My black and whites are in the oven right now and I am SO excited to try them! When I was a little girl, loooong ago, my dad used to buy these cookies and, sometimes, the Linzer Tarts for me from the coffee truck where he picked up coffee every morning before work. He passed when I was a little girl and these are near and dear to my heart! Thanks, John, for reminding me of this lovely and happy time in my life! ❤️ Wishing you and your beautiful family a wonderful holiday season!

You are one of the very best cooks on the internet. Your pure simple methods makes American Test Kitchen look gimmicky and forced. You saying "but don't live in Manhattan" is so funny to me as an Upstate New Yorker!! We call them half moons 😋

The bakery I used to get them at in Rochester used white buttercream and chocolate ganache. So yummy
@roxxigirl13203 жыл бұрын
Yes, half moons made at hemstrought’s. They are the best with a chocolate cookie and the fluffy white buttercream and the fudge chocolate.
@jessicaharris16083 жыл бұрын
I've noticed a distinct difference between what he made, black and whites and half moons. Half moons from Hemstraughts (sorry about the spelling) or their recipe, are IMO the true half moons. I had black and whites once and they had a beautiful smooth glaze but they were sorely disappointing in flavor, perhaps because I'm used to Hemstraughts style half moons. (I'm also from upstate NY, between Albany and Utica.)

Do you have a video explaining your new kitchen - color and company of cabinets, the gorgeous green oven, counters, etc? Would Ike to see one if you don’t already have one. Thanks for the b/w cookies. Reminded me of a co-worker of mine who had, over 30 years ago, called her favorite neighborhood baker in New York and asked for his B/W cookie recipe which he did. It was for making endless cookies for his bakery. Then she forwarded the recipe to a friend in Portland who cut down the recipe for family (smaller batch) use.. amazing cookies. Can’t wait to try making them! Thank you for your amazing videos and yummy recipes! Biggest fan.

I used to really like these B&W cookies from Trader Joes, and then I tried them from a popular bakery in L.A. (Torrance bakery) where the coating was as crunchy as glass, over a crisp, buttery cookie... Addicting taste and texture, especially after keeping them in the freezer. Now I live up in Washington state and am totally deprived. The TJ's ones no longer suffice... lol
