Research may seem to show that vitamin K is not necessary at birth. The blood of the baby including the stem cells may need to get to all of the sites in the body of the baby to help heal any little areas that may have been damaged during the birthing process. If the baby were to have a massive internal bleed- that might be the time that I might think about vitamin K. I think that there is possibly a reason why some think that vitamin K needs to be given that may even be financial. When delayed cord clamping is practised it might not be wise to give Vitamin K. This could possibly contribute to jaundice. I am not sure- it needs more research probably. But thanks Harrogate and District for this great video. I think that this is a very important issue. It was a lovely video by a sensible midwife. Refreshing to see. It has helped to restore some of my faith and trust in midwives. ..since some of the recent changes that we have seen in midwifery and nursing in these last few years.

When the baby suckles this may help in the delivery of the placenta.
