This laptop was my original one from back when I started programming, and this video was super fun to use so I could finally take apart and look at my favorite old computer! Great toutorial!

Hi, thank you very much for this comment!!! To get to a CMOS isn't easy - you will need to remove whole motherboard. For LCD - you will need to remove a front bezel first and you maybe will be able to get to a screws that are holding LCD. It is a little tricky, better to remove LCD from it is place, but you may try to do that without removal.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The touchpad cable was my issue. It's difficult to reattach unless you unscrew the motherboard before trying to reattch the cable. So my mouse is working just fine now. Thanks again!

Hello, I don't have this laptop anymore, so if you will proceed with cleaning - you will need to remove a palmrest and at that point you will be able to access fan with canned air. You may try to clean first like that, be careful do not rotate fan too fast.

There is many things that can be still disconnected and the worst part if you shocked you motherboard, hopefully not. So, you probably have to take apart again and recheck every connection and all parts. Have a good luck!

Thanks, great video. PIA to change the CMOS battery. Looks like you have to pull the motherboard. I just bought one at a Bestbuy action, I may have to return it.

So, this model came in two resolution flavors;1366x768 & 1600 x 900. My current on is the lower resolution but if the onboard video card and monitor dimensions are that the same, one would think it would work. Thoughts?

I thought I can access the fan on the bottom of the laptop, but it doesn't seem to open up to the area where the fan is located on bottom right top corner to access the fan. Are you talking about the plamrest on the top of the computer where we rest hand to type? The fan looks like it is located on the top leftside if looking at it from the front key board when laptop is opened? Thank you for replying to my request. I greatly appreciated. Have a good evening.

Hey, thanks for posting. I had a question. I just disassembled my laptop today to clean the cooling fan and I put it back together but I can't seem to get the touchpad to work. It won't respond at all. The touchpad ribbon was very difficult for me to put back on but, I was sure I had secured it before I clamped the piece back over it. If you could help me in any way, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)

Very impressive Speedy Gonzales. Now the real question is will you take the time to help all the people that are having problems because you didn't take time to explain any of the intricate and delicate procedures needed to insure nothing gets damaged.

Ron Robert Hey Ron, I do really appreciate your comment and honestly, when I just started to make such videos I was planing to talk, but after 3 videos I realized that I am talking about something else. Plus my accent is also ridiculous. Overall this laptop is pretty easy to take apart and if you will watch this video in HD on a full screen - it should be ok. I know how hard it is to take apart a laptop - I was in that situation about 6 years ago. Main rule is to remove power cord. Remove battery. If you are planning to put it back together - screw management is everything - I would say the best way I encountered is to place each set of screws together with the part that is being removed. All cables and connectors might get fragile with the time. So, be careful and you can also watch how to unplug certain connectors (not all of them) in this video on my other channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3fRaqiDqNufmJY Please, if you feel uncomfortable and prefer not to do this - I would say better find a Trusted Technician who can do that for you. I would say trusted technician the person whom you know. Example: I do not fix my car - my friend who fixing cars for a living is my trusted automotive technician. Anyway, have good luck!

Yeah, I shouldn't have been so harsh on you. I was just trying to follow you and when I started tugging and jerking in those plastic strips with the circuits printed on them they weren't popping off the way it looked in the video. I kept rewinding and replaying but your hands are skilled and they moved so fast I didn't see the little details until I had almost destroyed some things. Hey, I'm old and my eyes aren't so good so some of the frustration is of my own doing because I'm too stubborn to get glasses.

I will say that I was able to completely disassemble to the point of removing the heat sink and applying new thermal paste. THANK YOU!! You should suggest that to people when they are that far into the machine. It's the best way to keep the processor cool. As for the dust build up, well, I have found that a strong vacuum hose on the vents surrounded by some plastic or a t-shirt to block nearby open vents works great for cleaning out the stuff that causes overheating. The problem is once they have been overheating the thermal paste is baked, dried up and no good anymore so maintenance with a vacuum before it's getting hot or you might as well take all apart for some new thermal paste on the CPU.

Hey, when I was done I had some flickering on my screen and when I wasn't paying attention it shut off. Then I smelled a burning odor. So I am wondering: A - Does thermal paste give off an odor the first time it gets heated? B - Did I have the circuit strip for the display a little off position? (I did reposition it and it seems to not be flickering anymore) C - Could I have mixed up the screws and put one that is too long into a place where it is causing a short? (thanks for mentioning screw management) D - It's Hot in California maybe some sweat from my head dripped on the motherboard? Another thing is my battery does not seem to be charging properly. It reads 70% even after and hour of use plugged in. If I unplug the power, Kaput - it turns off instantly. The battery was working for sure before I started this. Maybe that's what I smelled burning, LOL! Oh, and no worries. This is my old laptop that I am practicing on so if I burned something up I won't cry, Ha! Thanks for all you do for everyone. Don't worry about poor English we are very accustomed to it. Many of the videos I watch are in poor English but they are still the best ones to learn from.
@johnconnor62188 жыл бұрын
Ron Robert Ron Robert A- Thermal paste does give off a slight odor for about a second or two when you first start the laptop. obviously, different brands, could differ on this, but l only use Artic Silver Thermal paste. B- Yes you must make sure all circuit strips are back exactly as you found them before disassembly. any deviation could cause a short and or cause the display to not even come on, or flicker, or ruin the display. C- Yes, if sweat dropped onto the motherboard, it could cause a short. human sweat also can cause a smell as it sizzles. D- Your battery is likely dead by now. the jump in voltage from whatever happened likely destroyed the cells of your battery. E- Keep on plugging away. most people don't have the balls to open their own equipment, and start tinkering around. l enjoy doing that, even now, but I'm an IT Pro with over 25 years of hardware experience.
