I was the bass player for Christian metal band "Overdrive" back when this came out. Had the good fortune to see these guys live several times and we did a couple of shows with them. Live....Deliverence could hold their own with anybody (Christian or secular. Jimmy Brown (singer/guitarist) was just a monster on-stage. Those were the days...

Back in '92, I'd just been saved. I started going to the youth group at a church in LA. Jimmy's brother happened to be the youth pastor (I had no idea, I just liked Deliverance). Wasn't I star struck when Jimmy showed up at a church retreat and hung out with us all weekend! He was kind and fun. Dude even rebuked me (mildly) about something. What he said sticks with me to this day. Grace and peace!

Man brings back the memories. I remember sitting at a church picnic and one of their buddies teasing them, calling them the fattest band in christian metal and talking about them using up all their food allowance in for the entire tour in a week. They rocked live though. Saw them play with Vengeance and Crucified a few times, great shows.

That's what I did 20 years ago when I heard Deliverance and other Christian rock bands. I'm glad someone understands. Besides, Jesus is the one that draws them, we just relay the message, so no matter what "method" is used to spread the gospel, such as drama, music, what have you, the Holy Spirit is the one that draws them in.

I downloaded this album back in December. Let me tell you I listen to it before I go to church. The lyrics get me really fired up for the Lord. Lyrics is what makes music either Christian or secular.

If I see fruits of the Spirit in their lives that Christ lives in them, that's what I look for. I agree with you, no group separations in Heaven. My church is Extreme Life. Spiritual warfare is an image that many of us would rather reject. However, since the Bible uses terms of warfare, it's best that we accept God's imagery, so that we're properly prepared for real battle. As Christians, we're going through more than a mere "struggle" on earth--& it seems that war imagery captures this reality better than anything else. Since it's warfare, God instructs Christians to use a very specific set of armor and weapons in Ephesians 6:14-18

There are a lot of "strict" churches out there. The one I went to didn't have the ruler, but I joked one time by looking for it. HAHA! A lot of the black gospel churches, believe it or not, up here in Chicagoland are very strict!! I had a friend who looked at me funny cuz I wore jeans to church & she said that was a big no-no at her church.WOW!

If you like some of the heavier "black metal" sound with uplifting lyrics, Extol is the band to check out. They flat out rock. Actually, after a few years of recording more mid paced alterna-metal, Deliverance did go back to their thrash roots on their latest release "As Above, So Below". If you have iTunes, you can get it from their store. Tourniquet is another great Christian band to check out as well.

Wow! The lyrics are surprisingly solid! :-D That is awesome! usually, the only really solid contemporary Christian lyrics I find are in Gospel rap such as Flame, LeCrae, and Trip Lee (funny -- before I was a Christian I hated rap, and was purely a metal head LOL). But this is a fresh change. :) Lord bless them. Wonder what they're up to nowadays?

If you think about it, this is the thrash metal equivalent of Stryper's Soldiers Under Command. Deliverance's attempt to capitalize as they did. Don't get me wrong, I love this song, but I'm just saying, it's predicated upon the success of Stryper and the usage of a metaphor to draw a likeness between spiritual warfare and combat.

In response to kilgoretrout1 (CAPS DUDE) I study in australia, environmental science at university and i love hearing lectures/professors trying to disprove christianity because of the complexity and intricacy of the world around us...when eventually they start proving that God does exist! When you study Science, biology etc, you will realise how little you do know, and for every question you solve...about 50 others arise!

I just discovered this album in 2008 when I was deployed in Iraq. Been listening to it ever since. So may disagree but IMO they are just as good and some ways better that the Big 4 well this album at least. Your thoughts?

They sound way too similar for - Big4. Hence I think, they copied. The powerchords and leads - solos. Psalm 23 - is total Metallica. All it takes - is alias filehandles. *psalm23 = \$metallica; makes Deliverance Psalm23- the alias for Metallica. Makes Metallica look guilty. Demon doctrine - Trinity use of Hebrew / English / Greek. All fabricated.
