If you enjoy the nuke cleansing, you may take a look in the tech tree to the solar beam to clean biters from planets with controlled continuous solar flares, like a kid with a planetary magnifier burning ants Recommendation for UPS: once you empty a planet of biters (other than the vitamelange ones), trim it to save UPS. It will delete the chunks that are a distance away than any building. If you re-explore it the terrain will be the same, and if the planet has reached thread 0% (no biters) they will not respawn. Vitamelange planets have biter meteors that spawn a new nest where they fall so for them you will need a planetary meteor defense with at least 12 cannons to reduce de possibility of a meteor landing below 1%.

Additional tip: if you view a planet (ie generate the surface) with biters, biters will eventually overgrow it, so the planet might be all red when you come back later to land there. Delete the surface to reset the biter expansion.

You want the energy beams. Set them to glaive mode, autotarget. Let them run. Nauvis has now confirmed extinction and I could trim back the surface again (save got too large for steam save sync)

Click U. Click planet w/o biters. Bottom right near scan button : confirm.

@@CptBrown9029 What soul8bonce said; it is an icon with a bug on it called "confirm extinction" (hence my usage of 'confirmed extinction' earlier) It will consider the bugs extinct when all spawners and worms are gone, it doesn't care about stray biters)

@@Trenjeska Sorry what I meant to ask was, how do you prevent the biters from respawning after clearing nests? Without radar coverage, they'll respawn nests overtime. Is there a reliable way to deal with this other than to cover the whole map with radars? Or just clear faster than they respawn?

@@CptBrown9029 If you're using the energy beam, it will clear them faster than they can repopulate. Then once the surface is marked as extinct, they won't be able to spawn at all (unless biter meteors hit).

In the updated SE versions you can also use weapon delivery cannons by pinging locations with a remote just like vanilla's artillery. It makes manual targeting so much more fun and fast.

I love the nuke automation! It looks like it's not possible to confirm extinction on planets with biter meteors, as they can always come back

You can mostly clear a vitamelange planet, but due to the biter asteroids it will only ever go down to 1%. Still very useful for building a safe base. Other planets you can clear out 100%, and way down the tech tree you get a really nice toy or two for just that purpose...

I want to use these to clear Nauvis, but the 1% misfire chance has me worried. Also I think I'll need to colonize a uranium core planet to have enough raw material.

Vita planet can't be confirmed to have no biters due to the biter meteors. You can clear all the nests but without the cannons to shoot the meteors down you will get new biters.

Be careful with the automatic nukes, sometimes they target biter attack waves which means your walls might go bye-bye. I know from personal experience :(
