Does the machine run hot for you? I just got mine today and seems like it's a lot hotter than my MacBook. I did the quick test and everything seems to be working fine.

Have one of these, It runs hot and the fan kicks in 70% of the time on very light office tasks, give it a big spreadsheet and that fan gets ready for take off

Could you please make a video to compare it to 5340 2in1 model :) and would be great if we could get your recommendation, will the 5340 2in1 has over heating issues if I decided to go with core i7 processor?
@thunderstar254
@thunderstar254 11 ай бұрын
I did some research: i5 > i7 for slightly less power and noticeable less battery draw, 13th gen > 12th gen for better efficiency and less overheating, and 5440 has the better fan and cooling system

Is there any fan noise with this model? Also, how does the keyboard compare to the competitors' (Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G5, ThinkBook 14 G6, HP ProBook 440 G10)?

These 5540 13th gen are very quiet. I’ve imaged over 100 of these laptops. Our end users like these laptops a lot. Bought my wife 5540 i5 1345u model with WAVlink 100w docking station for use with 49” monitor at 5120x1440, works great.

Lenovo thinkpads if less than $1000 they have soldered memory, this was a hard pass for me. HP’s are good also, imo Dell has better/faster service for repairs than HP. In over 1200 Dells, we only had few bad units that serviced within 2days onsite.

Hi, there is a slot to install a SSD m2 like 990 PRO PCIE 4.0 NVME Samsung? Or it has only the small slot and in case the wwan slot?

Thank you. I just got one and already having a big issue with it .. after installing a few softwares on it, power it off .. it gets stuck at the dell logo and keeps looping ... I have added a password to it (admin password) and now I cant figure out how to get rid of it .. I mean I know what the password is but cant disable it. One other thing that really sucks ass is that I have to be connected to the internet in order to reset that thing

Hi, could you please explain something to me? When you replaced the original SSD with the 1TB one, how did you manage the operating system? Did you have to clone the old SSD to the new one, or is the Windows 11 image stored in the BIOS of the device? Thanks.

Hi @URTechDotCa, I got the same laptop and it keeps freezing unexpectedly. I tried to troubleshoot it with Dell assistant but the software did not find any hardware issue. I even tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers but still the problem occurs. Any solution? I will appreciate your reaction.

@@URTechDotCa Oh, that's within my wheelhouse, but my thoughts were more about the drivers being available for it. I suppose they can be downloaded from Dell, but seems like cloning the existing drive would be much quicker.

The first thing before changing the ram and ssd is to disconnect the battery.

Yeah not really. I've done hundreds of SSD and RAM upgrades over 18 years. Never once disconnected the battery and never once had an issue.

Good evening. If the computer is in a sleep state the smbus chips on the ram are still powered and thus you mai damage the controller or them in the best case. Some people do not wait for complete shutdown and close the lid. If it s set to sleep then yeah. Cheers

I don't need to unscrew the battery - just disconnect the power cable to the motherboard. The purpose of batteries is to supply power to the motherboard all the time - even without A/C power connected! I also don't recommend doing computer repairs in a full bathtub, even though having a few toasters in the tub might serve as a work-shelf.

13:05 you never adress the fact that the computer doesn't register the other 8gb SODIMM RAM stick, why doesn't it register?

Also, I'm assuming you had Windows installed on the 1TB drive you installed, or at least transferred over the OS to the new harddrive before installing it. Simply installing a blank drive won't automatically give you an OS.

The 2nd-digit is an abbrevation for Screen Size... "x5xx" means "15 inch"... "5440" means "14 inch", 5660 means "16 inch", etc.
@akin242002

It rotates every 10 years. The old 5440 is listed as e5440. The 2023 5440 has the intel 13th gen CPUs.

The 5540 is a 15.6in. screen, 5440 is a 14in. screen other than that they are the same. There was an older series the E5440 to E5470 then the "E" was dropped for the 5480, 5490 then went to 5400,5410 etc. These model numbers followed the latitude 3000 and 7000 series also.

I've had other units that have the Ethernet Controller driver installed with Win11. Isn't that odd - was Dell/Win saying "Ethernet?!! No one uses THAT!!" Yeah... riiiight. As for your small 2230 SSD, I prefer the Orico external drive-cases. They are usually accepting of even 2288's, but I can use my drawer full of 2230s as Pretty Fast, Pretty High Capacity USB thumb drives. Thanks for your personalization tips. I only seek out and promulgate 2-drive laptops - two NVMe slots. That WWAN card might be an old M-SATA connector and, if so, it might be BOOTABL!!! Check the BIOS to see if there is a 'bootable' option on the WWAN slot. If so, that's my precious "D:Drive!!" Or even C:Drive and use the new 2/4tb 2230 as my data drive.

Nice review, i wish i saw it before i bought the thing. The SSD 2230 format is extremely pointless and annoying. Ive also tried upgrading the RAM with very common Kingston branded memory kit which the laptop just wont accept. Overall im not impressed by this laptop, its objectivelly worse than the old Latitude 5490 which this one is supposed to replace.

Honestly the biggest drawback on Dells are the moste cases the really bad screen. 300Nits and FHD is simply so last gen that I wouldn't consider to buy it. And the Keyboard and trackpads also an the budget size (not to say they sucks) My advice: - Use Screens with 2.5k+ - Absolute minimum 400 Nits (better 500+) - 90Hz+ Screen - On intel - you want a dedicated GPU - Use Notebooks with a metal case (plastic is aging fast) - Use a AMD CPU (Intel has currently unsolved issues on 13th and 14th gen) - Look that your Notebook has a proper Keyboard and Trackpad (Glas Trackpads are the best) - Memory - today for Windows get 32GByte (The price difference is so low that it makes no sense. Also most 16GByte Notebooks comes these days with one Module soldered in. And a computer runs slower when you have 8GByte and 32Gbyte DRAM modules. And in the end - Dell in most cases not the best option to buy this for private live. And Touchscreen - I never got any use out of it. And when you want a Notebook with all of these features above, may a MacBook is a valid option.
