Have you even watched Delboy's videos? He spreads misinformation because he has no experience and is the pinnacle of amateur. Look at his recent videos on fibreglass, he has zero idea what he's doing. He also cannot accept that his shoddy workmanship is shit and chocks it up to 'looking asymmetrical' when it's fucking wonky.

Dell's use of fibreglass is what 1st made me watch del. I'm interested in DIY on my bikes and it's always been a dream to make my "OWN" After watching him do it it really put me off thinking this was normal. Watching your vids I see you point out a lot of flaws, something I've done myself when he incorrectly talks about electrical advice (trained electrician of 12 years here) and some of the other shitty tool reviews where he skews the results As a result I agree with the above poster but for different reasons.

This channel has introduced me to some of the best inadvertent comedy channels on the web. If a non-expert chooses to set himself up as an expert in the 'public square' and prove himself to be an idiot in public, you can hardly blame a person for pointing out the emperor has no clothes on. Laughed so much over this weekend since discovering this channel. Thanks Matt.

Matt has got better and far more constructive things to do than spend so much time defending himself on this. He isn't picking on or bullying anyone. He's trying to stop people breaking there tools, wasting there money, damaging there bikes and unknowingly reading filtered comments after watching DEL video's. I havnt watched that many DEL vids but the how a gearbox works one was the last straw - WTF? I am happy for Matt to pick the gems out of the rest for me. If DEL doesn't want his videos pulling appart he just needs to do a bit more research, show his mistakes, stop editing comments and stop calling adverts reviews. Not being such a victim couldn't hurt either !

Exactly!! It would be absolutely fine if Del simply documented his projects and shared them with viewers saying "this is the way I did it".. But the fact that he offers uneducated 'how to' videos to impressionable people is the problem! As a KZbinr he has a responsibility to provide accurate advice / information, and that's all Matt is doing; calling Del out on the BS and in turn saving us viewers from making costly mistakes because of Del's poor advice.

watching Dels clip between 7:30 - 9:50 , Im absolutely shocked he has managed to gather 100k subs. he clearly / confidently expresses himself as a mechanically minded engineer with so much confidence and a history of knowledge backing up what hes saying.. But to a trained ear he sounds like someone who had a go at fixing his own motorcycle a few years back and got a little over confident and started to film it making it up as he goes along, I really feel sorry for the audience he has drawn in who get notified each time he decides to make something up and share it. There are many people on here that talk nonsense with confidence. the workshop is one of the only channels i can watch and agree with the information because Matt knows what hes talking about, I can feel his pain when he sees someones bills getting paid to tell 100K people that the fluid in a coolant system expands by 30% and we should all move to Evans so our water pumps are better lubricated lol

I've watched Delboy's Garage for years (probably why you came up in my feed) and I will say that I have learned a few DIY metal fabrication tricks from him, not everyone can afford or have the room for a lathe or english wheel. The guy is better than anyone I've seen with the angle grinder. I don't watch the Q&A's and I don't watch his reviews so that's probably why I haven't seen this stuff. I watch a lot of DIY channels so I expect amature work that helps me learn what not to do. When I want to do something myself, like welding, I learn from the professionals (weld.com is awesome) and not Delboy just like I wouldn't want to learn fiberglassing from him since this was clearly his first time doing it. I started watching him when he did rat bikes so I never expected professional work. I remembered the comments controversy a while ago and that's crazy if he called the police on you. Some people don't know how to handle criticism. Talk is cheap, it may be better to make a video showing specifically what he did wrong and doing a project the correct way and compare the results. I've love to see this.

Del is also a liar, he lies about the most basic and unnecessary shit. I suggested he do a collab video with The Missenden Flyer, as he had said he would like to do a collab. He replied "is he a mechanic (etc) then, never heard of him". Then when he finally collabed with TMF, about 6 months later, Del stated he had been a sub of TMF's since the beginning of his channel. For someone to lie about something like that, really undermines every thing about his character and personality.

There are many ways to skin a cat... And many, many more ways NOT to skin a cat. These days, we're lucky enough to have KZbin and Google, where you're pretty hard-pressed to find the wrong ways - But from what I've seen, Delboy makes finding misinformation easier.
@moderatefkr6666
@moderatefkr6666 6 жыл бұрын
Delboy's biggest problem is that he failed to heed Clint Eastwood's advice about knowing your limitations. His persona is that of a humble conciliator, and his words generally convey that suggestion. But in reality he's a little bit greedy, and chooses to present himself as an expert in areas where he's clearly not. His use of language here betrays his true motives: to be respected as an expert or an authority on a subject. His problem is that he doesn't realise that he's frequently contradicting himself: "This is how you do it..." ('Expert' mode), then: "I'm not an expert, I'm just muddling through ... etc" (Fake humble mode) Anyone who has genuine experience in any given subject can generally expound on that subject at will. And an honest man will say: "This is how I was taught to do it. But if in a rush you can get away with doing it this way... etc" The general issue here is with guys. We live in a world of myths, and we are literally encouraged to bullshit our way through life, competing with other bullshitters, and trying to piss higher up the wall. There are loads of jobs I'm not expert at. There ae a few I'm very competent at. In the first group I will list: servicing carburettors (despite working in aircraft fuel systems on the experimental side), bricklaying, boatbuilding and chairmaking. So I will watch ANYONE who's having a go at any of those. In the second group I might include: copywriting, business analysis, intelligence analysis, working wood with hand tools and most aspects of motorcycle mechanics. But here again I regularly watch vids of people doing all these. Why? Because I'm hoping to find someone who knows more than me - from whom I can learn more. So, on the business side I rewatch my old heroes: Sir John Harvey Jones and Steve Jobs. The first was an MI6 asset and the latter the greatest business mind ever. For solid open source intelligence work, there's no one better than James Corbett. He collects the best and works it up better than anyone else. Richard D Hall is also very good. The best woodworkers are the Japanese. I can watch them all day long. There's an American lad who does some amazing restorations, but I watch too many to list. I also read the threads on forums. They're gold mines of experience. The trick is to sift. We all bring a bit of idiot to the party. The trick is to look out for the lesser idiot in others, be honest with your own limitations, and recall the mantras of smarter humans: Marcus Aurilius, Evelyn Beatrice Hall, Voltairine De Cleyre, Tesla, Jobs and of Course Clint Eastwood. ;))

I can't stop thinking about the engine break-in video and your comment on how bogging down an engine puts strain on the engine. I can't figure out how that works. Can you go into detail about what is happening when an engine is bogging down?
@MrKdr500
@MrKdr500 6 жыл бұрын
bogging down is exactly that, the engine is trying to rev but it's being held back (steep hill in a high gear at low revs) which results in the crank & big end bearings being heavily stressed not to mention the piston side wall/cylinder damage that can also happen.
@rationalmartian
@rationalmartian 6 жыл бұрын
Think about the stresses on your legs on a push iron under the same circumstances, in a high gear going up a steep hill. Kind of gives an understandable/relatable idea of the stresses involved. Not perfect, but reasonably analogous.
@brotherpong8494
@brotherpong8494 6 жыл бұрын
I seem to remember Matt briefly touching on this in another video....but it's partly to do with lubrication in hydrodynamic (plain) bearings. To put it very simply, the combination of high load (throttle) and low rpm's gives you the thinnest oil wedge between the bearings and journals. That layer of oil is what keeps the two surfaces apart, but since surfaces in real life are never perfectly smooth, the thinner the oil film is, the more likely that surface irregularities can contact resulting in wear. A thicker oil film gives you a larger safety buffer. Lower load increases the thickness (has to do with how the journal 'rides' in the bearing), as does higher rpm's. There's much more to it of course, like oil viscosity and temperature, and things you can do with the engine oil to reduce wear when oil thickness gets low (antiwear additives), but load and rpm's are something you can control at any time with your right wrist. Search for 'hydrodynamic bearings and oil film thickness' as a start. Be warned, most of the stuff is engineering speak.

Review of the condition of the ZX7 or Hyabusa as to what problems to look out for and then a series on perhaps restoring a machine/practical upgrades, rather than unnecessary modifications cosmetic or otherwise; ‘ratting’. I’m sure more people would be interested in watching this and save the rat bike skills for Pinewood Studio’s.

I always think its strange how hes a bus driver. Nothing wrong with that. But if your a qualified diesel fitter. And interested in engineering/welding/mechanics. Would he not be happier being a hgv mechanic. Upto him i suppose what he does for a living ive just always found it strange.

LOL he never did. There was a link to 'backyard tinkerers' Delboys channel was on the Dicovery UK site. Dels video were meant to be on Discovery Turbo - real late night but I don't think it got that far and then Dicovery turbo was changed and the whole thing was dropped.

Good video Matt, looking forward to part 2. I'm not normally one to watch to'ing and fro'ing videos about stuff like this but DoucheBags Garbage put out some shoddy and potentially dangerous information, albeit nicely produced (almost makes it look believable!) and I think it's important for there to be a voice on the contrary to what he says, giving out the correct info. I wholly standby DungBalls right to freedom of speech (or anyones for that matter) but I also disagree with his spread of misinformation and lies (the EBC comment he made was a particular gem). As an engineer myself I find it infuriating that he dishes out this rubbish, but what concerns me is how many of his subscribers (judging by the positive comments on his channel) lap it up as if it's gospel and will possibly go on to carry out dangerous workshop practices and I'm sure many other people share that view. DelicateBoys comments aside, could you please do a video on how to help prevent corrosion on a motorcycle (or link me to a previous video of yours, I did look but couldn't find one). I currently wash and wax my bikes, then apply a thin coating of ACF-50 on the areas that are prone to rust. This has worked for me so far but I would like to hear your take on it as I'm sure there's probably a better way. Cheers.

I'm a bit upset Mat. I saw the title of the video and thought you were inviting comments on a new copper grease and resin Delboy. I was excited to see just how big this Delboy would be and how you were going to get copper grease and resin to form this Delboy. Were molds going to be used or were you going to free form it from chicken wire and old tee shirts. Alas.

Well to be honest I watch his videos because I had bought a bike and wanted to know how to do the basic things like wash the bike, adjust the chain and stuff like that, and to be honest most of the time I ended up watching most of the Indian videos to get the answers I needed go figures, but initially I did find the bike build video series he was doing quite interesting and it never occurred to me that most of what he was saying was bullshit, because I am someone who didn't know better (when it comes to engine mechanics and how engines work), when it comes to bikes, however I do know the basics about engineering even though I am not a trained engineer, sorry if I come across as ignorant but I am not stupid, you don't need to be a genius or sorry a trained engineer to know when fibre-glassing you are supposed to make master mold from the initial sculpt, and from that master mold cast a just for instance a version of the tail in a more substancial material like plaster and paris or plastic, then from that cast version create the inner mold and outer mold for the tail unit of which will be used for the fibre glass, then fibre glass each half using a vaccume chanber to suck out all of the air and cure over night, once dry glue each half together and finish, then your pretty much done but hell none of that he does it on his bench, I mean the fucker will be riddled with air bubbles (and just so you know, that is what I would do if I was to try and fibre model something not necessarily with fibreglass to get a relatively good result, I would imagine to fibreglass wouldn't be much different from that for the professionals) yet I still watch some of his videos even though I realise most of his practices are shit some of what he is doing is some what interesting to me and entertaining even if I woud have done it differently.

I probably would have put copper grease on the back of brake pads otherwise. It's a safety thing. Or saying acf 50 isn't good and to use the water based stuff, you could wreck someones bike... do whatever you want. he did try to close your channel and sent the police to you, that is out of order.. del could have a nice little channel if he just put up his hands and said things got a bit out of hand let's start over

Well this is a rant and a half.. I see smokings not helping with the stress levels.. :D TBH and I said this on one off Delboys videos I actually like the look of that bike he's building, its just the right amount of funky for my liking.. But unfortunately is also the wrong amount of funky going into it.. So why not wait now until he's 'finished it' and then just give us a few specials or build your own bike but done with a bit of foresight and knowledge.. As for me I'm starting to get a bit bored with the whole drama it's like a pair of kids bickering trying to get there parents onside, I don't mind the style of these type of vids though, the r3 video for example was good but the stuff with delboy.. meh. It's dragging now. It's time to, turn the other cheek Mathew.. then Jesus would approve.. xD

None of us can be perfect or correct 100% of the time but going by what I've seen, my opinion is that Del is more to blame here for the following reasons: 1. Stating that EBC tell customers to spread copper grease over their pads in the first place. 2. Trying to shut down another mans channel. 3. Getting the Police involved. 4. Altering/deleting the comments under his videos. If he feels that Matt is so wrong in criticising the way he's showing/teaching others how to do stuff, why hasn't he done a dedicated video in reply?? When I first stumbled across a Del video years ago, I assumed that he were a fully trained bike mechanic, overall the content looked professional and he did come out with a good tip or two that I had previously learnt from a seasoned mechanic. After seeing the clip on TV, where he admits that he's a bus driver, it makes me wonder why he gave up being a diesel fitter then?
