand - take her to the store. She could've pulled him outside for some space and air, and just allowed things to cool down. How badly does she think Wheels felt about killing someone in the same fashion his parents were killed, which is when his character changed? It was Wheels who walked in to save her from the substitute molester. He also said he'd be a witness if she needed one. People are a bit too self-righteous at times. So in that sense, I guess they wrote her character well.

However, in my opinion, they dropped the ball with Wheels. It's an otherwise perfect show. NPD wasn't really a well known mental illness at the time. But, Lucy's lack of accountability in this matter was borderline narcissistic.

Sadly enough Class Reunions aren't always happy occasions. With Joey he was releasing Seven Years of guilt, rage, and shame. Marrying Julia to try and get over Caitlyn. If she had lived and Caitlyn stayed in Toronto, Joey would have cheated on her no questions asked. Also Caitlyn was with Keith to try and get over Joey as the saying goes "If You Can't Be With The One You Love, Love The One You're With". I don't blame Keith in one sense for being angry. You Fly halfway across the world to see your Fiancee fawn over her ex. Quite insulting. Also Joey may have felt like a loser. He's running a Used Car Lot and Caitlyn is a successful journalist.

@@SuperWolsey Likely cause Simpson took on that role that Radditch had in DNG. Radditch was mostly ok in DNG accept for dealing with the Rick thing. However it was different then Claude’s suicide is vastly different then what Rick did. Claude was much more sympathetic then Rick. Claude had issues but he did not end up trying to kill other people. Rick was a bad seed from the beginning. He creeped on Terri. When she went out with him he smacked her around till she broke it off. She forgave him and he was of course still possessive and violent and then put her in a coma with his violence. Radditch likely realized he made a huge mistake letting him re-enroll at Degrassi. Not just cause the kids obviously would never accept him but because he was clearly unhinged and he never seemed stable minded he had a screw loose in his time on s4. And once pushed to far after being provoked he once again was violent by paralyzing Jimmy and almost killing Emma. Had no sympathy for that character when he died.

I wasn’t born when junior high came out. I was a freshman tho when degrassi TNG came out and fell in love with degrassi watched it all thru high school and continued into college after Emma quit college And made her cameo I dropped after that cuz they re did 90210 with the girl that was on degrassi. Darcy went to 90210. Gosh what’s her name. Oh shenae grimes yeah 90210 remake was awesome. She did such a great job being the new Brenda fell in love with that show. After that I got back into degrassi I was like wow it’s still on. So I watched seasons 7-11 then caught up to season 12 as it was still airing and finally finished all the rest of season as they aired on tv. Season 14 was awesome and the ending was amazing. Then found out about degrassi next class on Netflix. Fell in love of course hshshsh. I wish they would make new ones it’s been a very long time now since the last season was on. I think it’s been at least 5 years now

Lucy was very lucky. She at least got an apology. Alot of folks never got an apology. I wish they had done scenes where Luke apologized for what he did to Shane or have Shane's Big Brother Carl come and apologize for what happened with Emma. Maybe have it be discovered that Carl was Shane's "Real" Father or that Shane was the result of an affair that Mr. McKay had back in the day. Wheels may have done a bad thing but he did have Lucy's back along with Suzie, and LD with Mr. Colby.

Doesn't matter. Lucy didn't know how intoxicated Wheels was at the time. Wheels knew better; and because he got behind the wheel, he's the one responsible for what happened (the injuries Lucy and the other survivors suffered from, and the death of a child).
@TheSimonBOULDER
@TheSimonBOULDER 9 жыл бұрын
Yes, Wheels was responsible what happened, but Lucy shouldn't act like stuck up brude, since she was the one encouraging him and saw the bottle in his hand. That should be enough for a "friend" to not let him drive. It doesn't matter "how intoxicated" Wheels was! It's a very typical case. Driver IS responsible, but it's every friends duty to tell him to not act stupid. So there's no real reason to be mad about. Should be mad at herself too then, but I see no regret there
@madamefluffy4788
@madamefluffy4788 9 жыл бұрын
TheSimonBOULDER Maybe it's because - after the incident - instead of being apologetic/remorseful for what he had done (taking a life and injuring two others - one of them being a close friend), Wheel's was too wrapped up in self pity to give a damn about anyone else but himself - too busy blaming others for his own careless actions (it was Lucy's fault for wanting to go out and grab some chips! It was the kid's fault for not wearing their seat belt! Snake was being mean for not accepting Wheel's phone calls! etc etc) An attitude like that - blaming everyone else for their own carelessness and shitting on people for not enabling them - is going to rub people the wrong way.

needles1987 Read my last comment. Sure,Lucy knew he was drinking; but there's nothing saying she knew just how much he drank before getting behind the wheel (people can and do drive when they have a beer or two in them, and they're fine. Happens all the time and is perfectly legal). Blaming Lucy because she had no idea just how drunk Wheel's was is just shameful. Add in the fact that Wheel's had only been concerned about his own well being and didn't care how anyone else had been doing (including Lucy - one of his closest friends, who was seriously injured due to his negligence). isn't going to improve her opinion of him, at all (especially when his apology comes 10 years after the incident occurred).
