Thanks for sharing this painting journey and pointing out some possible pitfalls along the way. I'm not sure if you have talked at length about how to maintain values in a painting. Anything you can share about color values would be useful to me. Thanks again, enjoyed it as usual.

Thank you Earl. You raise a very interesting question, one which I’m not sure if I have a good answer for,,, Perhaps it’s to determine a general value for an area/shape , and then not to stray too far from it. Usually, most of the values in a realistic image are variations around middle values, and highlights and (dark) accents are relatively small and rare shapes. Sometimes in helps to look at a black-and-white photo of your paintings in progress, and compare to a black-and-white version of your reference to see in things have gotten out of hand. Simplification is often the solution.
