Brad FYI ... I use Parchment paper, instead of the fruit roll up trays I simply trace the shape with a pencil, cut it out and place on the tray , works just as good as a fruit tray and cheaper ... BTW I pay 1.00 a roll for Parchment paper at the dollar tree ... I dehydrated a 10 lb bag of Lemons all night now a mason jar full for iced tea .. Give it a try what the heck

I just did some spaghetti last week. I will say, I'll use my own sauce next time because the sauce I used had olive oil in it. I've learned oils will go rancid after time and not good for long term storage. I loved your video, and it looks like I did mine the same way as you did. Thanks for sharing :) EDIT: One thing I did not do (shame) was weigh it before and after. This will be interesting.

What are the proportions to rehydrate this? oz of product to oz of water? Or do you use a ratio?
@vickimoore7646
@vickimoore7646 4 жыл бұрын
Further down he says ratio is 2 to 1. To me that means like 2 cups of spaghetti to 1 cup of water or it could be 2 cups of water to 1 cup spaghetti. I would try using 2 cups spaghetti to the 1 cup of water...see what it looks like and then add more water if needed. I guess I would try it one time to see how it works...also to see what kind of serving 1 cup of dehydrated spaghetti makes. Sorry for rambling.

Good ideas about the whole spaghetti and tomato sauce dehydrated process. Just off the vid with ScrambledO, and making dehydrated hashbrown spaghetti. Dani Spies and DiggerDan (go see vids) have the hand and table model veggie noodle maker, and making all kinds of squash spaghetti, and other veg noodle products that can then be dehydrated, versus canned. Same for cooked/fried rice, cooked/fried/ refried beans, cooked wheat berries and oatmeal, et al. Dehydrate and ziplock or vacpak and lasts LONG time! With proper prep recipe ingredients and dehydrated beef and chicken hamburger meats or tiny chunks, can make your own LONG TERM MREs with mylar sealable bags! YUM

Just throwing an idea out there. You have chickens. If you have chickens and flour, then you already have pasta stored.(If you need tips on fresh pasta, I am sure nonna would smile down!) Then you could just dehydrate the sauce, and save a lot more room. This would be like turning your chickens into stock futures. :)

Good idea but you never explained how much water you put in for what weight the spaghetti started at . How do you figure that out?
@jaytee2642
@jaytee2642 4 жыл бұрын
It's basic math.... You weigh the spaghetti before dehydrating and after dehydrating. The difference is the amount of water you need to add back in. Example...you have prepared spaghetti that weighs 2 pounds. After you dehydrate it, it weighs 1.5 pounds. When you rehydrate it, you need to add 1/2 pound of water so it comes back up to its orginal weight of 2 pounds. (Those weights are COMPLETELY made up. I just wanted easy numbers to work with when explaining the method)
@essemsween818

I'm maybe being a bit thick, but are you saying that you use the same Weight of water as the difference in 'pre & post' drying? I'm thinking that might be a bit tricky for hiking/camping. Also, do you soak the food, and/or do you need to boil the water, should you boil the Spag Bol? Sorry, Dehydrating Novice here 😤
@Bigfamilyhomestead
@Bigfamilyhomestead 8 жыл бұрын
Learning as we go too- The ratios have kind of needed "tweeking" when we actually did it, that's why I did not give them in the video, it really depends on the dehydration process, the density of the food you used and a lot of other factors, but bet is keep adding water till you are happy ;)

you can't over dehydrated but you can try to dehydrated to quickly. low and slow. too much heat will "case harden" the outside will be dry. The inside will not. that's a recipe for botulism if you try to store it long term. spaghetti probably not so much. But other thicker foods slices... it does happen
