I think personally cabbage can be a bit overpowering like sprouts to other vegetables, so a nice way to be able to put just a bit in your soups and stews and to not have any waste 😊

Hi Judi 🙋🏻‍♀️ Thank you for your lovely comment ❤️ our leaders are not much better to be honest. The train drivers are on strike, soon other organisations will do to I am sure. I think the whole world is in trouble one way or another. Keep on prepping, look for those bargains and stay safe and healthy. God bless to you and yours to ❤️

Yes they were a lucky find for 10p each. I’m on a water meter so I wouldn’t even be able to grow them for that price, always looking out for a bargain 😀 Thank you for watching by the way ❤️

@@ruthsmith2367 Sorry you don't like it. I make natural medicines from plants and herbs. When I made my brother in law a lotion that healed a skin condition he had on his leg, his Doctor asked him what he had used to heal it, he replied "some voodoo cream my sister in law cooked up in her kitchen." It's been a family joke, and the explanation can be found on my profile. Sadly, people prejudge me before taking the time to read it.

@@voodookitchenmama not prejudging you, just saying I’m not sure I like the name. God’s plants are amazing for medicines, anything natural is better then synthetic. I was looking into making a tincture out of the plantain weed for mum’s sores on her legs, I will try it again, as the creams from the doctor/hospital seem to be useless. What was in yours KitchenMama 😊

Do you know how long dehydrated vegetables can be stored if vacuumed sealed?
@ruthsmith2367
@ruthsmith2367 3 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say Harold lots of variances, but I would say at least 8 to 10 years possibly longer. Keep your jars in a cool dark place. I check the seals every now and then to make sure they haven’t popped open for any reason. Just press the top it should be down. You must wait until your dehydrated veg is completely cold before putting in the jar so no condensation happens inside the jar to ruin your produce. Hope that helps x P.S. my dad was called Harold to 😊

According to a old nutritionist I met this summer, one should never dehydrate over 150 degrees F. It destroys the nutrients. She also said, to save on storage space, you can crush dehydrated vegetables into a powder form and just add a tablespoon to broths to enhance your meals.

Hi Margaret, I go off what my dehydrator says for vegetables. I can’t remember the temperature sorry. As for powders. Yes you can powder and you can get more in your jar, but you just have powder. If you want to have a bit of texture best leave it in small pieces as it dries small and use it in different recipes, then you can always powder later if you want to. That’s what I do anyway 😊

@@ruthsmith2367 So true! I just want the nutrients. Yes, food should look appealing if entertaining or if you need the texture to swallow it. I have no storage space and love soups, pasta and cabbage! I dehydrated spinach lately and added a little sea salt, crunches like a chip. Dehydrated corn was like a snack! So flavorful. Post more stuff and thanks.

@@margaretbauer4126 oh yes sweet corn is fab dried. I was worried it might be to hard and I might crack my teeth but fine to eat without rehydrating. 😋 Stay safe Margaret, thanks for watching x

How long can you store cabbage dehydrated? What is the shelf life?
@ruthsmith2367
@ruthsmith2367 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherrie, just in a jar in the kitchen I would say four to six months, if you put oxygen absorbers in longer. If you vacuum seal your jars like me for long term storage, put them in a cool dark place, they say about 10 years. I have not actually got this far yet. My oldest jar I’ve opened and used recently was made in 2018 for carrots 😊

@@ruthsmith2367 Thank you Ruth. I am hoping to keep m INE for use through the winter, especially if we have to isolate again. I put oxygen absorbers in mine and store things under the bed using bed skirts to block out light.
@ruthsmith2367

@@sherrieash9852 under the bed is great storage. I’ve got rid of some books I will never read and put my jars on a book shelf to, so those are not in a dark place but not in direct sunlight. We call a bed skirt in the U.K. a bed valance. A bed skirt sounds more appropriate a good way to hide what’s underneath to 😊.

@@sherrieash9852 It is best to have your food supply dotted around in separate places, just in case in the event of a shortage someone comes in and steals your supply. Hopefully then they won’t take everything 😊 Stay safe x
