What was most surprising to you when you got your bunny? Thanks for those catching the typos. For some reason I forgot to type “veggies & fruits” after the 80% hay at 1:20. 😅There’s a few typos in there too. I didn’t catch it until it was uploaded…. Then it was a little too late 😩 DISCLAIMERS! In the video, I trim the hay to about 4-5 inches long. Longer ones really irritate Bobby's eye. This doesn’t apply to every bunny. Sifting the hay helps get rids of those small tiny pieces that I may pick up when I put it in their hay feeder, and I also noticed Bobby rarely sneeze afterward too.

He had free roam of the house & the garden while supervised. I used to snuggle him into a woven basket & bring him on the bus to the downtown farmers market-he hopped right along side me with a leash & harness (not that he needed it-he was always hopping along right along side me). They destroy everything that is made of wood in seconds. But: they both have their individual personality and I adore them....last week, I was allowed to pet the girl for 2 seconds and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest 😂 they aren't touchy, they tolerate their medical treatments and I am allowed to walk around inside the enclosure without any harm 😅 that's all I could ever ask for from two shelter bunnies that age.

And when they shed a cardboard box, the shredded stuff gets all over the place
@Ecthelion8423 жыл бұрын
with the pooping, if they are confidant and feel safe, they'll poop everywhere because they don't feel like they have to hide it. And some more dominant bunnies will leave their poop everywhere as a territorial behavior. Basically saying, "THIS SMELLS LIKE ME, ITS MINE!"

If I recall the whole "rabbits love carrots" myth comes from Looney Tunes since Bugs Bunny is so often seen eating them, usually while talking to somebody. This wasn't based on a myth about rabbits at the time. It was actually an homage to a popular film at the time, It Happened One Night, where Clark Gable's character does something similar when he first appears.

oh that's so interesting that you have to go through a process of cutting and sorting the hay!! my bunnies are great with their hay; we can just take it straight from the bag to their litter box and they're all good!! but I understand the concern of smaller pieces getting stuck when they have a flatter face. My rabbit is affectionate, but she HATESSSS having her back touched. It's so cute how Bobby gives you kisses! I'm a big baby so any time my rabbit gives me a kiss I almost break down crying, lol! I was so convinced for a while that she didn't like me but she actually loves me :) Edit: The morning part was semi-accurate for me. My bun gets elated and sprints over to greet me every morning, (she has the other bedroom to herself) and she does her happy circles while i clean her box every morning, lol. She's so precious! Also, bunnies are VERY low maintenance compared to dogs. much easier cleanup--clean the box, sweep the floor, give good bun treats. Don't have to get up and get dressed and go for long walks etc and sometimes STILL have to clean your whole house if your dog destroyed it. Bunnies make such small messes it's actually relieving if you're transitioning from having a messy dog.

I think my biggest surprise having a rabbit was how playful they are. Toys are a must! tv remotes, phones, and anything else they can snag are also their toys, btw. bunny proofing everything is critical. second to that is how much they love a good book. D: Obviously rabbits need chew treats and toys..but if you dare leave a book down it will be their new favorite chew block in seconds, starting from the spine (glue) out. third : healthy rabbit droppings are just..no big deal. no real mess or smell. they aren't sticky or stinky. and they can go straight into the compost or even a flower bed in small amounts. Great vid! I'm so glad you show both that it is work and that bunnies need interaction.. a LOT of interaction.

Finally, a realistic video about what it's like to have pet rabbits. I've recently taken in two foster bunnies and have been educating myself about care, needs, etc. All the videos I come across paint these bucolic scenes of the charmed life you too, can have when you get a pet rabbit. It is so frustrating. Though I love the rabbits I took in, it is a lot of work if you want to do it right and meet their care needs properly. Most of these other videos do NOT show what a mess you have, or how quickly the rabbits chew the $%^& out of anything they can sink their teeth into, or how crazy dusty the space gets, or how you have to fortify your house and its furnishings in order to protect your house and protect the rabbits from harm. Again, a very refreshing video. Well done.

It really is dependent on the bunny in question as they all have such different personalities. I have 1 bunny who is fairly destructive and likes chewing and biting everything he can bit I also have a bun that is the polar opposite, he only ever chews his cardboard house never the furniture and he doesn't even jump on the furniture as he doesn't like heights. He is more like a very tiny dog, no drama and as long as he has food, his favourite blanket and plenty of head rubs he's so chill and he really has the sweetest disposition of any animal I've ever had.

I just wanted to note that while rabbits CAN be very affectionate, different rabbits have different personalities and as prey animals it does take time for them to warm up to you. Some like to cuddle more, some would rather play with you, very few though enjoy being held because for a rabbit the only time they are "held" is when they've been snatched up by a bird or other predator! Each rabbit is unique so please, temper your expectations if you are a new rabbit owner and try to be patient and love your bunnies no matter their personality. Also while rabbits are very good about going in their litter boxes, they can still occasionally have accidents (especially baby and senior rabbits) and unaltered rabbits will sometimes pee/spray as a way of marking territory (which is another reason to get your rabbit spayed/neutered ASAP when you adopt them, if they aren't already. For me there were a lot of little surprises that came with owning a rabbit when I first got one lol. For one, I didn't realize rabbits groomed themselves like cats or that they show affection by licking you like dogs. I also didn't realize how high they could jump! When I got my first rabbit she was maybe... less than a year old? About a year? Not realizing how high they could jump we built a pen using NIC grids and in no time flat she leapt about maybe 3 or 4 feet(?) over the top and escaped! 😂Thankfully we were there when she did it, so we were able to prevent her from getting into anything and immediately added an additional layer to keep her from getting out again. That seemed to do the trick, although it scared me when she attempted it a second time and wound up clinging to the grid! Thankfully she was alright and went on to live a good five or six more years.

Yes 😂😂😂 Soooo accurate. “Bunnies live in cages” “Bunnies aren’t affectionate” Let’s be reasonable lol✨🌸

Exactly!! They're very affectionate. It just takes them time to slowly warm up. :)

Had to laugh when I saw you struggling with the hay in the bag. I use the same brand and sometimes I'm like " wth! Why is this so difficult to grab!? " . In some ways, I'm glad I'm not the only one! 😅

Hihi I totally agree except for food. In Germany we say a bunny needs fresh food like greens, and basically what you can find in your garden, vegetables, a little bit of fruits and hay

Hi! Thank you. For some reason I forgot to finish type the “veggies & fruits” after the 80% hay at 1:20. 😅There’s a few typos in there too. I didn’t catch it until it was uploaded. 😭

Yep, I'm not allergic to rabbits but I would always sneeze from the hay dust! I should have worn a mask.

My bunnies have been so good with their litter boxes they don’t have accidents since they were 3 months old. My bunnies destroy anything they can and eat so much I feel like they get salads then just start their zoomies and binkies then the flops make it all worth it. I love small animals so much.

what surprised me was how much their bites can hurt. i think my bunny mistook my finger for one of his nuggets as i was feeding them to him and took a nice chomp. the bite mark started bleeding

when i had a rabbit, mr angus the flemish giant, he was litterbox trained, pretty much free roam (wires had to be taped up but eh), and had a nice salad of kale, spinach, and carrot greens before bed on top of his favorite alfalfa. he was also a big fan of green peppers. big boy was impossible to get back in his bed for the night without bribes, though.

The affection part is so true, I’ll be doing homework and my rabbit would be crawling all over me trying to get a treat or pets
