Dude, you are one of my favorite KZbinrs. Your videos are always well thought out, well executed and just packed with information. I've never seen one of them that I didn't like, and I'm pretty sure I've seen them all. Between you and Cliff, you've cost me hundreds of $$ and I don't regret a penny of it. Hope you're able to continue for a long time.

After several O-Loghts, I've given up on the brand. They're great when they're new, but each one has nysteriously crapped out after a few months. No battery leakage, but the battery won't even come loose. NO better luck with a new battery. Going with Nitecore now; so far so good.

That's interesting. We've got probably 8 between my wife and I, and I've given away a few, and none have died. I wonder if there is an environmental or charging difference. My oldest are probably 6 years old.

@@DavZell I am at Diamond lvl, only a few points away from the next lvl... I have had several Olights crap out on me in the last 2 years as well. ALL of my older Olights are running strong however. Also, I find thast I prefer their run times and power lvls are more than adiquate to all tasks.

What is the name of the red flashlight at the third row? Not the one with the laser pointer, (at 1:21) the tiny red textured one. I realy like it, where can i order one? Great video as allways
@MeZillch3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't remember the maker (got it decades ago) and it is so generic it has no label. Maybe consider a similar E-Gear Pico flashlight instead (not that I think they're easy to find)? I find theses sort of zipper pull LR41 battery lights to be too weak. Photons by LRI are a better bet, IMHO, and they use a battery technology much less likely to leak.

Okay...seeing this, NOW I am truly interested in this little light ! AAA thrower !?! Micro field charger... Hmmmm...
@MeZillch3 жыл бұрын
Three things to keep in mind about using a battery extender: A. Not all threads are the same but both of my Maratac AAA light bodies, including my current "Anodized Aluminum AAA Flashlight by Maratac Rev 5", bought in 2020, seem to work great. My 4Sevens Preon P1 (mk I?) body also works once screwed on tight. Most other bodies, including Olight i3e, use a different thread size and don't work. B. This Maratac "micro searchlight", ha-ha, needs 3.7V (10440) batteries only. The blue one I happen to be using is labelled: "Ultrafire LC 10440 500mAh 3.6V". Standard 1.5V batteries don't work. C. This is not (currently) officially sanctioned by the manufacturer and I can't guarantee safety (including thermal overload/fire, etc.), reliability, durability, etc.. Proceed only at your own risk. Not for children. [I'm now about to add these caveats to my video's notes.]
@spektr540hemi3 жыл бұрын
@@MeZillch Yes, quite right. I was not expecting any other light to work other than another Maratac... Interesting that 4Sevens can/may work. Batteries, yes always a consideration, indeed. Your note, C, most certainly the sole risk/responsibility of the end user/modifer.

GT Nano, by Lumintop, has an extension available for it... May be of interest for folks here, after seeing the "extension" in this video.

GT nano?
@MeZillch3 жыл бұрын
They seem very similar but Countycomm, the supplier, claims a stronger 520 lumens output in turbo mode and it has a notably different knurling on the rear of the battery compartment.

Mom?? Can I go over to Uncle MeZillch's house? He said I could pick a keychain flashlight from his GRAVEYARD OF KEYCHAIN flashlights!!!! ;-) But seriously, you must have, at some point, owned a Nitecore TIKI LE rechargeable flashlight. One of your utube hobbies includes the altoids tin survival kits, so although there are many good candidates for including a flashlight, that Tiki is TINY, has rechargeable usb battery, and many modes for illuminating and signaling.
@MeZillch3 жыл бұрын
Ha. For true survival kits, meaning a kit I keep my fingers crossed I'll never have to open and use (it is a dire emergency kit) I'm convinced non-rechargeable 1.5V Lithiums are the best because they pack the most MAh and by sticking to the same format all my devices (car alarm/starter fob, signaling laser, and flashlights) all use the same thing so all products act as a backup batteries to the others. Others pros are they never leak, they stay fully juiced for over a decade, never need maintenance, and are lightweight. Others like what you mentioned may be more practical in typical EDC use though, sure, but in a dire emergency just-what's-in-your-pockets scenario there is no USB port to recharge.
