I am a 74-year-old white man who just stumbled upon your videos. I was immediately attracted to this video as my wife and I reserve our banana skins for the deer who share our property with us. We harvest one or two deer each year to both trim the population and fill the freezer. After watching for more than a few minutes, I decided that I would really like (no, LOVE) to have this lady as my Daughter!

@@cherylclark2254 Egg shell is mostly calcium carbonate i.e. limestone....you need to heat the egg shells to kill salmonella bacteria, whether you do it in the oven or microwave doesn't matter, same result, its extremely faster in the microwave and the eggshells crush better. If you put whole RAW eggshells into your compost it attracts rats and other rodents and could contaminate your soil with salmonella.....they like calcium, just like they eat deer racks in the wild and bird eggs.

Yes, yes y'all! 🐣 I do a quick rinse of my eggshells right after cracking them open, stick them on a tray (often in the oven) until I am ready to process them. Then, before baking something, I preheat my oven at 225° and my tray of pre-rinsed eggshells bake in the oven for a minimum of 15-20 min. This kills any bacteria in the shells. After they cool, I run them through my Vita Mix dry container into a fine powder. Then they get used in the garden. I know breaking them down like this provides calcium rather quickly because I have seen the change in my tomato plants.

I have also started using a spray of water, a tad of Dawn, spoonful of Olive oil, and a couple of teaspoonfuls of Hydrogen Peroxide, mix it all up in a spray bottle and sprayed on top of the leaves and the bottom of the leaves of my Tomato plants, Green bell peppers, and all my Snap peas, and Sweet peas. My Tomatoes have perked right up after starting this regime, also I habe noticed a somewhat decrease in the looper caterpillar population, somewhat, I still find the buggers occasionally every other day or so.

Did you know that the human body absorbs and can use the calcium from egg shells? So much better than the calcium you buy in the store which is mostly rejected? We use the same process you used and take it a step further. We put it in capsules and take daily. Good for humans, chickens and plants!!!

I do the same thing i use egg shells for calcium. I make 100 capsules at a time with the lil capsule machine. I do turmeric capsules. Dehydrated Orange slices with peel on. Grind and use for real vitamin C.

Banana peels are also good if you strip the inside of the skins off and soak the inner peels in a liquid smoke and fry them up. They taste as good as bacon and they are very good for you. Thanks for the share. Peace and Happy Easter.

Thank You for sharing your experiences with us. I admire your drive and ambition. My late great grandmother had her homestead until she died many years ago at 96. She lived near Ruston, Louisiana. She raised horses, chickens, cows, and a few crops. She was so self sufficient and didn’t go to the store to purchase meat products. I met her when I was 12 and moved near her. I was a city girl from up North and this intrigued me . I truly was amazed at how she made her daily farm chores, including harvesting and canning, look so easy. I truly cherish that experience. I used my air fryer to make collard chips and it was amazing. I did them at 220 deg for about 35 min. It should work well for any dehydrating project, I am going to try bananas and apple chips next.

I do not have a dryer so I chop up into pieces and throw into the compost pile. The eggshells-washed them, dried them, pulverized them in the blender, added to the soil when the tomatoes were planted. I no longer eat eggs or tomatoes though so now that is a lovely remembrance.

I always put banana peels and coffee grounds around my roses. My grandma taught me that over 50 years ago. Her neighbors all admired her roses. This is a great idea. Dehydrated powdered banana peels. I already do the same thing with my eggs shells which I put a little in each planting hole to help with flower production on my veggies etc. I'm so glad you are sharing this at a time when fertilizers may become scarce.

I do not have a dehydrator so just wash my eggs and put them on a metal and put unto the oven and turn it on for 10 minutes to preheat at 300 degrees and when the timer rings, I just turn it off and leave it over night. The next day, I place them in my Birthday Nutri Bullet and crush. I works great. Now the bananas are another story, My little hens love banana peels so I just pull it apart lengthwise and cut 1/2 inch pieces and give them as a treat. I think they might still be fertilizing the garden. I love your channel dear sister, and am learning so much. Blessings to you and yours.

I keep an old cookie sheet on my counter and add the egg shells as I use them. Once the tray is full, I pop it in the oven @ 250 degrees for at least an hour, then I put them into a ziplock bag and crush them. My daughter feeds them back to the chickens and the garden plants.

Organic banana peels can be used in recipes; peel bacon, vegan pulled pork, bread and much more. Eggshell is a very good and inexpensive source of calcium for people and animals.

I give my chickens their shells back, too. Easier potassium for the garden, put a banana peel in water in a mason jar. Let sit for a few days. Pour on plants like peppers and tomatoes. Easier because you can do one peel at a time. ✌️

Wow, I just about 3 days ago told my roommate to start saving the egg shells for me. I have saved and washed the 3 so far to grind up so when I need calcium for certain plants. New gardener here, don't really know what I am doing yet. But anyway, I didn't know I had to boil or soak in boiling water. I guess I will start over. Also just bought organic bananas to do the same thing (make a powder), to add potassium when my plants need them. Thank you for the video, let's me know I'm on the right track. I always wash my egg shells everytime I use eggs from my chickens and then set them out to dry and then when I collect enough I bake them @ 200 for 20 minutes before I crush them. Banana peels are antimicrobial and antioxidant. I boil them, trash the peels and keep the water which I mix with the egg shell powder as fertilizer. I did not think on dehydrating them. Good idea!!

I know I'm late to the party, but you can take a little eggshell everyday instead of taking g calcium. Also, half an eggshell is a great seed starter container. Banana peel goes into my compost. You can actually stick certain plants into a banana and then bury the whole thing and it feeds the plant as it grows. Love your videos because you're "real" and not perfect; only one Person on earth was and hopefully will be returning soon! Bless you all!

Sure it may cost a bit more in propane, gas or electricity to can and dehydrate, but that is more than balanced by the cost savings of putting up your own food and diy fertilizer. Great video!

Just microwave the egg shells for 1 minute, then crush them for either the garden, compost, or chicken minerals. I smash the egg shells inside a closed zip lock bag with my wooden rolling pin on top of a cutting board.

Yes, just what I do. I microwave the egg shells for 2 minutes, then chop them up in my electric chopper. I put them outside for the wild birds that come to our yard. It gives them the calcium they need to lay nice strong eggs to hatch many songbirds in our garden. Without enough calcium they will lay soft eggs, and can become egg bound, and even die from that. They love the extra calcium and grab all the chopped up shells. And yes, they are also good for the garden.
