This week's video is particularly for people that are moving to Halifax or Nova Scotia, or thinking about moving to Nova Scotia! However, if you're not one of those people, you'll still enjoy the video!
Throughout the video we talk about all the things you might want to know about moving here. Some of the topics we discuss are:
- the main city of Halifax and the neighbourhoods
- the cost of living in Nova Scotia
- the people in Nova Scotia and how friendly they can be
- food and restaurants
- Covid-19 and the Pandemic
- how close you are to beaches in Nature
- The housing market
- weather and climate
- the airport
After walking around downtown Halifax we had outside the city to a community called Musquodoboit Harbour. We booked a rental home for a few days.
Book through AirBNB: www.airbnb.ca/associates/4417...
We also explore the area of Musquodoboit Harbour including the Musquodoboit Trailway, The Harbour Brewing Company, the Railway Museum and eventually to the longest beach in Nova Scotia, Martinique Beach.

For non-Canadian people, Halifax is way easier to get permanent residency than other provinces. The thing is they leave the city and move to bigger cities(Toronto or Vancouver.. etc) right after they get their PR or citizenship.

I first moved to Halifax in 1984 to attend St. Mary's University in the south end. Since then I've traveled the world and lived abroad for over a decade. Of all the great cities I've visited and lived in, Halifax is my absolute favourite....what a city! Since the eighties Halifax has transformed into a truly world-class city. Loads of fine dining, night-clubs, universities, beaches, entertainment....and much more. It has a big city feel because of the massive suburbs and concentration of business, gov't and industry in this capital. It's educated, sophisticated, dynamic and culturally-evolved. This city can be too exciting if you're young and a party-person...It's laid-out for a GOOD-TIME...with the concentration of bars, restaurants and entertainment facilities. A hidden cultural mecca.

The river at the musq. Hbr trail is nearing the end for most kayakers🛶 to the bonus rapids(short), best after rain. Many go miles up steam (around 80kms) and camp along their way down. There are sites people have set up (free-just leave cleaner then you arrived) for camping. Great kayaking adventure for anyone. Another great video ❤️👍

I live in Halifax and I am not sure what to think. I don't like to travel often. Living near the ocean there is not a great idea maybe in summer only as the weather is no good at all. It's the middle of March and it's cold and the winters are often long several years I remember that is typical you get bad weather until May or June it's like Newfoundland though a bit n average warmer. Still both are variable and the swings in the weather at this time are nuts -spring one day freezing winter another snow then back to spring. Still if you want to do stuff indoors it's all right. In many places with good weather you can't go to the beaches because if sharks and jellyfish so it would not really be better so the weather is not that important in the long run. You will not be out often near that ocean I can guarantee you that one. Look elsewhere. Yet if going to sit around pubs is what you want to do there are a few. The service is not that great over recent years though. Also there are hiking trails although you rarely go on them and they are seasonal and many though not all were not that much by the way. The Bedford and Sydney waterfronts are nice and a few beaches on nice days as well. You can visit them on a cold day although don't plan to be out very long that's all and visit in warmer half of year.

New viewer here thanks to KZbin recommendations. I've lived in Halifax for about 7 years now and quite enjoy it. My favorite thing is the biking trails. A lot of former rail lines have been turned to long biking paths. I live in Clayton Park and there's connection to the Rails to Trails path only 10 minutes from my place. You can apparently bike all the way to Yarmouth (south shore of NS) via the trail. I especially recommend renting some bikes at the Bike & Bean in Upper Tantallon and maybe bike to the beaches that are about an hour bike ride away.

Great video, when I recover from the pandemic (it's tough now) I'll send some support you're way so you can continue to bring us great videos from Nova Scotia and the world. Near that railway museum is a really good roadside ice-cream hut. I saw the letters (ar-me) on the lighthouse so I typed "ar-me lighthouse" without the quotes into Duck Duck Go and the first link showed that it is in Brittany, France. I think Cowie Hill is the highest point in Halifax. How the winters have changed--I'll be dating myself but I remember several decades ago it was not uncommon for winters to be cold enough that cars would drive on that inlet in front of your B & B. And that is salt water with strong tidal action! I've been liking your Halifax, and all of Nova Scotia, videos but for the sake of you two and your channel I hope you get to hit the airways soon.

I left when I was nine, so it was a bit smaller than I remembered it - you could actually walk a lot of Halifax. Anyway, would have been great to see the Halifax harbor, The skate park near the Common, Dingle, the bridge to Dartmouth, the two universities, the site of the 1917 harbor explosion, and more. Haven’t finished watching this but it’s looking good so far, I’ve lived here for almost 18 years so I have been to Citadel Hill, etc countless times, but one thing I’ve never done is the Harbour Harper lol that’s still on the bucket list🤣btw, the highest point in Halifax is the soccer field of the BMO Soccer Centre in Clayton Park! There is the saying that Halifax is “built on a hill”, and as you move out of downtown and travel literally “up” to Clayton Park you will clearly see that it is all uphill, and very steep at some points haha. PS: I love it here in Halifax!!! Moved here from Ontario when I was 4 years old so it’s all I really know. I love the whole vibe, it’s an exactly perfect cross between a city and a community. Sometimes you can go around all day without seeing anyone you know, but you can also walk into a random Sobeys or Walmart and see like 5 people you know haha good times🤣

Good afternoon. Can you tell us more about Halifax? In particular, about the weather, work, entertainment, and more
@bobowon5450
@bobowon5450 3 жыл бұрын
@@yuripupynin767 The weather is almost always fantastic (very cold in the winter) theres always a nice breeze so you're rarely bothered by bugs. The people are generally pretty nice (not as nice as rural people but pretty nice for city people). There are ok options for entertainment, halcon is fun, sometimes there are craft shows and whatnot around, but its nothing that crazy. The big detractor of halifax is jobs. Finding a job even if your well educated can be a very difficult task and even if you find a job you're probably not going to be paid that well. Forget buying a house in halifax unless you're ready to shill out over 1 mill for a dump. And apartments typically don't go under 1000 a month with zero amenities included (you don't get those until 2k a month). Anything remotely affordable gets grabbed very fast. Land lords in halifax are also something you want to research before you rent because there are countless horror stories. Halifax is as good as your wallet is, if you live in a duel income household and both of you are well educated. Move in and get yourself a nice authentic halifax Donair. But if you single or looking at minimum wage jobs just don't bother.

Nova Scotia is very beautiful! I grew up here and maybe the cost of housing people think is way better but it’s not!! Only because the wages that people make here is not affordable!!! Minimum wage goes up but everyone that has a job doesn’t get a increase in pay. So people just starting a job are almost making the amount of people that have been with certain companies for 5+ years.

Hey, I live in Cape Breton Highlands @ the Cabot Trail, I love my small acreage and encourage visitors from away, but I also worry that folks that come here will try to change our island way of life. Many of our families have been here many generations and would love to see more growth, I pray the people who come here love it as much as we do and will prosper. Failte (welcome)

Hi Faith. We're really curious what you mean by that exactly. How would folks moving to CB change your island way of life? Most people that are moving there seem to want that slow paced island lifestyle from what I can tell. I believe those numbers of folks moving are quite low too as most people are moving Halifax. I grew up in Cape Breton myself btw. Thanks for watching 😀 - Trevor

Amazing vlog as always! Glad you got to check out Martinique. :) And I agree that Halifax seems to have a nearly perfect blend of big city and nature. Love it here! The Citadel is the highest point of downtown Halifax. There's a rule that none of the buldings can block the view of the harbour from the Citadel at its highest point...though I've seen some of the newer buildings bending that rule a bit. If you're looking for a beautiful hike, look up Duncan's Cove. It's a rocky trail along the ocean and it has a couple abandoned WW2 bunkers there. (Might be WW1). Also York Redoubt along the way to Duncan's Cove is a hidden gem if you want to see some old giant cannons and fortifications. Anyway, keep up the good work! :)

Martinique was great! I meant to say the peninsula when I asked if it's the highest point 😅 A lot of people say the north end (close the mackay bridge) is higher. Somehow we've never been to Duncan's cove and we use to live out that way. York Redoubt is a gem indeed - Trevor

About six years ago ago at a social event, I met a woman who was attending a art college in Baltimore, Maryland MICA She is originally from Ontario province but it moved to Nova Scotia Halifax I got the impression she really liked Halifax, but upon reading between the lines, what I notices that does not have cities with a lot of infrastructure developed for the demand. This is housing roads you name it. A very good example of this is the high cost of cell phone service and the high cost of domestic air travel goalie used to west or West east forcing a lot of Canadians that have to drive in the United States take US domestic flights and then drive back into Canada Ontario Especially around Toronto and the Laurentian Peninsula is already very expensive Halifax Nova Scotia offers a relatively mild climate because of the Maritime environment I’m not surprised I also know that New Brunswick has horse winters than Nova Scotia

To be honest I'm a Newfie with an Ontario number that I have to keep for 2 more years. My wife and I came to Nova Scotia with the intention to move here. We treat everyone with respect. Northern Nova Scotia has been good but Halifax if your are not local,people are cold!!! We went into the tourist information on the water front and they were extremely unwelcoming and did not give us the time of day!!!! Even real-estate agents are not even returning our calls!!!! Prince Edward Island was great people are extremely friendly and courteous.... Maybe it's post covid. We are moving back to Alberta or even B.C. people are friendly and helpful there.

After spending two weeks in Nova Scotia we have decided to move back to Calgary we met a lot of friendly people but if you have a Ontario area code realstate agents about 55% we contacted would NOT call us back even if you called and emailed them several times... It made us think twice....How would potential employers treat us? We were afraid we would go bankrupt in Nova Scotia.. The feeling we got was your free to visit we would gladly take your money but you have to leave.
