I remember when I heard this remix one time when this single came out. For years, I would tell people there is a version that sampled the Gap band. No one else heard it. Thank God for KZbin, I was starting to think I had a hallucination 20 some years ago. Lol

I had actually bought this CD at a hip hop concert in the late 90's at the rialto theater in Tucson, AZ. At a time where artists cd's were sold in the lobbies of venues. I honestly can't remember the show to well, but I remember this song. Three years after I had bought the cd I lost it. Then eventually lost copies of the song on mixed cds. I actually had my first kiss to this song. I tried to find this song, but never could find it. When I would describe it no one knew who sang it. Now I can bump it again 25 years later.

thanks for the upload I heard this once back in 95 and have been looking for it since! Jay Dilla was a genius of hip hop and is still underappreciated for his contributions to this thing called hip hop! So glad my first born who is 19 is a fan of Dilla just like me .

Love, love, love this tune. Big up the uploader! Been looking for this mix for nearly 20 years. When i saw it back in 1995, it was called US Remix, so didn't reaqlise it was Dilla. Real Hip Hop!!

Got the chance to see Fatlip, Slim Kid Tre and LA Jay a week ago in NYC and they killed it...saw Imani and Booty Brown back in '06 going on before The Roots and they rocked the show as well. Looking forward to one day seeing them all on the same stage together. Loved this remix just as much as the original and loved how Dilla sampled The Gap Band's "Yearning For Your Love" to create this beat. Happy Birthday Jay Dee and thanks for all of the work you did on "Labcabincalifornia".

It's a song that will always sound great no matter who or how it is sampled! Nas and AZ killed it to that track, but AZ definitely took the spotlight from Nas, and that is hard to do!

WAY better than the original version, which is great too, but nothing compared to this! I'm a huge fan of The Pharcyde and The Gap Band, and that boy J. Dilla can really produce one hell of a track/sample. Another one of the Detroit greats! R.I.P. Jay Dee!

Y’all realize Dilla made the original album version beat as well as this remix, yes? I’m a huge fan of his original beat for Runnin and as a jazz musician, onetime jazz radio DJ and fellow hip hop producer, I gotta stickup for the original and just how dope it is! From a producer’s POV I think I appreciate juuuust a little more than the average listener because I’m hearing what he did to make it. I used to spin the jazz samba LP (Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, et al) on the radio and call attention to the momentary snatch of guitar riff that comes and goes before you even hear it... To be able to hear that riff and then know it has the potential to be sampled and flipped just right (2x from that song- blue album) and then slap those hard ass bass-beautiful kick drums down over those gentle strings...!?? Gorgeous. Took way more skill for him to make that original than it did to sample the gap band riff wholesale, though I love ‘em both lol Why force yourself to choose? Love ‘em both!

That is slick...but I still prefer the original...the Pharcyde was so talented especially Slim Kid Tre...he had a incredible flow and a nice singing voice...this just shows how versatile they were...too bad, the group splintered with only two members repping Pharcyde...I hope they would all come back together and bless us with some new music!
