Del Ray, Alexandria Streetcars

WETA Neighborhood series looks at Del Ray, Virginia--a suburb of Washington, D.C. The old Washington, Alexandria & Mt. Vernon Railroad streetcars are featured in this segment. This company later became part of the Alexandria, Barcroft & Washington Company (AB&W) which was one of four predecessor companies that were bought by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in 1973. The AB&W workers were represented by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1131 which merged with ATU Local 689 in 1973.
