After boarding the Delhi metro I realised that Kolkata Metro has a long long way to go in order to be at par with Delhi metro in terms of quality of trains, frequency,security at metro stations, and the management of the entire metro system. As an Indian I am really proud of Delhi metro.Hope someday I get to see such a marvel in my city Kolkata as well.

Metro came late in Mumbai, agreed, but due to its Land Acquisition issues, but it has Financial Power to grow rapidly. 3. Mumbai Local Trains Network Length is 427 KMs with around 2.8 Billion annual ridership. 4. In next 2 years, (By 2022) - Mumbai is adding 150 KMs to its existing 11.4 Kms 5. Current Ridership for 11.4 Kms around 100 million, whereas Delhi as 1 Billion for 389 KMs length, almost 2.6 times for efficiency. Delhi and Mumbai both are great, we need both of them to be $1 trillion (NCR & Greater Mumbai) for India to be a $10 Trillion economy in the 2030s.

In fact it is the Life Line of Delhi Citizens who are much dependent upon this mean of Transport, very convenient and life without Metro is unimaginable. It is also important to mention that Announcers Shammi Narang Ji and Rini Simon Ji too deserve appreciation for their impressive style of announcements in Hindi and English respectively in Delhi Metro trains. It is pertinent to mention here that both had been successful News Readers over Doordarshan National Network in the early eighty era and accomplished their tasks in indelible manner which earned them much praise and respect from all. Yes, Delhi metro didn't stop even when there are clashes between the state and the Centre. This is because the model of conduction is such that politics could only mark its presence in terms of money. Rest all comes under the DMRC. Kolkata too may have had the metro network like Delhi if the model was like Delhi metro.

Kolkata metro buys from ICF because it is run by Indian Railways and ICF is also a part of it. Another major reason being the weird track and rake dimension combination which is not manufactured by most other OEMs.

We are not competing on length of metro with china. Length doesn't matter, what matters is connectivity where it is required. The metro should connect important parts of city. Even if the length is 200 km and covers all the parts, it is best. Delhi definitely requires 500km metro but we shouldn't compete

No, it's not the largest network is Shanghai with 676km. Beijing has planned for 1000km metro network and work is going on. You need to understand one thing that our cities have separate suburban and metro lines but in Beijing there is the only metro.

This file hasn't seen sun since 2014, initially Mr Kejriwal didn't approve the 6 lines, then after 5 years of wait he did it in Jan 2019 with few unrealistic conditions. Now Supreme court has intervened, hope things sort out

@Yashvardhan Poddar The lines and routes were decided according to master plan 2021, Mr Kejriwal in 2016 wanted to make unreasonable changes in the routes which if dmrc would have agreed would have been an economic disaster, but it turned out that he never wanted to give funds so he was using his techniques to delay it, and now that he finally agreed in Dec 2019 (same 6 routes as per master plan 2021)after sitting on the file for almost 4 long years, now the center has only cleared 3 out of the 6 plans. So all in all People of Delhi have lost.

Delhi metro need to think about connecting Vaishali and Noida Electronic City as they are just 4-5 km apart and to travel from one to another one has to go through tremendous amounts of stations changing from Yamuna Bank since work between Mayur Vihar and Trilokpuri still not complete and still if it had been operational it wouldn’t suffice long stations route and time. It would make efficient for East Delhiites especially from Anand Vihar side shortening their travel time to Noida and likewise for Noida people going towards same

actually delhi metro is growing in the expense of other cities otherwise Kolkata mumbai or chennai would have better than existing networks, delhi metro gets lions share of all the fund allocated..

@@bprogressive you do understand that DMRC makes profit by the commuters and centre and state funds are miniscule . First these states you aforementioned should make an independent body like DMRC which runs like DMRC and work will be completed slowly . I would also like to see metro in every metropolitan but being envious just for the sake of it is wrong.

What do you expect from a state government which is ruling against the ideology of the centre since the beginning. Just remember IR is an government body which comes under the centre government now being ruled by BJP. They want to take over Bengal. Maybe when they come anyhow they'll do everything to woe peoples heart to be safe in upcoming elections. This is deep and dark politics, not many of us can understand this, I'm not saying this is the sole reason but maybe one of the reason.
