Very cute. I would recommend getting a slightly longer cage for more floor space and hang ropes and fleece hammocks. Like rats they quite enjoy these.

I wish I had done more research before purchasing my degus, because I listened to the pet store and bought the wrong type of habitat for them. Pet stores will tell you ANYTHING to sell you stuff. They should know better because they're dealing with live animals. That's what gets me angry. And so I recently purchased one of those Critter Nation Model 162 for my 2 degus and they love it. The habitat is very roomy, allowing them to run, climb, and jump. They get tuckered out and sleep in between playing. And of course I have an exercise wheel in there as well.

You need a larger cage, the baldness you see on the back of your one Degu is called barbering and is due to stress and boredom.

having seen this on Gerbils it's either boredom of incompatible Degu's , with Gerbils they didn't entirely like earch other, but they'd tolerate each other. They do like to interact with um you. Degu's are also nocturnal so if your waking them up during the day too much... who knows

Ohhh!! So cute. We have 3 goos and the same type of running saucer, but slightly bigger. I love watching them run on it, with their widdle booties bouncing so fast and cute. Best twerkers and pets.

Balding at breeding time can be because one degu is trying to mate with the other even if they are both males. I had this happen a couple of times the more dominant one pesters the other one. I found once breeding time is over (late winter to early spring) it normally grows back.

One of my degus, Ernie, has the same bald spot. This is due to my other degu, Bert, fur pulling. They had a stressful past history and I am not suprised this happend. Alas, they are both on the mend, living a stress free life now with plenty of room to run around and hidden treats to forage! Check out Degutopia about fur pulling....good tips!

That spinning plate is not good their backs. They run in a curve like position which will damage their backs over time :) The one with missing fur looks like a hybrid of some sort ? :P

I noticed one of Your degus got a bald spot at the back. It's either because of grooming by the other degu or caused by some kind of fungus that may live on the skin. Have You tried to make it dissappear ? Had 4 degus in total, last 2 passed away 1 year ago and one of them had same spot at the back but I couldn't cure that.

sorry for my english, I think your cage is just fine. I had a smaller cage for mine two sweathearts and they didn't get bald. i can't tell you the reason but maybe she/he scratch somewere in the cage. I hope your sweeties are fine ❤❤❤

You should definetily get another one, or maybe even 2 or 3. Degu's need company and they're a lot more fun to watch in a herd. Just don't mix male and female or you will have more of them then you like to very soon ^^ I'm getting degu number 3 and 4 for the same group early next week ;)

Quality is really awesome, but ... seriously, I don't want to be smart-a**ing, but you should get a bigger cage for those two. The german vet office advises a size of at least 100 x 50 x 100 cm for small groups, the bigger the better. Also you might want to consider having several full layers in your cage, which gives a lot more room in total. In addition your flying saucer seems to be too small, from watching the degu run in it you can tell that he is directed right too strongly.

The bald spot on his back is from fighting/playing, Sometimes they just pull out the hair. Its normal, if the spot gets a weird color go to the vet n.n

Wies Schuil if they’re fighting it’s because they need a bigger cage and better care. Rats are the same way like that and will bully each other with excessive grooming and fighting

I think they usually come from trees :-) Driftwood on the banks of the river is pretty good. You could sterilize them with steam if you're paranoid.

I see so many comments about the bald spot and the fact is its nothing to worry about, there are rodents and as such can get a little rambunctious with one another, these two probably had it out a little hard and one lost a tuff of fur in the process, but if you look at the other, it looks like its got some tail hair missing, it'll grow back

FishFossils I was just thinking everyone is jumping to conclusions. I have seen many pet stores that sell degus and sometimes they are in poor condition due to being left unattended in a litter. I remember a litter had a bit of an aggressive brother and the store say a huge fight happened over night. Needless to say the litter were all harmed, luckily the store separated them. But they were still selling the degus, some had lost their fur some had lost their tails. I will add they have vets on sight so they were all treated for their injuries. Just because theirs a bold patch doesn't mean to say they weren't sold like this. There could be a huge number of reasons why. I don't honestly believe this owner is treating them badly. Also just because you see one cage doesn't mean there isn't a play area for them or other places for them. People are just to quick to judge.
