So in Outlast: Whistleblower, there is a document saying that female employees working at Mount Massive were experiencing psychosomatic pregnancies because of how the Morphogenic Engine interacted with their immune systems and were subsequently transferred off-site. Unfortunately, since the tower across the lake was operated by Murkoff and was being used to relay microwaves to conduct psychological experiments on the people of Temple Gate (via the Morphogenic Engine), Lynn was in reach of the engine's effects and thus became pregnant seemingly overnight. If you look closely at Blake's hands you'll notice that there is no baby (hence, "There's nothing there.") because the engine has different effects on men and women. That is why Blake and Father Knoth can see the baby and Lynn can't. The men are all sharing the same hallucination. That is also why Knoth said that he can't kill the child, that it is "already too strong." The baby isn't physically there so there is no way that anyone can kill it, making it indestructible and thus the "antichrist." From the very first time that you see the "white light" in the helicopter (which is microwaves amplified), Lynn is having a phantom pregnancy and Blake is having lucid hallucinations that eventually rid him of his sanity. Since the Heretics live the closest to the Murkoff tower, they are the most insane while the townspeople are less delusional. If you had gotten all of the videos and notes, you would have seen that Jessica had a rope mark around her neck. This signifies that Blake died during that blast of "white light" which is actually the Murkoff relay tower either exploding or sending some kind of nuclear blast down to Temple Gate to end the experiment. You were right about Father Loutermilch and Blake's guilty, though. Jessica was physically abused by her father at home and was assaulted that night in Blake's memories by Father Loutermilch. The priest chased Jessica throughout the school and then either pushed her or caused her to fall down the stairs during the struggle. The fall didn't kill her, however, and she and Blake escaped the school (hence, "We got out. I got Jessica out. It was cold, but the snow had just started. We'll find an adult and we'll tell them what happened. We'll be okay. It's not my fault."). Of course, Loutermilch denied what happened and continued to hurt and harass Jessica, leading her to hang herself, Blake being the one to discover her body (hence, "She hanged herself before I could stop her."), making him, as stated by Dr. Wernicke in Outlast 1, "a test subject who [has] witnessed enough horror [and is] capable of activating the engine." Like you said, the people of Temple Gate may have been some sort of cult before the experiment which then also makes them capable of activating the engine. Blake's guilty comes in when he knows what Loutermilch has done but he keeps quiet and doesn't tell anyone what actually happened (hence the reversed recording saying, "You killed her. But I never told a soul. I kept your secret, our secret.").

Here's what really happened in the ending: Murkof is testing a broadcast signal frequency on the inhabitants of temple gates (Christians and Heretics). Basically it's a mind control thing and they're using it on the people. It also makes them hallucinate. That's what the heavy beam of lights are. This also explains Blake's hallucinations. So the ending, in which Lynn was supposedly pregnant, was nothing more but the effects of the morphogenic engine. A fake pregnancy simulation of sorts created by Murkof. This was used on all the female patients during Outlast 1 hence why they're all dead. Lynn finally realizes that the pregnancy was fake when the baby was "delivered". Hence why she says "there's nothing there". Blake and Knoth are both still affected by the signal (obviously). So Knoth kills himself thinking that the baby is the born Antichrist. Blake's just like "screw these fanatic cultists I'm taking my son and leaving". Sadly, Blake is already mentally damaged beyond repair and when he goes outside and reaches the exist, the signal booms one last time which basically drives the last nail of insanity into Blake's brain. That explains the last hallucination we see, where he finds Jessica in the cafeteria room and. Blake's basically literally trapped inside his own mind in the past forever. If you read the comics about Outlast 2, it shows that when some Murkof Eggheads find Blake, he's in a catatonic state. The ending's really depressing af when you think about it. Blake has been tormented all his life because he wasn't there for Jessica when the principal accidentally killed her. He's eaten by guilt due to the fact that he helped the principal cover up Jessica's death, making it look like a suicide hanging. He eventually forgives himself way later on in life. Then Outlast 2 happens. His wife gets kidnapped and tortured by crazy cultists and he has to survive them and go through hell and back and gets sexually assaulted by Val (who's trans). He hallucinates so badly about the past. All the tragic moments of Jessica. He's losing his mind. He rescues his wife whom both of which think she's pregnant. They reach the cathedral and 'deliver' the baby. Lynn in her last minute finally realizes the pregnancy wasn't real and says 'there's nothing there'. Blake is so mentally damaged that he thinks he's holding the baby. Knoth kills himself. He goes outside thinking that it's all over, that he has his baby son and that he's going to make it. Then the signal booms one more time and he's trapped inside his mind forever, in the tragic past. It's really depressing.

Creepy fact warning At the very final scene with Jessica- you can see when she turns to look at you she does it in a very weird unnatural way which I think most people toss up to " weird animation or bad animation " or don't even notice it but actually it is completely intended. I actually like the ending. I like that it takes elements of the outlast universe mentioned in the first game, and turns it into this gruesome horrifying fever dream. It takes those details and uses them to put together something so unreal, yet if you know the lore you can piece this madness together into something that actually makes sense, and I enjoy that a lot. It's just such an extreme ending that leaves you speechless with how wild it is. And yet it still fits the universe.

Yeah i was like everyone else shitty ending blah blah and whatever but when i played it myself i firstly understood that it's way way way more scary when u play it haha and when i payed attention to everything the story made sence after that i made some research and i confirmed it !! Everything here makes sence ! Lynn had an psychosomatic pregnancy from the engine's waves also blake went nuts from it and it actually made him see this fake baby ! I'm not sure about these things doe did Knoth do something more to Lynn or did she just got pregnant from the engine cause Knoth says somewhere i placed the baby in her myself that kinda made me think did he do something else to her ! And i'm not sure about Jess did she survive the falling from the stairs and after some time hanged herself or did she die on the stairs and the father made it like she hanged herself these two are kinda confusing ! It's not like the perfect ending but i like this game very much !!! Can't wait for them to do Outlast 3 they confirmed that they might do it !!!!

The only reason people are hating on OUTLAST 2 is because the story line wasn't as easy to follow as the first game's one. But that doesn't mean this game is worse, you just need to actually pay attention to what is happening and then you'll understand what everything means. I personally still think the first game is better, but I can still respect outlast 2 for trying to go for something even more horrifying, with a deeper meaning.

If you dig deeper and listen to theories it's actually pretty interesting especially about the theory that the factory on the hill is using that huge light to test on the people which made them crazy and possibly in a neverending hallucination like when Blake goes back to the school

yeah but the thing is, the clues are hidden a bit too well. the main story is fairly easy to follow but thats not really what works in a quickpased horror like outlast. In silent hill this long drawn out story works because you have time to explore the story when it is presented but trying to pay attention to small secluded details while also running away from everything that moves is not how to enjoy set story imo.

SPOILER ABOUT END: Ok so if you did not get the ending, well, thats prob cuz u dont know enough about outlast one. Weird ass experiments by murkoff, a bunch of bad scientists, were happening The WHOLE village is an experiment, the creepy notes about mircowaves and tech are not villager rantings, those are notes from the scientists. Anyway, back in outlast one, there is a note about a device called the morphogenic engine that said that women exposed to the device were hallucinating, thinking they were pregnant. All these false pregnancies resulted in death. This is the case of Lynn. She did not give birth to a child. She was telling the truth when she said "there is no one there". Blake had lynns guts in his hands. Thats why the pregnancy hurt too much and was fatal. Blake and Knoth saw a baby because there were both so brainwashed. At the end, when the sun exploded, that was a real bomb that killed blake. Which is why the game ends w a child blake, playing w a dead jessica, and blake doesnt wake up from the dream anymore. This bomb is how murkoff destroys the evidence. They had prob gathered enough data and wanted to move elsewhere. Its just a tragedy about how blake and lynn accidentally wander into a mad scientist evil experiment and get completely fucked and killed.
