YES! Removing social media from your phone is a must. I did it 5 years ago and lose my phone all the time. What is amazing is how you will see other people who are sucked into the matrix no matter where they are. WARNING: Having conversations with these people will begin to increasingly annoy you.

Haven't had Facebook and Instagram for 7 years now. Only KZbin is what I watch, and I only pick and choose videos where I'm learning stuff that I don't already know because my time is valuable. Definitely realized that most social media is a time waster. And you don't get to physically interact with people, and I think society is missing that. And living in a Homestead, I really don't have much time because I have just too much work to do.

Brian, I understand getting everything camera-ready as much as possible. Here are a few suggestions so it's not so overwhelming. 1) Make a list of what you need completed 2) Recruit your small group/life group to do the grunt work and specific things you need done that you don't have to do (like mulch) 3) Frees you up to do what only you can do 4) Have it be a work day or two and feed them lunch or dinner. Group projects make it doable and they would be happy to help. Many hands make a job easier.

I did the same thing with the social media, for the same reasons. And like you, KZbin is my TV. In fact, I only watch it on my smart tv. My garlic looks drowned, too, so it's not just you. It should bounce back when the weather heats up. Hang in there, Brian. As for the gopher, most homestead/farm channels show far more graphic things and you did it quite benignly.

My husband has had internet since it came out. I didn't use a computer until 10 years ago and I've never owned a cell phone. My husband = computer programmer/IT aficionado. It used to drive me nuts to see my him sitting 24hrs a day in front of a computer/ laptop, Meanwhile I'd be doing housework, painting, yardwork, shopping, etc. 10yrs ago our son introduced me to You tube. I put on 20 lbs. I could not believe how easy it was for me to sit on my ass for hours and hours. My entire life I've never been a couch potato. Huge time suck. I'm aware of it and have made adjustments. The first step in recovery process is admitting you have a problem.

I agree with you, Brian. Social media can be a huge time-suck/brain-drain, especially for ADHD peeps. I ignore most of it, too. Regarding the beetles and pill bugs, have you tried dusting diatomaceous earth around the base of your strawberries and cucumbers? We started using it around ours, as well as other seedlings, and it made an immediate difference. We use Sluggo for the snalils and slugs. And showing the dead gopher is fine with me and the hubby. Keep up the good work and have a great day! ☺️

I made it a point years ago to forego social media and cell phones. Nothing is more annoying to me than people who are so addicted to their cell phones that they have to be on them constantly. I truly feel sorry for people who have such pathetic lives that they have to be connected constantly. I truly believe there is something seriously lacking in a person's life who has to have that cell phone like another appendage. Solitude is a blessing. In 2022, I felt a call from God to release the social media from my life, and it was such a relief! I was afraid to do it at first, because I thought I wouldn't have a life without it, but it was so freeing. Since then, I've taken on gardening and baking (way more productive hobbies). Now, that I don't use Instagram or Tiktok, I'm finding myself mainly watching KZbin videos which are far more educational. I'm so glad I got off of social media. (P. S. - I usually cringe at seeing dead animals, and I was n't expecting you to show the dead gopher, BUT it actually wasn't too bad seeing the gopher. It wasn't up close nor was it gory.)

I applaud your awareness of social media and making changes that fit with your intentions. Regarding the gophers, thanks for showing a bit of gopher so we understand how that type of trap works. And I think you’ll find HUGE success with burying the dead gopher in the hole. About 20 years ago, we felt like we were playing whack a mole with one gopher after another until we finally buried it in the tunnel rather than putting it in the trash. This was my mom’s suggestion. It totally ended the goober issue at that house. We used that technique at our next home and it worked again.

I've only been gardening for 3 years and I'm learning to accept that we must work with what Nature sends our way. In your video class please include reminders that there will be stunning successes in our gardens...and some disappointments also. The most important thing is to just keep going and try again. I'm learning that some things just don't thrive here in Central Florida. So, I'm getting better at seeking out those things that will appreciate our hot, humid conditions.

You need a small riding mower (with or without the mowing deck) and a little trailer to ramble around your property lol!

I’m doing the same thing! Having time and more quiet is healthy and social media frequently brings me down. Love your you tube videos!

I only go on FB when someone posts and only on my Mac. No problem seeing the gopher! And love watching Daisy follow you. Daisy and the lambs are adorable!

I feel you on the social media thing. I still have it on my phone, but I admit when I use it it's almost always out of boredom. I have unfollowed a few friends and family members who almost always post negative stuff or politics, so that's made it a bit more peaceful. I've joined some other groups like yours and ones related to my other hobbies, so it's more about other people sharing their ideas.

I was scared you had been bullied! So glad that wasn't the case. Daisy is amazing, the garden is amazing too, don't be discouraged by the way it's been recently. Those plants need just a few days of sunlight and will change completely

actually, the class should be about reality as well. our weather just cooled this week but as our climate destabilizes, we are going to see more of this so everyone needs to plan for it. one of the problems, especially for new gardeners, is expectations. so many people start gardening for a season or two then get discouraged because their expectations were not met. like all things, it takes time to get experience and get in the flow. as for social media, i got rid of them all shortly after i tried them when they began. i only have youtube and that is because it is about learning for me. love the animals 😍

Until you get rid of the snails and other things eating your strawberries, here's a suggestion, I bag my strawberries with those bags for seed starting. They're like a cloth bag. I put a clip on the top of the stem to keep the critters out. So far it has worked. That is a mole tunneling under the surface of the soil. We have them here in Florida. I also don't do social media, I have enough problems of my own, I don't need to be reading about everyone else and their problems. I do have my y tube videos that I watch. I can watch or not watch certain videos. Thanks for sharing your farm animals with us. They are very entertaining.🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Hi Brian, im definitely in agreement with you. I learned KZbin from my three grandsons during the pandemic school year. It's my vice, and im conscious of time spent watching it. Ive learned a great deal from you and so many others. As far as Facebook, i cant stand it. No Instagram ever. Family knows to personally tell me if there's something they would like me to know. I'm sooooo much happier.

KZbin is bad enough. I've not been on a "social media" deal since AOL in the 90's. I love your content and skill! Stay strong brother.

Love Bella, Daisy and the lambs!!! 😍 I got off of social media over a year ago (and here I am commenting on your TouTube channel 😂). No social media is EXTREMELY freeing!!! I did set up, recently, a FB account for only my groups (chickens, canning, freeze drying, etc). I’m hardly on at all but it’s nice to have that resource if you need help. Your video will be absolutely fine for School of Traditional Skills ! Remember, it’s “real life” and the weather does its own thing! I live at 6,300’ in Western Colorado. We had a pretty hard freeze just last week, which isn’t typical. I’m a member of School of Traditional Skills and look forward to your class. A tip about freeze drying your cilantro………move your warming tray temp down to 90 degrees and don’t pre-freeze your herbs. They come out almost the same color they were when you put them in (no browning) and the taste is phenomenal!!!

You made a good decision doing that. I completely deleted all my accounts except for KZbin in December, I missed it for a week or two but now I feel so much better. I’m like you and don’t even have my phone near me 1/2 the time.

It truly is a weight lifted off ones shoulders when getting off of social media. I left Facebook and Instagram July 2023. It has been wonderfully liberating! I don't plan on ever returning to either one. I like my freedom too much! Like you, I continue to have KZbin because I like watching movies. Three years ago we discontinued satellite for television. Now we watch all movies via KZbin, Amazon, Hallmark or DVDs. It's wonderful to have entertainment at your fingertips. But, freedom from bondage to social media is priceless! I enjoy your channels. Hang in there, and thank you for all the work it takes to make them possible.

LOL, I have 1 strawberry. And yes, I too hope that Daisy doesn't try to mount you! 😂 So roly poly bugs eat slugs? That explains why I have none of those, because I have thousands of roly polys. And little ants. Been fighting those with borax and sugar traps, but they are winning.

I had to buy transplants this year. Not a dang thing sprouted. I blame the potting mix. My winter sowed didn't sprout in it either. note to self: don't buy generic full of wood chips. junk!

Enjoyed the video Brian. I i love Daisy following you and when you turn the camera and the little black Lamb, sorry I forgot the name, was standing in the wheelbarrow, I had to smile. Thank you for making me smile today Brian. I needed that. I personally think because of all the social media platforms, people don’t sit and visit, or go outside and be productive, or sit outside and just watch the sunset, because they’re on their phones, I just feel like they’re missing “real” life, “real” interactions with their own family, their neighbors, their world. I think you made a good choice. I even have to limit my time on KZbin, watching other peoples lives and be deliberate to spend time doing things that affect my life and the lives of my family and friends. ❤️

I have to stay off Facebook and Instagram for the most part. I sign on once or twice a month to check in on friends and family but the negativity just eats me up. Even on KZbin I avoid reading comments. So many people delight in criticizing and stirring up trouble. My sister lives on social media so she lets me know if I’m missing something important. 😉 As always sending love and hugs to you and your sweet family. ❤️🤗❤️🌹

First... your garden is absolutely beautiful! Those flowers are stunning (nasturtium?)! Have you tried zoning your spaces by days of the week? It doesn't take care of the everyday stuff like watering and pest control... but it gives you a focus area for the day. I give myself Saturdays off to rest. But I have Seedling Sundays (which is all my potted and shed areas), Raised bed Mondays, Perimeter Tuesday, Wild Space Wednesdays, Orchard Thursday, Food forest Fridays. It's really helped me with the perfectionist paralysis. I do it inside for household cleaning too.
