I met Del in Nashville in 1960 when he was about 25. He brought a song to me to find out if i could arrange it and have it published. I told him that I get about 500 requests a week to do that, but I would look it over and get back to him. I had him put his name and phone number on the back of his music sheet. After I had looked it over and doodled on it, I decided to arrange it and get a few of my guys to play it just to see how it sounded. I liked it and called him the next day and told him I didn't know where he was, but he needed to comeback to Nashville and sign a contract so I could publish it, but only if he would sing it. He agreed. The name of the song was "Runaway."

Who knew??!? I never knew that THIS SONG was written BY Jeff Lynne, the genius of ELO, FOR Del Shannon… I absolutely LOVE ELO!!
@hadavisjr Жыл бұрын
Jeff is singularly responsible for resurrecting the singing careers of George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Del Shannon. To a certain degree, he put Tom Petty on the charts better than he'd ever been. The Master of All Time is simply amazing!

Every time I have to lie it tears me apart Every time I see you cry It takes a piece of my heart I know that I said never never walk away from you I know that I said I'd always be there my whole life through I got to walk away, walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away Every time I make believe it hurts more and more There was a time I couldn't see, now I know for sure I know that I can't help it if it hurts you when I say goodbye Don't know why it has to be the way it is, I tried and I tried I got to walk away, walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away Walk away, Walk away I got to walk away, walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away Walk away. I got to walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away I got to walk away, walk away Walk, Walk, Walk away Walk away. ❤️

@@mariaharitou7642 According to Wikipedia Dell Shannon, Tome Petty and Jeff Lynne were the writers of this song. Backing vocals were Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty. The style of this song is reminiscent of the early days of ELO.

i love this song though this video infuriates me because in the middle of a great sounding concert they play a tape of this song....not just a backing tape, the live band basically mimes to a tape, none of the live sound is mixed in..... what a really weird thing to do. you can see that del and the band feel pretty goofy miming to a tape though it is still priceless to see.
@danagboi4 жыл бұрын
3:05 Can't tell here whether he is lip synching this second last epic song of the concert or whether another vocalist has filled in for him. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Such a forgotten talent and such a sad thing that he didn't love himself as much as we loved him. R.I.P. The full concert is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX2ZmWiXZ6xod7M
