Really well explained, might be hard to follow if it's your first time but watch it a few times and it will make sense. I was so lost the first time I used the degree wheel but it really isn't that hard.

As never seeing all blocks, curious what block is this as I see a balance shaft or something just over the cam sprocket. Over-Square engine use balance shafts like the Buick 3800 but it’s lower in the block. Just never seen this arrangement before. Thanks kindly for sharing.

So when i put the tool on the lifter and find max lift and zero it does my wheel have to be at zero too before i go .050 over and back that’s the only part I’m not understanding
@44special912 күн бұрын
No , the degree wheel on the crank is not at zero before the .050 over and back , when the intake lobe was at max lift the crank was approx. 108 degrees ( 4 : 10 timestamp ) at which point the .050 over and back was done . Finale result was 107 intake lobe centerline .

This is a great video, and easy to follow. Im a machinist by trade and of course what u said about finding discrepancy between your cam in your engine to the cam card is absolutely true. One other discrepancy could be your travel indicator that u are using, ur dads setup was very good, although i prefer using noga mag bases for articulation lol. Your dad has to have some manual machinist background. You are using an off brand indicator for actual measurements, i have severel my self but i only use them for finding zero, when i actually need to measure something their are only 3 brands worth trusting mititoyo which is probably the best nowadays, starrett and brown and sharpe. Starrett and brown and sharpe are iffy if they are new bc they make alot of stuff in china now. But mitotoyo is always reliable bc its been and still remains japan built. But, your so close and im sure u arent worried about it but it could possibly explain the discrepancy you have gotten also. Im not sure what the indicator was that u used in the beginning when finding your piston height, but the one u used on the lifter for your cam was a "phase 2" i believe.

Do you even have certs to even be "teaching" people? Plenty of guys on youtube do far more detailed engine work and get far less views and subs. You also started not long ago which means YOutube is helping you out all while you're playing that tired old narrative of women in automotive which shows you haven't been into cars all that long...
