Now your talking the Gladius is an awesome weapon and you can't go wrong with Del Tin of Italy, I have their migration period sword which I purchased a long time ago when Museums Replicas sold Del Tin weapons, the Krupp 55 blade has yet to rust and will go through a small tree with ease and the flexibility is insane.

Very happy with my gladius! The scabbard that came with it looks similar to the windlass version. Although the Del Tin scabbard is unsurprisingly a lot better in quality.

I have had a few gladius and they are awesome. While it is not my typical area of expertise this video reminded my why this sword is a badass and will be replacing mine in the near future. Thanks.

That must be the only Del Tin gladius video on the web - well done! Would have been nice to see the pompeii next to it. If you don't mind me asking, why the mainz model with the scabbard isn't offered anymore?

Why is it black? I received mine today, on the pictures it looked greyish. I'm new to swords but that was really disappointing

Would you be out to try the Deepeeka roman spatha by chance? I've heard less than favorable things about the company's stuff, accurate to a fault but tend to be too heavy and are just really good wall hangers. I'd like to see it in action and decide for myself if that's true

This is sort of a proof of my theory regarding the "multitool" aspect of the Gladius. Why equip a soldier with a burden of tools. Use one for most needs. It's a weapon, axe , knife and butter spreader.... ;)....I contend that the Gladius was one of the reasons that the Roman Army was renowned for its military engineering. It was their Swiss Army knife.
@jeremiahsmith7924
@jeremiahsmith7924 10 ай бұрын
Wtf are you talking about? The gladius was used for ONE thing, killing the closest person in the opposing formation. Roman gladii (plural of gladius, which just means sword btw) were far more lightly built than most modern reproductions, and they were made for fighting, not chopping wood or any of the stupid crap you listed

I totally agree and would love to buy a gallic and segmentata but am hesitant to go the online route not being able to see if it's the cheap kind or if it even fits, being a bit of an investment to begin with.. Also, I'm trying to find out what the thickness/profile of the Mainz Gladius is to try my hand at forging one..

I think it should be clear that doing all this wood chopping usually voids KOA or the Manufacturer's Warranty.

Yup, it's to show how much a blade can take. NOT recommended to people who purchase blades from us

+Kult of Athena just to be fair to all your customers, say it or post it in the video. Because when we do it and the edge and tip roll we hear: "sorry you voided the warranty by striking a non soft material" :-(

Well yeah, if you fuck it up voluntarily, it voids the warranty. Thats usually how it works with warranties as a rule.

I can't understand why deepeeka doesn't temper their blades actually am starting to think they want US to temper them *that's what the description in one of their spathas said*
@scarecrow2097
@scarecrow2097 8 жыл бұрын
what i dislike about Deepeeka though is their Greek stuff, they offer the most Greek related stuff but ALL OF THEM are junk. completly unhistorical even the two bone handle xiphoi they sell latley that are supposed to be copies from actaull Greco-Italian xiphoi have A LOT of inaccuracies that if you put them side by side with the original you can spot them immidiatly. Yet their Roman blades are good enough but the fact they dont temper them is mindblowing!
@kultofathena487
@kultofathena487 8 жыл бұрын
Actually, most of Deepeeka's blades are tempered including the Roman ones. Some have a bit of a soft case hardening and others have an excellent spring temper. We'll do some Deepeeka Videos soon. You may be surprised at what they will actually do. We don't offer the sharpening on most of them just because it takes too long. Most of them will take a good edge, but they are quite thick so they take at least 3 times as long to sharpen as most of the other blades we do. To justify that we'd need to charge $40-$60 for the sharpening, which is a lot in relation to the costs of the swords.

Yes, I have 3 deepeeka Greek helmets, 2 lightly tested with a short wooden club and the steel helmet withstood but the brass helmet split along the braze, but when I dropped my good Greek helmet on a sharply angled stair it only dented, no splits. The Deepeeka helmets look nice but are way to big to be functional. Ferran Garreta for the win!

Why do you use so many silly Kung Fu movie flourishes when handling swords in your videos? I imagine that if one handed a ten year old boy a sword and asked him to perform some cuts, he’d dance about like you. These make you difficult to credit as a worthwhile reviewer.
