Recently, The New Yorker has dropped the use of the word 'ensure' and replaced it with 'insure'. To ENsure is to make certain of something To INsure, is to provide compensation in the event of loss. Two entirely different words with different meanings. But now, instead of "she would ensure him a place in society" We get "she would insure him a place in society" I do not like it.

Your definition of insure literally comes from the word ensure. They meant the same thing long before the definition for insure got more specific to refer to a specific assurance of compensation in the event of a loss.

@@pookz3067 Well, I don't know about the etymology of these words. But currently, we have two words each with its own specific definition. We don't buy ensurance for our possessions. The word we use in general parlance is INsure. So, by the same token, we shouldn't use the word INsure to express certainty.

Very important talk and very poor audio -- even with headphones 'on.'

Important? No. Listening to talks with Noam Chomsky on the history of U.S. propaganda, the ways in which the political establishment controls society, neo-liberalism, and how the hegemonic social structure protects itself, that would be important. This is not important. The most revealing thing he said is that The New Yorker is a commercial magazine. It is not there for the general population to read in order to find the truth about how our really society really operates. The New Yorker's main role is to protect that truth from the public.

You're hard of hearing by the way. I had no problem with the audio.

"You're hard of hearing by the way. I had no problem with the audio." Surely friend, I assure you that you need not be bothered whether I am hard or not.😝

You're ambitious alright, but I wouldn't call it Godly. I wish you value truth-telling as much as you do with ambition.
