How was your experience purchasing from DELL? Would love to hear you thoughts in the comments below.

Thank you for the video. You are a 100% right with the migrate tool. I was very disapointed that migrate did not do what I expected, and paid for. Sales service was stellar as you said all my questions were answered and the purches process went extreamly smooth. I bought a AlienWare Aurora R10 Gaming desktop.

I bought a Dell computer last September the first month I had the computer it started freezing on me and crashing it was going on for a couple of months then finally somewhere around in December I called up Dell, and they started giving me the runaround they started doing a test on it and started finding out that the Dell computer was crashing and freezing up on me since I bought it in SEP , they saw it on my log on my computer , this Jan they said the update will be sooner than they change the date to Feb 4 of this year, they told me that they were having issues with the same model computer and that they were working on a new update that soon that I'll be able to download it to my computer it had something to do with the BIOS update after I had downloaded it I still got the same problems with the computer what can I do about it and how do I go about ,they have not yet resolving this issue I cannot even log on my computer sometimes , I'm getting the same run around from dell, and I don't wanna certainly be out $2000 I feel like they knew about the issue on this model , please help me what can I do I still have 7-month warranty and im still paying this off on my credit card

Thanks a lot Ron for warning us. At the moment we're in June 2023 and I met, more or less, the same problems as you. About Dell delivery service : I received my new laptop four days before the expected date and that was actually the day after I ordered it. I also understood the purpose of Dell Migrate was to migrate applications and, according to the video, that it was a free tool. I chated with a guy at the Dell Tech Support center and he ended with telling me that my problem was a software problem which needs an "in deep" software assistance at the cost of 60 € (65 $) ! I hope you feel a little less frustrated knowing that your experience helped some of us avoiding being cheated by Dell. Cheers mate and all the best.

Thanks for posting this. I have a new Dell PC shipping to me and thought I would be able to migrate everything. Now it looks like I will have to move everything manually. BTW- My daughter bought a new Mac laptop last year and had the same experience...quick, seamless and painless. Now I understand why people buy Macs. I used to work for a company that made Dell motherboards for their laptops and they were highly regarded, but that was years ago.

If you were in IT and seriously knew what you were doing, you'd be recommending to everyone NOT to migrate your OS system to your new laptop! Infact, I would recommend doing a fresh install of your OS and all drivers and apps on your new laptop! Yes, it's definitely tedious but WORTH IT!! The only time it's a good idea to "migrate" your OS is to a new storage drive you have purchased that you intend to install as your new OS drive on your system.
@ccjmusic Жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you. Part of the reason for buying a new PC could well be to do with degraded performance of the existing PC, this could easily be caused by corrupt files etc and cloning the old PC to the new will just give the new PC the same problem. Users have a choice, convenience or performance. I’ve known a few people complain that their brand new computer is barely faster than the old one. Maybe it is because of all the baggage they copied over.
@avflyguy5 ай бұрын
I have to agree with that. The *only* time I would clone a drive is on a Mac. I have had excellent results with a program called SuperDuper for mac. (that's assuming the mac isn't corrupted, which they generally are not. I simply don't know how DELL can continue ripping folks for $50. My newest Dell XPS is going to be a bear to replace programs and drivers as my old XPS was more than 12 years old. Crash after crash after crash. I get "Status Breakpoint" and BSOD multiple times in just a few hours.

Thank you for this important product review and for everyone else who is sharing the same experiences in the comments. I was just about to purchase the DELL Migrate tool this morning, that was a close one! We can land probes on Mars but we still have to manually transfer data from an older laptop to a new laptop? I'm surprised my new XPS 9530 has a start button and not a hang crank starter.

I wish I had known this a month ago before I purchased my new laptop and the Migrate assist. I just worked for the last 24 hrs trying to migrate my info to my brand new xps... and it doesn't work as I believed. AGHHHH! I should have bought an apple. I am now working on doing the migration piece by piece. This sucks.

My sister purchased a new Dell desktop for my dad. His current Dell is 10 years old. I get to migrate his computer today. Thank you for the information, yes, they promised the computer Friday and it was delayed till yesterday, Tuesday. Not holding out much hope for an easy transfer. Dell needs to get its Ish together. P.S. got my first Mac in 1987. Apple 🍎 rules.

I'm having the same issue and I'm not a computer whiz that you are, so I'm beyond frustrating. So I got ripped off for $49 also. Thanks for the video & info. I ended up copying to a usb and transferring to my new Dell that way, after days of stress.

I don't want to come across as defending DELL, cause I really don't care if you like them or not. However what part of "Move your important documents, pictures, videos and personal settings from your old PCs to your new Dell PC running Windows Home OS." would give you the impression that it is going to install & correctly configure all your 3rd party applications? Given you may have better graphics capability, different screen res etc, You'd think the opportunity to tweak those install settings would get you a better experience. Especially for games.

as of 9/23 DELL does say that the C:\Program Files,etc will nor xfer. Nowadays reinstalls are almost always required. Windows 3.1 let you straight copy!

Thanks. Clearly stated and informed review. The imaging and technical knowledge required to clone and transfer your files is daunting. Dell does sell imaging management software (Image Assist) aimed at professional IT solution providers but should make a simpler automated product aimed at home users, as do Apple.

I wish I had found your video BEFORE just buying a new Dell laptop. As you've noted, Dell does not disclose that the Migrate tool EXCLUDES applications. It is buried in their Knowledge Base article 125902, which no ordinary consumer would go looking for before making the purchase. If I were an attorney, I think this would be an excellent case for a class-action lawsuit. If such an attorney reads this comment, I'd be happy to join your case! Of course, only the attorneys make much money on such lawsuits, but at least it would highlight the problem for everyone else. P.S. I'm hoping Laplink still migrates apps as well as data; I've used it successfully several times in the past.

Is it worth it to pay 49$ to buy it ?, or better do the transfer manually, or using an other pc transfer tool ?
@RGMGFitness2 жыл бұрын
Feel like it 'deceptive' in the way Dell was marketing this service. That being said, feel like there are better tools out there to transfer ALL information to a new PC. Dell's tool just doesn't do everything that I wanted (or expected). Again, because I am comparing it directly to what Apple (MAC IOS) is doing. Not sure if that helps...
@schmave490911 ай бұрын
I call it "dell Migraine." This has been a tortured experience and we're still in the middle of it. Among other things (a) it's weirdly hard to buy if you don't buy it with the computer - we ended up calling because it was so hard to buy online - that should not happen and then they told us it could take 72 hours to download; (b) There is a glitch so that if you have multiple users it's a very tough product to get right. All users have to be set as administrators (I never knew you could do have multiple administrators), and even then it's taking forever with the help of a very nice Dell support person. It would have been much, much faster to just copy everything to a stick (or even multiple sticks) and just copy over. DELL SHOULD NOT SELL THIS PRODUCT UNTIL IT IS PERFECTED.

Thanks. Your video made me suspicious, so I decided to call Dell to make sure Migrate would work for my use-case. It turns out the tool won't work for me. Despite an article on Dell's site indicating the tool would work to migrate from a Windows 7 (Dell), the tech I spoke with assured me it would not. He explained it away by saying the article was 'probably old.' Glad I didn't waste 50 bucks.

Given what Dell Migrate does, should I set up my apps manually on the new PC and then do the migrate? Or do the migrate first?
@ninos73294 ай бұрын
As much as i dont like dell pcs, products but data Migration has nothing to do with them. Mac OS is a locked system where apps do not interact with the system. program files/folders are stored separately from the system thats why its alot easier. However, Windows works in a completely different way where program files are installed all over system folders. Copying "program folder" will cause a problem launching the program since registry files would be missing, and program files stored in system32(system folder) would be missing aswell Hard drive mirror isnt as easy as people think, especially if youre on different versions of windows. 99% of the time it causes BIOS issues where you spend hours looking at forums and methods on why is bootup so slow or why the BIOS isnt detecting the installed Windows.
@rmo9808 Жыл бұрын
I think the problem is how Microsoft has setup windows. They really don't want people to easily image an entire system and deploying it across multiple computers and pulling a restore image from one system and trying to deploy it on another is a crap shoot. The hardware changes always cause problems. License types can be an issue as well. It sounds like Dell is using Migrate as a share to transfer files which is a bad joke if it's $49. There's a few free things to clone/image drives but your mileage may very as to how user friendly they are.

I saw that there are a handful of third party apps out there that claim to do what we expected Dell Migrator to do. Did anyone try any of these out?
@RGMGFitness2 жыл бұрын
Yes, agree. There are some 3rd party APPS out there. Personally, I've not tried them (perhaps others have). The main point I was trying to get across was that Dell was being misleading / deceptive with the tool they were offering. But, yes.....def. some other software out there. I've just not tried myself.

Found this video way too late :( Just setup my new alienware and was looking forward to the easy transition. The Migrate Tool is hot garbage and useless. They are now using India support who are only trying to get you to upgrade your order and nothing else. Years ago Dell customer service was stellar as they were in the USA.
@RGMGFitness2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm hoping they see videos like this and make some improvements. But I'm not holding my breath at this point. Lately, I just wait until companies like DELL to send me they're surveys (they all do it now). And that's where I think it has the most impact. Those consumer survey's seem to illicit more of a response then anything (at least in my experience). Can't tell you how many times I received a follow-up call from larger companies when I've filled out a not so positive survey for them.
@yaswanthsai46822 жыл бұрын
If it was so stellar, why do you think it got moved to India? Something doesn't seem right here..
@supratimnag84972 жыл бұрын
You are really oblivious and very much wrong about this. Firstly, a company like Dell has different departments and the tech support team does not pitch warranty upgrades, or order upgrades to the customers. Also, technicians in US are not skilled enough, for which Dell tech support technicians are Indians. Ciao!
@yaswanthsai46822 жыл бұрын
And for the person who made this video, the tool you're showing in your video is SupportAssist, not Data Assist. And since your old machine is also Windows, you must be atleast aware that there is no software that can move entire program along with it's settings to another WINDOWS computer. (Unless that program has a built in functionality of syncing the settings.)
@RGMGFitness2 жыл бұрын
@@yaswanthsai4682 for the person who wrote this. Click here: 3:50. “Dell Data Assistant”. However you missed the point of this video. Dell is misrepresenting their own tool and what it can or can not do. That was the point…it’s misleading and dishonest…that’s the bottom line.

I received a new Dell Inspiron and paid the $49 for Dell Migrate. It DOES NOT WORK from an HP laptop. Despite having Windows 11 on the Dell and Windows 10 on the HP, being on the same wi-fi network, etc. it hangs up on their handshaking routine for hours and days Checking Prerequisites. Opening a service ticket gave me Khaleelahmed in Bangalore who accessed both machines remotely and finally said he was escalating my ticket, and I would get a call within 24 to 48 hours. I have not received a call; this is now FIVE DAYS LATER. Seeking help online from Dell has gotten me some person in Social Media who cannot give me any tech assistance. I have yet to connect with anyone anywhere anywhen that can help me move my files from my old HP to my new Dell. Should I just return the damn Dell and tell the world how crappy their service and support and migration tool is?
@RGMGFitness Жыл бұрын
If your not getting the Dell Support you need....ABSOLUTELY! RETURN IT and get something else. There is a window of free returns on their laptop...I don't know all the details of returning but I've found dealing with customer service or support gets nowhere and the only thing the EXEC's at these companies actually look at are the "SURVEYS". Oh, and DELL will be sending you a survey....fill it out! I work for a big company myself and it's unfortunate, but seems to be the only thing that gets their attention. Sorry your having problems.....
