How to calibrate for the D3 (not pro). I'm thinking of buying a D3 as my run-and-gun microphone and don't want to have to adjust my audio levels every time I shoot... so would it be just fine to keep my camera's microphone levels at auto? Will I be making best use of D3 in auto? Also, what is purpose of battery in D3? Is the battery boosting the preamp in the mic that other non-battery plug-in powered mics would not be able to do?

Yea. You could leave it on Auto. The battery gives the microphone capsule a steady stream voltage so the audio coming from the capsule is predictable. Voltages vary based on cameras, the battery negates that.

Would love a deadcat that fits through the front of the shockmount up to the output socket. Also, you can’t just turn it on once and leave it in standby for a day. (Unless you made a change to the original d3 pro) It switches itself fully off after 15 minutes in standby, which means that doesn’t come on with the camera if the last shot was more than 15 minutes ago. I’ve found this to be very problematic, since the led is very dim and not easily seen in bright sunlight. The auto switch off is mentioned in the handbook in small print. The d3 comes on whatever, so I tend to use that one much more than the pro due to the fact that you don’t have to check that the mic has turned on. It always comes on.

Can you fry this microphone with +48? I’m shooting on a C70 but need the mic input for a Rode Wireless Go ii. I have tried the D3 Pro with a few adapters (mini XLR to 3.5) none of which seem to be working… Maybe the D3 Pro can’t power through the adapters? Which is why I wanna try +48…. Just got my very first Deity mic a few days ago (V-Mic D3 Pro location kit). And wow! Just wow! Am I ever happy about my decision to buy the Deity brand. You even included a furry deadcat windscreen as a surprise as it was not listed on the package contents! Now, I am using the Deity mic with a Zoom H5 audio recorder as the mic input on my dSLR is broken. And so I am wondering what is the best gain dial settings in this case. For example, I have set the gain dial on the Deity mic to 6, so should I be setting the gain dial on the Zoom H5 to 1? Or should I be matching the gain (6 on the Deity and 6 on the Zoom H5)? hey guys! I plugged my Deity D3 Pro into a Zoom H1n and it didn't register the mic (using the supplied cable). It only worked when I pulled the cable out of the H1n slightly so that the 'sleeve' was showing. I went with this mic choice after confirming that this was a compatible device on your site so if you could shed some light on this matter I would highly appreciate it!

Hey Andew, I just wanted to suggest for your company to put some professional product shots of your mics like the D3 and D3 Pro on your website. That can easily be copy, pasted to other websites, to sell your products. I work for a photo company and I have been struggling to find some good shots of your mics to put on our website. And I see the same thing on every other major photography website also. Just subpar images of your Deity D mics.

My D3 Pro will not come out of standby when I use it on a Rode Goii, direct into my H4n, or in my Canon R Camera. Only thing I can get audio into is a GH5. Whats wrong?

I just bought the deity D3 pro to have a boom mic set up with my Sony zv1 camera. I’m having trouble getting the mic to work with an extension trs cord. I’ve plugged the trs cord into the provided trrs coiled cord that came with the mic and the mic light does not turn green. It only stays orange when I turn my camera on. Anyone have an idea what I’m doing wrong? I’ve tried 2 different brands of trs 3.5mm extension cords and a trrs extension cord with no luck. I’ve had my deity mic for 3 weeks now but haven’t been able to use it. 😭 any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I have the xt-4 and the deity 3 pro+. When I turn on the camera and it’s plugged up with the cable that came with it in the location kit the light doesn’t turn from orange to green. It stays orange, but when I plug in the power cord into the mic the led flashes red and green whether the camera is on or isn’t. I just wanted to make sure it was working correctly.

For Fuji cameras you need to use a TRS to TRS cable. It has to do with where the ground pin is located in the Fuji.

Use the low-cut filter if you're filming in an environment where there's low-frequency rumble (eg traffic noise from outside) or if you're trying to minimize wind noise. Use the low-cut if you want the effect baked into your recording or leave it off if you want to do it in post.

i have not had my d3 pro for long. maybe a few weeks. i just tested it against my xlr lav mic and camera (z6) mic...WHOA. d3 all the way. i do videos of my wife from about 4 feet away, indoors, quiet room, interview style. d3 pro into the z6. where do you recommend i set the camera gain and mic gain? thanks

Finally, I got my D3 pro. Really a nice mic for my working flow. I Canot tell any difference between this and a double price XLR mic. So I want to ask: Are XLR mic better than 3.5mm mic in normal job ? If I use the D-XLR adapter and xlr cable, Is it the same performance with an XLR mic? (Some guy told me if I want to make serious and professional work, use XLR not 35mm one, I don't know why) Thanks and foegive my poor english, following you all the time~

XLR mics are better but not because they are better sounding. They are better because they suffer less interference over longer cable runs. That's all... if you have a short cable run... doesn't matter.

This is the current problem I’m facing using my Sigma 17-50mm lens with my current on camera shotgun mic!! Roughly the same. Most apps dont give you VU meters in your camera display. Use Filmic Pro

Question: On the D3 Pro, with the USB charging port; can I plug that into the USB power out of my rig's battery pack while using the mic (to use the pack as an external power supply for the mic, and/or charge as I shoot)? I know the battery is supposed to last a long time but I'm just trying to play out eventuality of something like a dead battery the morning of a shoot. Thanks!

Just got mine from Amazon. Waited 2 months but the worth was well worth the wait! Glad I got this instead of the Rhode mic. Ok my question: I have a Sony A7Rii and was told by an audio guy to turn the camera audio levels to +1 and then use my v-mic d3-pro gain as high as needed to get my levels between -12db to -6db. You suggest in your video however to turn the Sony audio levels up much higher. The audio guy I spoke with said you always want to control audio gain at the source whenever possible. So, I'm confused. Can you help me understand or even do some tests and respond? Thanks so much for this concise explanatory video :-)

He's correct but he's forgotten key aspect, what if you need to turn your audio up during a shoot bc the subject your shooting is no longer the same loudness it was when you did your sound check. By leaving yourself headroom on the knob to turn it up later you effective wont have to dive into the menu again. If you set it all the way to +20dB out of the gate and you still need more you'll be diving into the menu to add it, which is what our gain knob was designed to overcome.

@@DeityMicrophones ah yes it's obs studio 👍 for example now I'm using a shure mic which comes with software to regulate the sound. I don't have that option on the deity so it picks up some hiking humming background sounds sadly

Hi there, i've just got my D3 pro. I tried to use it Canon 600d but it seems it doesnt recognize it. Any suggestions?

Do I have a bad mic? I bought the V-Mc D3 Pro and used it a couple times. Went to charge the battery but it won't charge. No light comes on at all when plugging in power.

Are u using it with a USB-Type A to Type C cable? It must be this type of cable

Sonically speaking, is there any real difference between the D3 and the D3 Pro? Aside from the removable battery and the lack of DB controls (not a problem for me, since my camera's external mic options has them), what's the diff?

I just purchased the D3 Pro and wonder what cord should I use to plug into my Tascam DR-22 recorder? I tried the provided TRRS and it doesnt seem to work. Should I be using a TRS?

Yea. You need an old school TRS cable.

Go into your system settings menu and turn on plug in power.
