One of the best hacks ever for dehydrating veggies, because they are already chopped and blanched. Learned this several years ago and frozen veggies on sale is a thrill for any of us seasoned preppers. These are a great addition to soups, which is the name of the game in a food crisis or emergency. This is the real gold. BTW, I store mine in mason jars with an oxygen absorber and make a label for the jar lid with the date. The humidity in the air can make them go soft again in no time, so I like to get them into mason jars ASAP.

@@nikkig2912 I dehydrate vegetables then pulverize them with a blender or to really make it finer I use a coffee grinder. Reduces the amount of space required for storage plus can be added to other foods easily for nutritional value. Soups can be made. There are several videos about this available on KZbin.

Regular mouth sealer will not seal for me. I stack an extra regular mouth lid on the lid to be vacuumed sealed and for some reason it will seal. The top lid will come right off most of the time but every once in a while they both will seal down. I just carefully pry off the top lid with a sharp pointed knife. I love using frozen vegetables to dehydrate because most of the work is done for me. I'm so jealous that you have an Excalibur dehydrator it's one of my dreams to own one of those. I heard they are so nice to have and work beautifully. Although I'm not complaining I have 2 dehydrators the cottage is dehydrators the kind you just turn on and let it go. One was from a thrift store and I bought the other one on sale a long, long time ago. They still work and I'm very grateful for them they have helped me quite a long time. Hi Teddy.

I always put a lid on the jars when conditioning, otherwise the stuff picks up moisture from the air. I did zucchini chips this summer and they were great for about an hour, but I left them uncovered on the counter to snack on and within a couple hours they were soft and gross. I ended up pitching them since I had already washed and stored my dehydrator. I love dehydrating the mixed veggies and peas and carrots. They come back to life great. I haven't done broccoli. What's the difference of dehydration and freeze dry food?
@essaboselin5252
@essaboselin5252 3 жыл бұрын
A lot! Dehydrated food is just air-dried to remove some of the moisture. It extends the shelf-life depending on how dry you get the food, but the food has a definite change in texture that isn't restored when soaked in water again. A freeze drier is a lot more complicated. Water can't exist as a liquid in a vacuum. The freeze drier will freeze the food to well below zero, then it creates a powerful vacuum. (Far more than a Food Saver or anything like that.) Once that's done, it heats up the trays so the ice crystals start to melt. Since water can't exist as a liquid in those conditions, it immediately sublimates to a vapor and is sucked out of the machine. Freeze dried food has zero moisture left in it. Stored properly, it will last for decades. It rehydrates back to its original state almost perfectly.
