Thanks buddy, painting is just practice, it's a really basic skill and the secret is patience, I always show the clock between coats because everybody re-coats too quickly and that's where the runs come from... a wet coat will normally be stable in about 1/2hr specially if it's a flat surface, so knowing where to stop and walk away between coats helps, but once again, the real trick is leaving it long enough... what you think is 15mins is normally about 5mins! So have a clock within view and try it for yourself, you'll be surprise how easy it is mate !

just a quick tip,for a perfect rattlecan paint finish,submerge can in jug off semi boiling water for 5 mins before spraying,you will get perfect coverage with no overspray misting as your paint is thinner,with the added bonus of no nozzle cogging,you get max use of your paint also,with a fantastic finish

As a tip to save some time perhaps. If the body part is already nice and flat (which I think the silver parts were), you can actually simply use some scotchbrite to scratch up the surface. The advantage of this is that there is no risk of oversanding, and its much easier to work with. The paint will also adhere fantastically.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, great tip, and perfect for existing paint... I did have a little sanding and flatting still to do, plus a few runs from the silver to get rid of in this instance, but you're dead right, 3M Scotch Pads rock !

nice paintjob Del! That bellypan up-side-down in black color, just turned in to something Darth Vader'ish. Maybe name the bike Tie-Fighter ha ha

Looking good 👍👍👍, I saw the finish line reflecting in the belly-pan. So curious of what the finished paint scheme is going to look like. ( can we get a hint?). Have a great weekend 👍🏍😎.

Hey buddy, I wish I knew myself, the only thing swimming round my head is all of the options, candy colours, mixed with black, maybe gold, skulls, demons, Giger babies, all sorts of things, I'll just have to make a decision nearer the time, but want it to stand out, that's for sure!

Nice finish. Wheres all the lumpy bits? Do you clean the spray can nozzle between coats? Cheers.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Cheers buddy, I invert the can and blow it out between coats, then clean the nozzle, the nozzle cap itself invariably clogs up about 2/3rds of the way through the can, so I keep a fistful of spare ones and swop it over, works every time !

Superb finish from cans, shows it can be done if you take care with the prep. Levers next, hope you are thinking about Honda ones to get rid of those ugly cheap looking plastic pots and smooth everything out up front
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Ok buddy, good points, I may have to go with some ugly cheap plastic pots just for now to get it on the road, there are some awesome products out there from companies like Oberon and Rizomi but daft money so I'll have to wait till I've bought my lathe and maybe I could make one lol !

@@Moonfleet41 I was going for more along the lines of the fully integrated reservoirs as fitted to CBR1100 blackbird, very neat. But like you say might be fun to try and create something as you have with the rest of the build, 100%custom then and thats got to fit with the rest of the bike. Keep plugging away its looking good.

If you have a humidifier, or a source of steam, venting some into the room will pull dust particles out of the air. We use this approach sometimes in IT when recovering hard drives.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, probably good for dust, but humidity is the last thing you want when you're painting, as it'll make the paint bloom... thanks for the suggestion though,

I thought a fighter was supposed to be a rat born of necessity. A dropped older sports that's not worth spending much cash on but still mechanically sound. Stick a set of clip ons on it, whip the fairings off, chop the tail, wire up a cheap set of lights, spray it with a rattle can with no regard to runs, just paint to be functional and stop rust. and jobs a good un. This is taking years to do what should've been done in a couple of weekends. Spending far far too long on how it looks. princess behaviour.

(P) Wow Del... she's gonna be a very different animal in black than she was in silver. Looking at the bike, I always had a "vibe" of light fast and nimble in silver....In black she's gonna look very aggressive and dark, and BADASS. I have no idea what bedliner coating looks like but I'm sure you do. Would having the finished belly pan "vinyl wrapped" in clear after the paint offer any protection? All the best to you and Penny P
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher, bedliner is an epoxy rubber coating that's practically bullet proof, it's designed for coating up truck beds, literally like it says, to stop them getting scratched when they're loaded up... it really is that good... but it's heavily textured usually, like a flexible wrinkly rubberised finish, so was only thinking of using it down the front strip and underneath, leaving the concave sections on the sides for art work... ! Long time to get to their that so we'll see! Have a great weekend, D&Px

Hey Del, just a quirky mate..... How does that paint cope with fuel drips..... Any issues that you are aware of? RSMB
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 6 жыл бұрын
Ayup buddy, it's absolutely fine with fuel just as long as it's totally cured and that's the problem, cos it takes almost 3 months before it stops smelling of paint, so if you could be careful for the first 2-3 months, it'd be fine long term... Hope you're feeling better mate, keep in touch, D&Px

Much respect Del, I have watched every video on this bike, but I am about to jump on the "this bike will never get done" band wagon. Im sorry brother, but Im losing interest, tying not to, but I cant help it..
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry you feel that way mate, and thanks for your engagement with it, but I'm sure you wouldn't want me to just abandon it, specially after you've watched every one! I guess it shows an engagement that you wanna see it done, which I appreciate, but once it's done, then that's it, and I try not to wish for the end of things... I've followed projects through with the people I watch, hot rod and muscle car builds, and something that comes along unexpectedly is the odd feeling of disappointment when the car drives away and the videos I've been enjoying for a year, or more, just stop! Anyway, I made a vow to the viewers that I would see this through, am sure you can see that every video is progress, and I'll stand by my word and finish it no matter how long it takes. Perhaps it would be a different feel if you saw every video as a stand alone project, like I do... this project was to paint a nose cone and belly pan and the one loaded up this morning was to fabricate a bracket for the tick over adjustment, clean up the slave cylinder and paint the sprocket cover... all progress in the big picture, but still stand alone work that could've been done to any bike... Thanks for your support, and appreciate your feedback mate
