It is a self governed Island but has close relationships with us in the U.K, so I live in Liverpool and when my daughter was in our children's hospital, there were children who had been flown over from the Isle of Man for specialist treatment. It is a very low tax island that we can move to if we get a job there. They only appoint a U.K person if they can't appoint an I.O.M resident. Just a bit of interesting background. Love seeing you visit my home city of Liverpool and laughed at you not understanding the accent! Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney Islands are similar.

Between Laxey and Ramsey is gorgeous. Along cliffs and through glens and pastures. Very beautiful. And a couple more very tiny railways, Groudle Glen and Laxey mines.

My family on my moms fathers side came from the Isle of Man! My grandfather's parents (and most of his siblings) were from there. We made a trip there a few years ago (before we actually made videos) and went to an archive where we found old records about them. We even found the home where they used to live, and the place where my great grandfather used to work (it was actually at that Castletown train station) and visit both spots. Pretty surreal! As a third generation Canadian, its tough to find out where your family actually came from- so it was pretty amazing exploring the island and having that connection.

I've been so excited for this video! We've only just managed to watch it as we have started a 6 months vantrip from Isle of Man to Turkey and back. Such a shame I didn't run into you on the Strand street or what we call the shopping street in Douglas! So a few things: you explain the Isle of Man's status extremely well! It is confusing, even for the locals! The King, and the Queen before, is also our King. However, the British government isn't our government, we have our own! We are a Crown Dependency, but our own country at the same time. On our passports it says that we are British from British Islands - Isle of Man. The Castle Rushen is great to have a look around and, as a wedding photographer on the Isle of Man, I enjoy photographing in it. However, the Peel Castle (that you had as a drone shot as the very first clip in the video) is older and a lot more scenic although it's in ruins. Fun fact - the Isle of Man Steam Train was the inspiration for Thomas the Tank Engine! There is so much more to see on the island! We have some incredible walks! Especially the 100 mile long Way of the Gull, which highs the coastline of the whole country and is absolutely spectacular! Especially on a sunny day! The TT is what most people know the island for and many locals love the influx of tourism during it. Personally, we don't like the deaths and the injuries and the influx of people that it brings, so we try to travel away, along with many other locals, during that time. Yes, we are called Manx as is the local Manx language and Manx pounds, which although are the same value as British pounds, but are, annoyingly, not accepted as currency in the UK. Another fun fact - the name of the island, the Isle of Man or Isle of Mann, comes from the Celtic god Manannan, who is the protector of the island. The mist that often covers our shores is called the Manannan's cloak, which, as the legend says, hides us from invaders. We do indeed have some strange animals, like the cat with no tail, living here as well as sheep with 4 horns and since the 50's a herd of wild wallabies that escaped the local wild life park during a storm and have made themselves at home here. If you are interested, we have a few videos we made on the island. Our favourites are the autumn on the island, where we also go to see the wallabies kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5mmh56jaJmYorssi=44OZ8fqt4H_tOLPe Also, just wanted to say, we watched your videos from Chile many times over before our last year's 4.5 month long trip there! If you ever go back to the island, we would be very happy to show you around our beautiful island and the best it has to offer, because there really is so much more!

Hi Anna and Trevor, I’ve noticed this post up for several days now but just got to it today. So I watched you maneuver about in the rain, while here in NS the rain just deluged us. It’s the prerequiste to Hurricane Lee I guess but it is “Real Rain”. Even the birds are hiding. Loved seeing you in new territory. Have a question about travelling in rain. Do you actually carry rain type footwear or do you do a lot of waterproofing spray on boots and coats? We are about to embark on our second trip to France and with the weather being predictably wet everywhere this year, I’ve been spraying our shoes with waterproofing in the Hope of trying to maintain semi dry feet for a little bit anyway. We will have two per of walking shoes, sneakers and a pr of leather oxfords. Doing what we can anyway. We are up up and away early next week. Full of anticipation for all parts France and Fr culture and of course food🤗🙂

The Isle of Man as of recent has become more associated with the UK recently by becoming a Crown Dependency in which it has it's own Government the " Tynwald" which Governs the Island with King Charles 3rd has head of state but relies more now on the UK Government

@@peterwilliamallen1063 that's interesting about Brexit. I dunno about that. But until the 80s the Governor sat on the Legislative Council in Tynwald and had a vote.
