One of the best hacks ever for dehydrating veggies, because they are already chopped and blanched. Learned this several years ago and frozen veggies on sale is a thrill for any of us seasoned preppers. These are a great addition to soups, which is the name of the game in a food crisis or emergency. This is the real gold. BTW, I store mine in mason jars with an oxygen absorber and make a label for the jar lid with the date. The humidity in the air can make them go soft again in no time, so I like to get them into mason jars ASAP.

What's the difference of dehydration and freeze dry food?
@essaboselin52523 жыл бұрын
A lot! Dehydrated food is just air-dried to remove some of the moisture. It extends the shelf-life depending on how dry you get the food, but the food has a definite change in texture that isn't restored when soaked in water again. A freeze drier is a lot more complicated. Water can't exist as a liquid in a vacuum. The freeze drier will freeze the food to well below zero, then it creates a powerful vacuum. (Far more than a Food Saver or anything like that.) Once that's done, it heats up the trays so the ice crystals start to melt. Since water can't exist as a liquid in those conditions, it immediately sublimates to a vapor and is sucked out of the machine. Freeze dried food has zero moisture left in it. Stored properly, it will last for decades. It rehydrates back to its original state almost perfectly.
@The831Z3 жыл бұрын
