Even in New lore she can still hear the brackern. She's bystanders their pain at her own discretion where ad the ordinary piltovand have no choice in the matter. There's a difference.

@@pixel-rageunbound1935 In her lore before the retcon, her stage was originally a machine that was supposed to suppress her gift of hearing the emotions of those around her, but her gift also let her communicate with the Brackern in the crystal powering that machine. That Brackern helped her master her gift and pretty much told her "don't suppress your gift, use it." and that is why the machine was rebuilt into one that would instead enhance her gift rather than suppress it. So yeah, the Brackern that's powering her stage basically told her to use them in order to spread their song. Which gave me, upon reading it for the first time, vibes of that Brackern planning on having active Brackern like Skarner hear their song and follow it to Piltover. But no, some people didn't even read her lore aside from the "can hear the Brackern inside the Hextech crystals" and immediately understood it as her actively torturing the Brackern while happily singing, because of her using her stage, when she can hear the, actually non-existent, tortured cries of the Brackern inside the crystal powering her stage and that she would actively hurt Skarner by singing the song of his people to him.
